Chapter 34 Weird Behavior

Chapter 34 Weird Behavior
Grayson's POV

What's wrong again with Quinn? Now she looks gloomy. She didn't even look at me when she first arrived, which was unusual.

She was just sitting in the glass seats watching the practice routine. She didn't interact with the coaches or other players either.

She's been very quiet today.

I wanted to know what she was thinking but I couldn't.

I don't know what kind of curse it is that I can't read my fated mate's mind.

My curiosity got the better of me when Quinn looked down at her phone and sighed. She was also becoming more agitated than ever.

Shit, was that about Dylan? Could something have happened to Dylan?

I know how much Quinn loves her brother. And if Quinn didn't have any problems with me yesterday, then it's very likely that the change in her attitude today is about her brother.

Then this is the time for me to calm her down. This is when I'm useful to her.

So I quickly finished my practice by putting the puck in so many times that it met the limit set by the coach.

I then skated over to Quinn's place. I put my hand on the glass and tapped it.

"Grayson? What the... gosh, are you hurt?" Quinn hurriedly got up.

I took off my helmet and quickly exited the rink. "Nothing's wrong," I replied when I reached her.

"Then why come to me?"

"The practice is over. Speaking of which, how about your brother?"

Quinn's eyes widened. "Why are you suddenly asking about my brother?"

Oh shit man! I forgot that Quinn might not know that I already knew about Dylan. Quinn probably also didn't know that I had been paying for Dylan's treatment since our first meeting.

I'd deliberately arranged for the money Quinn paid to the hospital and her old flat to look like it was received when it was actually deposited into a savings account in her name. Any time she needed it, I'd give her the money. No strings attached.

"Just curious because I didn't see him when I visited your old flat."

Quinn sighed softly then smiled faintly. "He was staying at his school dorm. He’s fine now."

This is what I meant about not wanting to tell Quinn about my involvement in Dylan's treatment. Because she hadn't been open about the real reason she'd accepted my offer to be my sex partner.

Quinn still hadn't been honest with me that she was doing it for her brother.

I thought if I told her, then she might be shocked and have thoughts of me doing all that just to tie her to me. But that's not the case. My goal was that I didn't want to make my fated mate miserable.

"You're not lying?" I asked for confirmation.

"What would I lie for, Grayson?"

Okay if it wasn't Dylan that had Quinn thinking out loud, could it have been Owen the brazen lawyer?

Well if it was, then I'd take him to a duel. How dare that damn lawyer interfere with mine!

"I'm just not in the mood," Quinn said later.

"You can be honest with me if there's something wrong," I assured her.

"Grayson." Quinn crossed her arms. "Don't get hurt when I say it. But our relationship is just boss and employee. Nothing more."

Fuck that's right. Quinn wasn't wrong, she was just clarifying the boundaries of our status.

I also couldn't do anything to make Quinn my girlfriend or officially our relationship right now.

The timing just wasn't right. Especially now that all eyes are on me. Claiming Quinn as my fated mate would only expose her to attacks from various parties.

Even though I can protect her and will definitely protect her, it's still better not to have any attacks on Quinn.

I didn't expect everyone to love and support us, but at least with no blasphemy, it was better for Quinn.

"If there's nothing else, I'll be going," she excused herself.

I moved to the side as she did too. I prevented her from leaving. "You're not coming to my house?"

"Isn't the game the day after tomorrow?"

"Just in case you want to visit."

"What for?"

I shrugged. "To look around. Or if you want to swim, there's a private pool. Have you seen it? The one outside the window-"

"I can't swim."

"Really?"

"That's right young master Grayson. I can't swim." Quinn rolled her eyes. "Please get out of my way."

I shook my head, not wanting to be bothered. "Tell me first, where are you going?"

"I'm going to the management office and then home. It's a rare day because I'm not that busy you know."

I stared at Quinn for a while without blinking to find out if she was lying or not. But she didn't show any signs of agitation typical of someone hiding something.

So this time I didn't stop Quinn anymore. I stepped aside, letting her pass me.

Then I turned around, watching her from the same position. I watched her back, which was getting farther and farther away.

If Quinn says today is a rare day, then I have to make that rare day lighter for her. I have to lighten her burden by not asking her for something she doesn't want.

Before Quinn actually walked into the management office, I shouted to stop her. I wanted to make sure of one more thing.

"Quinn!" I called rather loudly. She turned her head. I smiled. "Use your free time to rest more."

Quinn nodded and then disappeared into the management office.

At first there was no problem and I was relieved Quinn wasn't lying. But then that damn lawyer, Owen, suddenly emerged from the restroom.

He stopped in front of the management office door, looking at me with a smirk. In his mind he's saying: I'm going to steal Quinn from you.

Then he walked in and darkened the glass wall.

Fuck! Aside from my family, there was another person I had to get rid of so I could be at peace with Quinn.

He was Owen Willow Drew, Alpha and heir to the Drew Law & Firm. He's a demon disguised as a helper of people. He's more dangerous than he looks from the outside.
