Chapter 66 — We Shouldn’t Be Here
Tatum's POV:
"We shouldn't be here." Luna says.
I look around and take a deep breath trying to detect the scent of danger when a dark chuckle suddenly comes from behind us. I swing around to find Samael standing there.
Well, well, we meet again." Samael smirks.
"What are you doing here?" I growl.
"Don't you know?" Samael says as he walks closer to us.
"What a treat this is going to be. You've managed to bring my little brother's whore with you." Samael spits out.
"Watch your tongue." Luna growls in anger.
"I have a surprise for you little wolf." Samael says with a chuckle.
"Why would I want anything from you?" She spits back at him as her eyes begin to go black.
"Your majesty, you break my heart. Is that any way to speak to your Alpha and mate?" A voice suddenly calls from behind Samael.
A familiar figure suddenly appears from behind Samael and my blood runs cold.
Luna's POV:
"He is not my Alpha or my mate!" I say angrily.
"From the way he tells it you were his first." The man replies.
"Ha! I was never his and I will never be his!" I shout as I clench my fists trying to suppress the fire in my palms.
"Well that's just a matter of perception my dear. You see if I eliminate this man that you claim is your Alpha and mate, who then will you return to?" The man says as he and Samael pull silver guns from their coats.
I hear Kali gasp behind me as a memory suddenly comes rushing back to me at his words.
"Well that's just a matter of perception my dear." I remember hearing his voice one night coming from my father's office. I didn't know what they were discussing but I could tell my father and mother were both upset. I remember my father calling him Russell.
"Russell!" I say in a growl as I stand in front of Tatum and Kali.
"Ah so you do remember me." Russell says, seeming satisfied.
"But unfortunately for you my dear that won't save you or your friends." Russell says with a wicked grin.
Russell and Samael raise the guns up aimed at us and I can suddenly hear the sound of my heart beating in my chest. The firing of the gun snaps something inside of me and I feel flames engulf my entire body.
Tatum's POV:
Luna's whole body begins to burn in flames at the sound of Russell and Samael firing the gun but no bullets have hit any of us. I suddenly realize that Russell and Samael are frozen while the bullets are lodged in thin air and with a flick of Luna's hand they fall to the ground. Russell and Samael suddenly return to normal.
Upon realizing what has happened they both begin to panic and fumble with their guns. Before they are able to reload Luna raises her hand and her body that is still engulfed in flames begins to levitate. Suddenly Russell and Samael are both on fire and burning. Luna lets out an ear-piercing cry as she watches them burn and struggle with the flames.
"Luna!" I shout her name desperately trying to reach her before she does something that can't be undone.
Kali is shaking with terror and clinging to my arm. I shake my arm from her and lunge at Luna. I cried out in pain as the flames burned my skin and I could feel her heart beat erratically through every inch of her body. I held onto her as tight as I could but my consciousness began to fade in and out.
"Luna, you have to stop this." I say desperately.
I feel Luna's body stiffen and her heartbeat slow. Just as I was about to lose consciousness and release her a white light suddenly shines from her as she returns us to the ground. My fading consciousness has returned to normal and my body no longer feels hot but cool like a winter breeze. Just as Luna's feet hit the ground she collapses in my arms and is completely unresponsive.
"Luna." I say as I shake her shoulder.
She doesn't move and I can't feel her pulse so I begin to panic. I look out at where Russell and Samael were standing to see them crumpled to the ground but no longer on fire. My breathing begins to become erratic and I feel like I am fixing to faint when my mother suddenly appears before me with men cloaked in white.
"What happened?" My mother asks as she reaches out to Luna touching her on the forehead.
"They attacked us. She stopped them but I don't know what happened. I don't know how. First, she was on fire. They were burning. Then, I saw a bright light, and now she won't wake up." I replied with panic in my voice and I continued to look at Luna's lifeless body in my arms.
My mother and the cloaked men turned to look towards where Russell and Samael were. One of the men lifted his arm and their bodies disappeared.
Narrator POV:
A power spike like no other suddenly shoots through every corner of the underworld and a demon jumps to his feet. Fear dances across his face as the power he is feeling increases each second. He blinks leaving the castle behind to find his missing queen.
When he arrived at the location the power was spawning from he saw the girl he had seen before unconscious in a man's arms. The man was shaking her trying to get her to wake up when men in white cloaks appeared out of thin air. He watched as two crumpled bodies disappeared with the wave of one of the cloaked men's hands. Suddenly a woman stepped forward and began talking to the man who was holding the girl, his queen, in his arms. Then without warning one of the men stepped forward and began speaking.
