Chapter 186
"Mr. Morgan, the specialist is here."
The specialist was a female doctor in her fifties. After brief introductions, the group entered the elevator.
James led the way. As they approached Sarah's room, crying and screaming came from inside.
Everyone paused and exchanged glances for a few seconds.
William walked forward and pushed the door open to see Sarah awake, sitting at the head of the bed with disheveled hair. She clutched a corner of the blanket tightly with both hands, her gaze was void.
Seeing people at the door, she showed an expression of extreme terror.
"Don't come near me, don't come near me, I didn't harm you, go find someone else..."
She was saying the same nonsense as Nola had that day.
Steven cried with tears streaming down his face.
"Sarah, how did you become as abnormal like your mother after just one sleep? Don't scare me!"
Seeing the situation was bad, the hospital director asked William for instructions.
"Mr. Morgan, should we call in a neurologist for consultation?"
William nodded.
"Go quickly!"
He walked into the room, looking at Sarah's terrified eyes, trying to bring her back to her senses.
"Sarah, it's me!"
Sarah didn't even look at him, as she shouted.
"Don't come near, don't come near. My baby's father is the president of the Morgan Group. He'll give you however much money you want, just don't hurt the baby in my belly."
William's mood sank to rock bottom once again. He had thought that finding a specialist this time would completely cure Sarah's illness, and he would have repaid what he owed her. As for the child, once born, he would raise his kid well and give Sarah a large sum of money.
Now it seemed difficult.
Besides her heart condition, she had developed a new problem.
Soon, the director arrived with a psychiatrist.
Everyone made way at the door. The doctor came in and examined Sarah.
"Mr. Morgan, the current diagnosis is that Miss Brown has schizophrenia. She'll have good and bad episodes. As for when she'll have a breakdown, it's probably when she encounters something unpleasant that stimulates her. After that period passes, she'll be like a normal person again."
William understood—basically, selective insanity.
"Can it be controlled?"
The doctor shook his head regretfully.
"Mr. Morgan, this illness is quite difficult to treat. We have such cases clinically. Some patients live with this condition their entire lives. Of course, with active treatment, the possibility of recovery is also quite high. As for the recovery time, no one can say for sure, since it's a mental problem."
William felt like he couldn't see the end of these days. Heart disease, now add schizophrenia and intermittent insanity. He felt like he was going to be held hostage by her for life.
He turned to ask the heart specialist they had brought in.
"Can we examine her now?"
The specialist raised her eyebrows and shook her head.
"No, we need to wait until she calms down!"
Sarah continued her breakdown. When her eyes fell on the Lumarian specialist, she became even more frantic. She spewed more nonsense , she even backed away repeatedly. She looked very frightened, as if she had seen a ghost.
Seeing her expression, the psychiatrist immediately shooed away the people at the door.
"The patient is quite frightened now. Everyone should stop crowding around her—it's bad for her condition."
Following the doctor's words, everyone retreated outside the room, out of Sarah's sight.
The specialist had made a wasted trip. William instructed James to escort her back safely.
The psychiatrist used professional techniques to calm the frantic Sarah. Before long, she quieted down.
When William returned, she was lying down quietly, even looking at her phone.
Seeing William return alone without bringing a bunch of random people, Sarah relaxed. She put down her phone and slowly sat up.
"William, I had a bad dream. I dreamed that we both fell into the ocean. The waves were so fierce. No matter how hard I swam, I couldn't move, and I couldn't bring you to shore either."
William was afraid of water. Hearing her description, his body involuntarily tensed up.
"William, you said you'd come marry me once I turned twenty, the legal marriage age, right?"
Sarah counted on her fingers and continued.
"I'm nineteen now. In half a month, it'll be my birthday, and I'll be twenty. Can we get our marriage certificate on my birthday?"
Her eyes sparkled like stars, looking at him with anticipation all over her face.
William's heart ached. He guessed she had returned to when she was nineteen. And he had indeed said those words, promising he would marry her.
If Ava hadn't appeared, he probably would have married her.
But now, he was already married and had a baby with Ava. He could no longer keep that promise.
"Sarah, you're twenty-three now."
Sarah's smile froze on her face.
"William, do you have a fever? What are you talking about?"
As she spoke, Sarah pressed her hand to his forehead to check his temperature, then touched her own forehead to compare, finally concluding.
"No fever. William, why don't we buy the ring in advance? Otherwise, there won't be time. There's only half a month left, and you haven't even proposed to me yet. Oh, and we haven't taken wedding photos either. You said you'd give me a grand wedding—don't lie to me!"
William licked his dry lips. Facing the innocent, nineteen-year-old Sarah, he didn't know what to say. At that age, she never used death threats to blackmail him. Just like now, she was just a simple girl without much scheming.
The psychiatrist was still standing in the room.
"Mr. Morgan, she can't be stimulated again. I'm worried she'll go completely insane with no possibility of recovery. Then she'd be crazy for life, and eventually might not even know who she is. Whatever she asks for, it's best to accommodate her as much as possible."
As soon as the doctor spoke, Steven fell to his knees in front of William.
"Mr. Morgan, please don't stimulate her anymore. Please cure her. I'd give up this old life of mine to cure my daughter first!"
William had never felt as desperate as he did at this moment in his entire life.
His hands hung down, clenched into tight fists, veins bulging on his arms. He even thought that if it were possible, he would take on her illness himself. That way, they could be even.
After leaving the examination room, he stood in the endless night for a long time, so long that he finished all the alcohol stored in the trunk, yet he still had no idea what to do about Sarah. This was the biggest problem he had ever encountered in his life.
He owed her a life. Later, he took her virginity while drunk and got her pregnant. If she went insane, too, he couldn't just ignore it and let her fend for herself.
His conscience wouldn't allow it.
James had never seen William so mentally exhausted, numbing himself with alcohol.
"Mr. Morgan, should I take you home first?"
William sat in the back seat without speaking. After a long while, he told James.
"Go to Ava's place."
