Chapter 62

Chapter 62

Lily was half asleep when she checked her phone and saw it was almost 1 AM. About five minutes later, Lily brought the key upstairs and handed it to William. She glanced toward the guest bedroom and couldn't help but offer some advice.

"Mr. Morgan, Mrs. Ava Morgan is actually easy to please. Women are sensitive to words. Just sweet-talk her a bit, and you two should stop fighting."

Howard was desperate to hold his great-grandchild and called every single day without fail to ask about it. She couldn't help at all with the couple sleeping in separate beds. Both of them had strong opinions, and she didn't dare say too much—saying too much would just annoy them.

William took the key and nodded. "Sorry to bother you, Lily. Go get some rest."

Lily quickly went downstairs, afraid of delaying the couple's reconciliation.

William inserted the key into the lock and turned it. The lock opened easily.

The sweet fragrance that hit him as he entered stirred a restless feeling inside him.

She had used sleep aromatherapy.

He walked to the bed, observing her in the night like this for who knows how many times. Her makeup was completely removed, her fair little face so tender it seemed to drip with moisture. Her mouth was slightly open, her breath hitting his face directly.

"Ava."

He called out once, but she continued sleeping sweetly.

He lifted a corner of the blanket and lay down gently beside her, pulling her into his arms.

Ava turned over, her fluffy head burrowing into his chest. Her restless little hand also found its familiar way into his robe.

In deep sleep, her guard was almost down to zero.

"William, you want to divorce me for Sarah. I'm really so sad."

William's body stiffened. "Ava, I tore up the divorce papers."

He couldn't promise her he'd completely stop seeing or contacting Sarah. As he tried to explain more, he felt his chest getting wet. His thumb gently slid across her smooth, egg-shaped face and discovered it was covered in tears.

"If you don't want to divorce, why did you sign the divorce papers so readily?"

He still felt a bit angry thinking about it. This woman appeared weak and easy to bully on the surface, but actually had a very strong mind. When he mentioned divorce, she really started slowly distancing herself from him.

He was the one who brought up divorce, and he never dreamed he'd be the first one who couldn't stand it.

"Ava?"

After a long time without getting a response from her, he called out again. Then he heard her say,

"Joseph, where exactly are you?"

William felt his breath catch. He propped himself up and looked at her face, only then realizing she had been talking in her sleep.

He couldn't help but clench his fist.

Joseph, Joseph, always Joseph.

Her dreams were always only about Joseph. The few times she dreamed of him, they were all bad dreams.

At this moment, William wanted to push her away, but seeing that small bundle, he held her even tighter. She always had dreams, and every time she talked in her sleep, she would curl up into a ball, like a cat without any sense of security.

Soft and fragrant in his arms, after holding her for a while, he felt his body reacting.

He resisted the urge to wake her up and moved his hand away from his lower abdomen. If he left it there, he really couldn't guarantee what would happen.

This was the first time he slept in the same bed with her with such restraint—he couldn't believe what he was restraining himself from. The woman in his arms was his legal wife; what was there for him to restrain?

That whole night, he barely fell asleep until dawn broke.

Ava was woken up by a phone call.

Her phone had just started ringing, and she hadn't had time to answer when William's phone also started ringing.

Ava looked at the person in front of her with complete surprise.

She remembered locking the door before going to sleep, and he really had gotten a key to come in.

As he said, one door couldn't stop him, as long as he wanted.

She was still in shock from waking up to find a man lying beside her, her mind fuzzy and stiff. The call was from Lucas, and calling this early must mean he had something urgent.

Almost simultaneously, William and she answered their phones.

Lucas said, "Ava, who gave you that glass of juice at your table yesterday?"

Ava had just woken up, and her mind was still a bit foggy. She made an acknowledging sound, and the person on the other end didn't wait for her to ask before saying directly,

"I fucking drank your juice yesterday and something happened. I slept with a man."

Ava's mind immediately cleared up halfway. "You sleeping with a man is normal."

It would be surprising if he slept with a woman.

The other end paused for a few seconds, his voice heavy. "You know the person."

Ava fell silent, unable to guess who he slept with. Thinking back to yesterday, that glass of juice was brought by Emily. She never drank anything given by people she didn't trust at those kinds of events.

She hadn't noticed that Lucas had drunk it, and something really happened.

Thinking of this, Ava felt a chill down her spine.

At this moment, Lucas was yelling at someone on the other end of the phone, with the irritability of just waking up,

"It's such a small matter, what kind of man cries like this?"

Then he hung up with a snap.

William had no sympathy for what happened to the person on the phone. Instead, he was more interested in the woman in front of him.

"Ava, come here."

He reached out with his long arm and pulled her into his embrace, not giving Ava any time to react, his voice carrying the laziness of just waking up. After completing this set of actions, he even had a hand free to ruthlessly hang up Ava's half-finished call.

"Ava, pay attention to your man first."

He took her hand and placed it on his burning lower body.

That fire had been burning all night.

Ava pulled away as if electrocuted, then was forcibly pulled back by him again.

"Ava, count the days—how long has it been since we did it? Don't you miss it?"

As he spoke, he turned over and pressed her beneath him, looking at her with affectionate eyes, his gaze as if it could bore a hole through her.

Ava was wearing a tie-front nightgown, quite modest. At this moment, she was afraid of him and unconsciously tightened her collar.

These small movements, in William's eyes, were pure provocation.

If she wanted to tighten it, he would loosen it.

After several rounds of this, he simply untied the thin belt at her waist. The two sides of the garment were successfully separated by him and pushed to the sides, leaving only an enchanting view before his eyes.

William stared blankly for a few seconds, his breathing becoming irregular.

"Ava, I think you've gained a bit of weight."

Ava's heart was about to jump out of her throat. "Where, where?"

William remained silent for a long while without saying where.

Ava's mind cleared up a bit. She stubbornly turned her head to the side, only to have him forcefully turn it back.

"Ava, don't ride in Michael's car, and don't smile at him either. Your man is right here!"

In her daze, she smiled slightly. This man was bringing up old grievances.

Not hearing a definite answer, William asked again, "Did you hear me?"
