"That went well! Don't  you think so?"

I picked up Sarah's hand and kissed it then rested back on her thigh.

"Yes. Your dad didn't have anything to say to me. I am sure he will call and yell at you!" she snort laughs.

Sarah rolls down her window letting the cool summer night air in the car. The boys came back in exactly one hour just like Andrew requested from Blaze. His boys have a grown a lot since last summer when I saw them. They both hit on Alex and she seem to like them. Aidan is dozing off.

"So...Alex, you gave Blaze and River your number?"

I look in the mirror at her, she looks up and rolls her eyes. "Maybe! Not like I am interested in some small town boys!" crossing her arms over her chest she looks out the window.

"Geesh, you are such a player Alex. What about Tanner?" asks Aidan his voice sounds groggy.
"Tanner who?" she laughs. "That was fun while it lasted!"

I look over at Sarah. "Like mother like daughter!" I start laughing and Sarah slaps my shoulder.

"Mom, when did you lose your virginity?" asks Alex.

Sarah looks over at me, her eyes grow. "Umm...I was younger than you, baby!"

"Dad, what about you?" damn, I am sweating, Sarah is covering her smile with her hand.

Before I could answer my phone goes off. It's my father. I answer the call. "Dad, you are on speaker, in the car. Everyone can hear you!"

"Ok Jackson, I was wondering if you and Sarah will let the kids spend the day with me tomorrow. I would love to get to know them. Your uncle Jack is coming over with Archie too!"

I look at Sarah and she looks at me. "Yes, Grandpa. We will be there!" beams Aidan. I guess they answered that for us.

"Promise to tell us what dad was like as a kid?" asks Alex.

"Anything you want to know! I will tell you!"

"Ok, dad maybe not anything, ok?"

My dad starts laughing. "Yes, sure Jackson! You all have a goodnight! Tomorrow at 9 am. Get some sleep!"

We hung up and now I am stressing. I don't need my father telling my kids all my shit stories. I let go of the steering wheel and wipe the sweat from my forehead with the back of my hand. Alex has been texting this whole time, her fingers move so fast over her phone screen. She looks up at me.

"So, you didn't answer my question!"

"I was younger too!" I admit.

"Were you in love? What does the mate bond feel like? When does it happen, like how old do you have to be to find your mate?"

I am stunned, she is asking all the right questions. Ok, I got this, I am going to treat her like an adult. I have a feeling she is trying to make an adult decision. Sarah speaks up first and tells her she was not in love.

"As a matter of fact, I have only been in love with two people in my life. Real love."
"Matteo and dad?"
"No. Your father and ....." she pauses and looks over at me like she is afraid to say it, damn it...don't fucking say Andrew. "....Andrew, Blaze and River's dad!"
"Oh shit!" says Alex covering her mouth. "Sorry, I didn't mean to curse!" she smiles. "That's fucking weird!" she starts to laugh.

When are we going to get home, this is like the longest drive I have ever taken. I am still sweating, she is about to ask me.

"Dad?"
"Alex, you are stressing him out. He has been sweating this whole time. Stop with the twenty questions!" laughs Aidan, he is wide awake.
"Dad, same question!"

"There is no set age of when you meet your mate. There are a few signs, first you pick up their scent stronger than anyone else's around. Second you should feel a pull toward them and last sparks or shivers will break out over your skin anytime you touch your mate. Now I don't know if it's going to work the same with you both, you are technically less than half breeds because I am a half breed, my mother was human."

"Sparks huh? Ok but you skipped a part."

I chuckle quietly, damn kid catches everything. Shit do I want to tell her, Sarah is going to be pissed off at me for sure. How do I even explain that I have loved everyone I have slept with including that lunatic Ashley without irritating my mate. There we are finally home, I am pulling in the driveway.

"I tend to be....what is the word I am looking for, not romantic...I fall in love easy so there is a possibility that I was in love with everyone I have been with!"

Sarah is throwing daggers at me with her eyes. She relaxes her hand and lets go of me, shit! Alex is leaning forward looking at us, noticing the tension in the car.

"What about cheating? How do you both feel about cheating?"

This kid is going to be the death of me tonight. Sarah is looking directly at me awaiting my answer but I want to hear hers too because I am not the only cheater in the car.

"It's not worth it, so don't do it. That is my advice on that!"

"Have you ever cheated on anyone?" asks Aidan, he leans forward after he unbukles himself.

There is no way around it. "Yes. Everyone I have dated."

"Mom?" Alex looks over at her because she is giving me dirty looks and not talking and I could feel her anger rolling around in the car. She knows all this, it's nothing new. I would never do it now. I was dumb kid.

"Yes. On the few guys I did date. I don't think I ever felt bad about it though."

"MOM!!!! That's cold!"

That is news to me. We get out of the car and I lock it. I am hoping we are done talking for tonight. Walking in the house, you can hear the water running in the kitchen. Jennifer is doing dishes and drinking wine. Tanner is in the living room watching tv. I grab a water from the fridge and Alex drops the one question I don't want to answer. I am going to break and drink. It's been a decade since I've tasted alcohol and I am seriously contemplating it right now.

"Dad, are you going to answer me? Have you ever cheated on mom?"

Jennifer looks over at me, she might know the answer. I can feel Sarah's eyes on the back of my head. She never told them. Aidan is taking a seat on the other side of the kitchen island. I reach in the cabinet above the fridge and pull out whiskey. I grab a glass and fill it. I swirl the brown liquid and bring it to my lips. I have missed that burn.

"I have cheated on her. Multiple times!"

I down the whiskey.
