Chapter 185
Across from the window, Robert looked displeased.
"Didn't I tell security not to let William in? How did he get in anyway?"
The assistant looked aggrieved.
"Mr. Davis, that cunning guy bought a house in this community and became a resident. Security has no reason to keep a resident out."
Robert stubbed out his cigarette and tossed it in the trash.
"What about those two women?"
The assistant replied, "They've gone crazy."
"I need to go back to Harmony City for a few days. You stay here and keep watch, and make sure Ava stays safe."
"Okay, Mr. Davis."
......
At dinner time, William had nutritious meals delivered.
Lately, Ava had been cooking simple dishes for herself. With her gloomy mood, she hadn't had much appetite either. It had been a long time since she'd eaten such a feast.
Looking at the table full of delicious food, Ava thought it was quite wasteful , surely two people couldn't eat all this.
William put on his disposable gloves and peeled shrimp for her.. He peeled one, she ate one, without touching her utensils to eat other dishes.
He was a total straight guy who normally wouldn't take care of anyone. For the past three years, she had been the one peeling shrimp for him to eat. Now their roles were reversed. Ava watched him with his eyes lowered, sunlight falling on his face, making him seem much gentler than he usually was.
This kind of brief, tender moment together hadn't happened in these three years. Ava stared, lost in thought for a moment.
Soon, a small mountain of shrimp shells piled up in front of William. After peeling the last one, he looked up and met her gaze.
"You're only eating this" he asked.
Ava paused. She definitely didn't want to say that she just purely wanted to watch him peel shrimp for her.
"I'm almost full."
She ate the green vegetables nearby to change the subject.
After the meal, William put on his clothes to go out. Before leaving, he explained his plans.
"I'm going to the hospital."
Ava's face was expressionless. Go wherever you want to go to, just don't bother me, she thought to herself.
She had to teach kids in the evening and finish her design work. She'd been slacking for several days and needed to catch up.
At the hospital ward, Howard was overjoyed, in exceptionally high spirits, and being helped by Jeremy to walk around.
Jeremy said happily,
"Mr. Howard Morgan, you haven't been this happy in a long time."
Howard couldn't wipe the smile off his face.
"Well, good news brings good spirits! I feel like I could be discharged right now. Jeremy, do you think my great-grandchild will be a boy or a girl?"
Jeremy chuckled.
"Boy or girl, either is great. With Mr. William Morgan and Mrs. Ava Morgan's looks, the kid's IQ and EQ will be off the charts. When we bring them back, the Morgan Mansion will really liven up."
Howard was thrilled at the thought. Imagining of a little one following him around, calling him great-grandpa, made his heart melt .
William walked in just in timeto see the scenery. Howard's expression was happier than when he'd closed multi-million dollar deals running the company.
With a great-grandchild on the way, William benefited from Howard's good mood and became slightly more pleasing in his eyes. This time, seeing him, Howard's first reaction wasn't to blow up.
"Grandpa, I asked the doctor. It's confirmed that Ava is pregnant."
He came to report the results. Howard snorted.
"You think I need you to tell me? You're the first husband I've seen who's this slow. Your wife's belly is already showing, and you still don't know. I don't know what Ava saw in you. Idiot! When's the due date?"
This stumped William. He really didn't know.
Seeing his awkward expression, Howard guessed this guy definitely didn't know. He had no idea how William ran a company , probably his brain only had room for business.
He was clueless about the little details that come with dealing with women.
Howard said with disdain,
"Fine, go back and ask Ava when the due date is so we can prepare in advance and book Emerald City's best obstetrician to deliver the baby.
That apartment of yours looks a bit small. After the baby's born, move into the one I bought for Ava. Don't upset her lately, or I have plenty of ways to deal with you."
William rubbed his forehead. Howard didn't give him any face in front of Jeremy, still scolding him like when he was a child.
He nodded, "Got it."
Now, whenever Ava was unhappy, he'd have a bad time.
After seeing Howard, William called James.
"Bring the specialist over. We'll examine Sarah in a bit."
Mentioning Sarah, William's mood instantly grew heavy. He reluctantly dragged his feet toward Sarah's ward.
In the ward, Sarah was sleeping soundly.
Nola had been transferred to another room, and the room was now quiet.
Steven sat on the bench outside the ward door. Seeing William approach, he quickly stood up.
"Mr. Morgan, you're here?"
William nodded slightly, his gaze returning to the room.
"Why is she sleeping at this hour?"
Steven sighed.
"Well, pregnant women sleep more than usual. She's been tired these past few days, so let her sleep."
William hummed in acknowledgment.
"Wake her up in ten minutes. The specialist is on the way and will examine her soon."
Hearing this, Steven instantly tensed up, his eyes wide, not knowing where to look. His hands unconsciously clasped together and rubbed, all sweaty.
"You stay here and watch. Remember to wake her. I'm going to talk to the director."
Steven muttered a reluctant acknowledgment twice, his eyes fixed on William's retreating figure until it vanished down the corridor. A chill of fear ran through him, and he hurried into the ward, gently shaking Sarah awake.
"Stop sleeping, Sarah. We've got trouble!"
Sarah was groggy from sleep, her sweet dream interrupted.
"Dad, don't bother me. Let me sleep a bit more."
Steven was now panicking.
"Wake up now! William's bringing a specialist."
Hearing that a specialist was coming, Sarah bolted upright in bed, her brain quickly catching up. She smoothed her messy hair.
"Dad, what do we do? Should I run away?"
Steven paced the floor anxiously.
"Sarah, what's in that head of yours? Forget about whether you can escape under William's nose - even if you did escape, you think he won't catch you and bring you back? You don't want to be Mrs. Morgan anymore?"
Sarah was nearly in tears.
"Dad, then what should I do?"
She'd just woken up to this explosive news. Her mind was a complete mess, unable to think straight. She only remembered one thing , if her fake illness to trick William was exposed, she'd be completely done for.
This absolutely couldn't be discovered by him.
Steven stopped pacing.
"Do you remember what I told you last time?"
Sarah wiped her tears.
"Dad, which thing did you say?"
Steven glared at her with frustration.
On the other side, James led several bodyguards escorting the specialist down from the car, heading straight to the inpatient building.
William and the director had been talking for a while and were standing downstairs waiting for the specialist.
