Chapter 43 Her Or Me
Chapter 43 Her Or Me
"I won't let you leave with her. You have to come home with me!"
Janna looked at Seraphina with red-rimmed eyes, her voice sharp and commanding.
Seraphina looked down at her, her eyes full of coldness.
"Why should I?"
"Because you're my mom!"
Now Janna admitted it without hesitation.
Seraphina let out a cold laugh. "Aren't I just your family's maid?"
As soon as she finished speaking, Janna's face turned pale.
Susan said weakly, "Seraphina, Janna is just a child. She speaks without thinking sometimes. As her mother, you don't need to hold such a small thing against her, do you?"
Seraphina gave her a cold glance and laughed mockingly. "My family matters—when is it your turn to butt in? Who do you think you are?"
Susan's eyes suddenly reddened. "Yes, I shouldn't interfere, but I just think that since you're Janna's mother..."
"Well, as a mother, I certainly don't need your advice. If you want a child, hurry up and have one with Michael. But since you have a terminal illness and are about to die, I don't mind letting Janna be your daughter to keep you company in your final days!"
With that, Seraphina glanced at Janna and moved to walk past her.
Janna wiped the tears from her face roughly. "Mom, today you can only choose one—me or Alicia. If you leave, I'll never call you my mom again!"
Seraphina didn't even hesitate as she brushed past her.
"That's great. I choose Alicia."
Soon Warren followed, and they left together.
Janna stood frozen in place, turning stiffly to watch Seraphina walk away with Alicia in her arms.
Alicia even looked back over her shoulder and made a face at her.
Janna's mind went blank, and her heart felt like it was about to split open with pain!
Was Seraphina really abandoning her?
But Seraphina had said she would love her forever.
She walked over to Michael feeling wronged, tears streaming down her face. "Dad, Mom really left. She's not coming back, is she?"
Susan pretended to comfort her. "How could that be, Janna? You're the one your mom loves most. She's just in a bad mood right now, so she's using them to upset you and your dad. She'll come back!"
Janna sniffled and blinked. "Really?"
Susan nodded, but then heard a low voice asking beside her.
"Susan, why didn't you explain right away that it wasn't Seraphina who pushed you?"
Susan's body stiffened. She secretly pinched her thigh, and tears instantly filled her eyes.
"You were already fighting, and I just wanted you to stop arguing. I forgot for a moment. I'm sorry, Michael. It's all my fault."
Janna also lowered her head guiltily. "It's my fault too."
Michael frowned slightly, feeling irritated.
Thinking about how Seraphina left with Warren without any hesitation made him feel an indescribable melancholy.
His chest felt tight and uncomfortable.
The ambulance arrived quickly.
Michael and Janna had lost interest in their outing and went along.
As Susan was wheeled into the operating room, the two sat outside waiting quietly.
Suddenly, Michael's phone rang.
He picked it up, glanced at it, and walked to a corner to answer.
"Erica, what's up?"
On the other end was Michael's sister Erica Talbot. She had been abroad recently and just got back today, completely unaware of everything that had happened at home.
"Michael, hasn't Seraphina come to the estate these past few days?" Erica frowned and asked with dissatisfaction.
Michael was puzzled. "What does she need to do at the estate?"
"What else could it be? Have you forgotten that Mom's stomach has always been bad? When it hurts, she can't eat anything, and so many doctors couldn't help!"
"Ever since Seraphina married into our family, she brought Mom some kind of capsules. After Mom took the medicine, her stomach stopped hurting. She's even gained quite a bit of weight these past two years. But now the medicine's run out and her stomach is hurting again. Today it hurt so bad she was rolling on the floor. Get her to bring the medicine over quickly!"
Erica got more and more worked up as she spoke, her voice becoming shrill.
"Usually whenever the medicine was running low, she'd bring more in advance. But Mom told me the medicine ran out five days ago."
"Five days! Is she trying to let Mom die from the pain?"
Though she didn't hate Seraphina as much as Bianca did, she still looked down on her background.
The key thing was she had just gotten back and only wanted to rest in bed, but Seraphina had disappeared, leaving her with this mess!
Michael gripped his phone tightly, his eyes cold. "Are you saying she's been bringing this medicine since she got married?"
"Yeah, for about seven years now!"
"What kind of medicine is so amazing that it can cure something other doctors couldn't?"
Now that Erica mentioned it, Michael did remember that Bianca had stomach problems, but he hadn't heard about it in recent years and had forgotten.
He never realized that Seraphina had been quietly taking care of it all along.
Hearing his question, Erica sighed impatiently. "She said it's from some retired old doctor. Who knows where she found this folk remedy? But the medicine does work, and it's the only thing that helps Mom!"
"I heard from Mom that you two had a fight these past few days? Our family has been supporting her all these years—how can she have the nerve?"
"Anyway, get her to bring the medicine over soon!"
Michael was silent for a moment, then agreed. "I understand. I'll let her know."
"Well, you better hurry. If you have to, give her a good scolding. Sometimes women just need to be taught a lesson!"
Michael said nothing more. Holding his phone, he gazed into the distance, feeling troubled.
After waiting in line for half an hour, Seraphina finally bought the ice cream Alicia liked again.
"Here, hold it tight this time, don't drop it."
She handed it to Alicia. Alicia took it with a smile, but then thought of something and hung her head.
"Seraphina, I'm sorry."
Seraphina was slightly surprised. "Why are you suddenly apologizing?"
"I shouldn't have fought with Janna today, and I shouldn't have said things that made you unhappy. I'm a bad kid."
Seraphina laughed softly and pulled her into her arms.
"How could that be? You bravely stood up for me in front of them, didn't you? I was very touched!"
Hearing this, Alicia blinked her big eyes and asked Seraphina carefully, "Seraphina, can I ask you for a favor?"
Seraphina nodded.
"I hope you won't blame Janna, okay? She didn't push me down on purpose. It's just that I took her mom away, and she feels sad!"
Seraphina was completely surprised that Alicia was speaking up for Janna, and a look of shock appeared on her face.
"Alicia, don't you blame Janna?"
