Chapter 63
William picked up his phone from the bedside table and answered it on speaker.
"Hello, who's this?"
A voice came through the phone.
"Is this Mr. Morgan? I'm a reporter from Funplus Media. Your friend Daniel injured one of our colleagues, and he told me to call you to handle this."
After a long silence with no response, the voice asked again,
"Hello? Are you there? You need to come deal with this quickly, or we're calling the police.
You must come handle this within an hour!"
William was about to hang up when he heard it was a reporter, but hearing Daniel's name made him listen a bit longer. Then that idiot had the nerve to threaten him with such an attitude - truly clueless.
"If he hit you guys, you deserved it. Look at yourselves first!"
The person on the other end was taken aback. "Well then, Mr. Morgan, you're busy, so I'll just go call the police."
"Go ahead!"
William was a total devil. He tossed his phone aside and went back to what he was doing.
He couldn't care less about that little interruption.
Calling the police didn't scare him - worst case, his buddy would have to suffer a bit.
Emerald City International Auction Center.
On the top floor, a dozen entertainment reporters with cameras were crowded at a room door, all waiting to get the first shots. They'd somehow gotten word that popular celebrity Grace Thompson and Daniel Wilson were spending the night together here. They'd been waiting all night and refused to believe the two inside wouldn't come out.
The clicking of high heels approached from a distance.
Everyone's attention was drawn over.
The leader of the reporters was a man with green-dyed hair. Seeing who was approaching, he rushed over.
"Ms. Morgan, we can't get any shots with the door closed. Do you have any way to get them to come out?
At least show their faces?"
Emily's mouth twitched with a somewhat disgusted expression.
"After all this time, you still haven't gotten anything? If I'd known you were this useless, I would've given this tip to someone else."
"No, no, Emily, we've been waiting here for seven or eight hours. Shortly before you came, Mr. Wilson came out once, smashed a camera, and injured one of our colleagues. We got the fight on camera, let me show you."
The man was about to open his device when Emily said with contempt,
"Idiot, what's the point of filming Daniel? You're supposed to film the woman sleeping with him."
The man instantly deflated. "But Mr. Wilson's protecting her well - the person inside hasn't shown her face. We're all trying to figure out how to force Grace out."
If they could get this exclusive, their performance this month would be set, plus they'd earn a big bonus.
Emily paused. She naturally knew the person inside wasn't Grace but the person she wanted to set up. She wouldn't tell the truth - otherwise these lackeys wouldn't work so hard for her.
"Wait a moment."
Emily walked to the stairwell to make a call. Today, she was going to make William break up with Ava in front of these people.
She didn't want that angelic bitch as her sister-in-law - she wanted her best friend to marry into the Morgan Family!
William was a germaphobe. If he saw his wife betray him, he'd definitely kick that woman out.
At that moment, William was leaning against the headboard, smoking, looking completely satisfied.
The sound of running water from the bathroom made him quite pleased with his performance.
The phone rang. In a good mood, his voice was gentle as he answered.
"Emily, what's up?"
Whatever was said on the other end made his expression change dramatically.
Ava came out, drying her hair, bringing moisture with her.
"Ava, get dressed and come out with me."
After what he'd put her through, Ava's whole body ached. She just wanted to lie down and catch up on sleep.
"Are you going back to the master bedroom, or am I?"
She meant they should still sleep in separate rooms. If he insisted on taking the guest room, she'd go back to the master bedroom.
William rubbed his forehead. This woman gave him such a headache.
"Did I not satisfy you or what?"
She was only obedient in bed for a while, then could say such heartless things once dressed.
Ava's ears turned red. She went to the balcony to open the window - the air was full of his secondhand smoke.
"You affect my sleep quality when you're next to me."
William stubbed out his cigarette. "You slept just fine last night, kept burrowing into my arms, wouldn't wake up no matter how much I called you, and your hands were all over me. Who's really losing out when we sleep together?"
Ava paused while drying her hair, feeling somewhat amused. She didn't know where he learned to be such a shameless person, turning black into white.
Who was losing out?
As if she wanted to take advantage of him.
"Get dressed and come out with me."
William urged again.
Ava could tell he really had something going on.
"Why are you taking me out? Aren't you afraid of people finding out about us?"
She took out a hairdryer and slowly dried her hair, with no intention of going out with him. Not letting her sleep in on a weekend was bad enough; now he wanted to drag her out - ridiculous.
Halfway through drying her hair, William had already changed into a gray suit that made him look somewhat gentler.
Ava glanced at him, and as William walked toward her, she quickly turned her head away like a thief.
"If you want to look at me, just look. No need to hide it."
Ava thought to herself that he was quite full of himself.
The hairdryer was taken from her hand. She froze and turned around. William held the hairdryer in one hand while running his other hand through her hair.
The blushing scenes from this morning suddenly flooded back, and Ava's face turned red.
Warm air covered her head, with hair tips occasionally falling on her neck, tickling. Ava felt like they looked like a loving couple right now.
This was William's first time drying a woman's hair, so he wasn't very efficient. Several minutes passed, and the roots still weren't completely dry.
Ava took the hairdryer back from him.
"I'll do it myself."
He kept blowing hard on one spot - she felt like that patch of scalp was getting burned while other areas weren't getting dried at all.
William reluctantly gave back the hairdryer, getting rejected the first time he took the initiative to help.
Women were so troublesome.
"Want me to help you get dressed too?"
