Chapter 135
Ava smiled,
"How could I be hiding him? You should be able to find him if you give him a call."
Daniel waved his phone,
"He hung up on me. That jerk only hangs up on people when he's in a bad mood. Did his business take a loss recently or something?"
Ava shrugged, "I have no idea."
Daniel put away his phone,
"Ava, you go ahead and enjoy yourself. I'm going to look for him."
Ava nodded, "Go ahead."
Ava grabbed some low-sugar fruit, and Evelyn came over to find her.
"Ava, what are you doing here? They're playing games over there, come on."
Evelyn enthusiastically pulled Ava toward the crowd. When everyone saw the boss's wife coming, they quickly made room in the middle.
The host saw Ava join and came over to give her a number card, reminding her,
"Don't lose it, we'll need it for the game later."
Emily was also in the crowd, with an uninterested Lewis standing beside her.
When Lewis saw Ava arrive, he left Emily behind and squeezed through the crowd,
"Ms. Davis, you're here too?"
Ava nodded and smiled back.
Lewis: "It's pretty boring here. Want to find a quiet place for a drink?"
Ava curved her lips, "Sorry, it's not convenient for me to drink alcohol."
Lewis didn't give up. "How about a soft drink instead?"
Ava looked troubled. She didn't dare drink soft drinks either - too much sugar. While she was thinking about how to refuse, Emily came over excitedly from the side, hooking one hand around Lewis's arm in a show of claiming her territory.
"Don't you have any manners? Don't you know he's my fiancé? Seducing him in front of all these people."
Lewis felt embarrassed and coldly pushed her hand away,
"Ms. Morgan, please have some self-respect. We should find time to talk to Howard and make things clear. We're not right for each other."
Emily was rejected in public, completely humiliated.
She had wanted to confront Ava, but never expected her fiancé wouldn't give her any face at all, embarrassing her in front of everyone. How could she face the Morgan Group employees in the future? How could she survive in that snobbish social circle?
"You, you jerk!"
She cursed angrily, tears instantly streaming down.
Lewis felt he'd gone too far. It was just that she'd been so rude, and he'd impulsively lost control and embarrassed her.
"Ms. Morgan, I'm sorry. Let's discuss our matters privately. I just wanted to chat with Mrs. Ava Morgan about something. Please stop saying things that lead to misunderstandings. Your family can't afford to lose face like this, and neither can I."
In other words, they were all respectable people, and saying such undignified things in this setting was really inappropriate.
Emily ran out crying.
Ava turned to ask Lewis,
"You wanted to see me about something?"
Lewis nodded, "Can we find somewhere convenient to talk? I won't make you drink."
Ava felt a bit awkward. If he'd just said he had business earlier, she wouldn't have racked her brain for excuses to refuse.
"Let's go then."
The two left the crowd and walked to the dessert area. Everyone was at the game area now, with talk of a mystery grand prize tonight, no one wanted to miss out. Who would come here for sweets when they were waiting to win the big prize?
With no one around, Lewis said quietly,
"Be careful of Sarah. I saw that woman carrying a packet of something on her. I don't think it's anything good. Be careful not to eat or drink anything people give you."
Ava's heart jumped. If Sarah was going to make a move, it would definitely be aimed at her. She was the only one on this boat who could make Sarah go this crazy.
She was a bit worried. She hadn't brought the two bodyguards Michael gave her on this trip - she had to rely entirely on being careful herself.
"Mr. Jones, thank you. But how do you know she's going to do something to me?"
Lewis knew but didn't say. He'd figured out William's mess last time they played golf. He used to really admire this old classmate - brilliant business mind, managed his company so well. He'd once used him as a role model to motivate himself.
Now that Lewis was seeing William's marriage in such a mess, his opinion had changed. He even looked down on William - just a jerk who didn't deserve his Ava.
"Anyway, just be careful."
The two chatted there for a while. Over at the game area, the host was shouting into a megaphone,
"Everyone, hold onto your numbers, don't lose them, don't trade with others. Now we're starting the game."
Lewis tilted his head toward that direction and asked, "Let's go join the fun."
The two returned to the crowd.
A computer program was running next to the host, with two rows of numbers scrolling rapidly on the screen. The host explained the game rules into the megaphone,
"Everyone, watch this computer in front of you. We'll randomly select one boy's number and one girl's number. The person with the higher number can ask the person with the lower number in their pair to do anything. Everyone selected will get a prize."
Everyone held up their number cards, hoping to win prizes.
The screen data scrolled, the host pressed pause, and the screen froze on boy number 98 and girl number 34. The two selected were pushed into the middle of the crowd by the group.
The boy was an employee from the tech department, quite shy. He gathered his courage and made a request,
"Can you help introduce me to someone? I don't know many girls."
The crowd stirred after he finished.
The girl nodded, "No problem, I'll definitely help with that."
Daniel and William had just come from the deck when they heard the game going on here.
He picked up his number card and looked at it - pink number 29, then grabbed William's card to look.
"Why is yours blue and mine pink?"
William's tense face finally relaxed a bit. He teased,
"Boys get blue, yours is... ask yourself."
Daniel scoffed and cursed,
"Who gave me this number? Don't let me catch them."
As the two were chatting, the host announced the newly selected numbers - boy number 51, girl number 29.
Daniel froze, looking at his number card from several angles, confirming his number had been selected.
What the hell!
When no girl responded after a while, the host raised the volume on the megaphone,
"All ladies present, please check your numbers. Pink number 29, please come forward to claim your prize. Don't miss this opportunity."
Daniel felt like he was holding a time bomb. This was pretty awkward, wasn't it?
Seeing him hesitate, William spoke up for him,
"Number 29 is here."
Countless eyes instantly focused over. Daniel cursed - that jerk had set up his own brother.
He walked forward, cursing under countless gazes. When he reached the crowd and saw who was standing on the prize platform, he completely lost it.
"What are you doing here?"
Lucas held up his number card and said calmly,
"I'm pretty lucky."
At this moment, the host spoke again,
"We've changed the rules for the second round. You two need to kiss."
