Chapter 33 Loyalty Tested
Quinn's POV
Normally I rarely accept handshakes from strange men except for my patients, but this time I accepted because I didn't think he would mess up since we were in a public space.
"Quinn," I introduced myself.
"Please have a seat." He pointed to the chair next to me.
I tried what he did. I should be taking a bus to the S-T Arena for work right now. For the sake of this man who said he would answer my questions, I was willing to be a few minutes late.
I also knew what the White Tiger was. It was a hockey team that was on the rise and ranked just below Frost Maple this season. The competition between the two teams is fierce and according to rumors, the White Tiger team will also recruit an Alpha werewolf to be their new player, as a center like Grayson's position.
What I don't know is why Martin, the White Tiger's general manager, came to see me.
I'll try to listen to his questions first. If it's about the game, then I'll go. If it's about something else, then I'll stay. Because my role is as a therapist for one of the players on the team opposite the team he supports. If I talk about the game, I'm breaking my contract.
Besides, I also don't want to let him know about the Frost Maple team's situation. Not even if he might insist.
"So here's the thing. Our team is looking for a massage therapist who can handle an Alpha werewolf. More or less like your current job. If possible a woman as well since our new player requested that."
Oh so the rumor of the new player being an Alpha werewolf is true.
If that's the case then I should warn Grayson to be more careful because it's possible he'll face the new player in one of the games.
Alpha vs Alpha. That will definitely be fierce. So I want Grayson to prepare himself. After all, he had never fought a fellow Alpha, only a Beta.
"You want to ask me for a recommendation?"
Martin shook his head. He then placed both hands on the table and leaned forward. "I intend to recruit you. Would you like to be the new therapist on our team especially for our new player?"
I reflexively rounded my eyes. I was about to answer but he spoke again,
"About the salary, we also know that you receive a very large amount. But if you want to join us, you will get three times your previous salary."
Wow, I really couldn't believe getting a job offer in broad daylight without even having to apply for it. Even offered a fantastic salary!
Is this a disaster or blessing?
I sighed softly, trying to control myself to stay calm. "First of all, I would like to know how you know about me."
He looked up for a few seconds then suddenly pounded the table. It wasn't loud but it was pretty shocking, damn it.
"Actually, our coach saw you come to the arena during the last Frost Maple game yesterday. In the morning we also heard that Grayson was injured, but our coach said that after you came and provided treatment, Grayson recovered. So we were curious, what kind of treatment did you give that could recover a werewolf and even an Alpha that quickly. And most surprisingly, your treatment skill also made Grayson more in shape than he was during practice that morning. You must have a special method, right?"
What a special method!
I even only cooled Grayson's body, there was no special treatment. The rest of him was strong because he practiced diligently and had superstition. The latter was not my treatment method, it was Grayson's personal request.
"That's why we want you to use that special method on our new player who is just as strong as Grayson."
"Martin... I mean sir, you should know that I've already signed a contract with the Frost Maple team," I emphasized and warned.
"We know. But you also have the right to work somewhere that can give you more money. As for the contract penalty, our new player is willing to pay it. So take it easy if you're thinking about the money."
This old man is really persistent. Even though when I said I had signed the contract, he should have realized that and left immediately. Because that means I refused subtly!
But it seems like subtle refusal doesn't work on him. Hm well, I'll show him who I really am.
I hit the table just like he did earlier. "First, I have a job. Second, my salary is enough at this moment. Third and last and I hope you leave after this, I will not tell you how I took care of Grayson and I will sue you for prying into my personal life!"
My breathing was up and down after venting my anger.
Although I did like money and worked to earn a lot of it, I wasn't a traitor. At least I wouldn't betray the only person who helped me in my hard time.
"Well if you don't want to go, then I’ll go."
"Wait!"
I rolled my eyes in annoyance. "What else? You're wasting my precious time."
"I know you need a lot of money. You also have no income other than working part-time at various places. So why play hard to get? This opportunity won't come twice. Just accept it!"
I immediately stood up and slung my bag over my shoulder. My patience had run out.
"You can even do other methods that are different from Grayson's and that you think are better. If you don't want the same methods as Grayson, that's totally fine. We only need you because we believe you are the key to Grayson's victory. Please do the same for our new player, Quinn."
What the hell! I mean, how did he know that I was the key to Grayson's victory? Is he baiting me on purpose or does he really know? It's really hard to tell the difference. I would explode if I stayed.
I leaned slightly towards him and I looked into his eyes to speak more quietly.
"I don't want that job. My answer is the same no matter how many times you ask."
Then I waltzed away. I also tried to think of something else fun to ease my anger and forget about what happened.
After all, there was a reason why I was loyal to Grayson.
It was because Grayson was the only person who helped me and very loyal to me.
