Chapter 152 Confession (2)

Chapter 152 Confession (2)
Quinn’s POV

“So when Grayson’s father was chasing you, and because you didn’t want to get caught, you decided to run away with our father?”

“It wasn’t like that, sweetheart. I avoided him so he couldn’t track you down. Your father and I didn’t leave together. We split up.”

“And Mr. Talon didn’t do anything?”

Mum’s eyes changed. They grew dimmer. “He just said goodbye.”

“That’s really strange. Why would he say goodbye to you? He could’ve caught you, right?”

“Yes, but he never could and never would.”

I furrowed my brow. Okay, this was starting to feel off.

I didn't want to say it, but...

"Don't tell me Mr. Talon and you had a relationship?"

She grabbed my hand quickly. "No, it's not like that, sweetheart. I loved your father very much, and that will never change. But Talon..."

"He liked you?"

Mum nodded slowly. And that's when my world spun.

I gripped the chair tightly. "But you didn't run away because of that, did you?"

"No, sweetheart. I'm not lying. We, your father and I, ran away and disappeared because we wanted to protect you. We watched over you from afar."

I sighed. I wanted to scold her, but it was too late. It had already happened, and fate couldn't be changed.

"Please continue your story. I wanna hear the whole thing."

She nodded. "To camouflage ourselves during this second escape, I met Hanz's father and pretended to love him. He was sickly at the time. So I thought that if I accompanied him, it wouldn't take long. I did all of this with your father's consent and, of course, without any feelings of love. Unfortunately, the plan didn't go smoothly. On the night of the wedding, Hanz's father passed away. He hadn't touched me at all, I had only been taking care of him all this time."

Honestly, I was shocked, but I pretended to be calm. “Then what?”

“Since everyone knew we were married, I was appointed as the leader of the Leighton pack, as the new Luna. This was because Hanz was still very young at the time. So I had the opportunity to lead the pack until Hanz came of age. Unfortunately, after Hanz went through his coming-of-age ceremony, he expelled me.”

"But why?"

"I think it's because he misunderstood and held a grudge against me all this time. I mean, I came after his mother left. Then I married his father, and his father died after getting to know me. Even though his mother left because of problems with his father and his father's death wasn't because of me, in a child's mind, maybe I was the cause of it all. And that thought remained with him until he grew up, and then when he had the power, he made it happen."

Oh, that's a very sad story.

But actually, there is something even sadder, which is that she takes care of someone else's child and neglects her own. Even though it was part of her disguise, it still feels very sad.

Thinking about her accompanying and witnessing Hanz's growth makes me envious. Dylan and I should’ve been blessed with that too, but in reality, we weren't.

And what makes my anger boil over again is that even Dylan had to endure his treatment alone while I was out earning money for him.

Oh my gosh. I hate remembering those times again.

"I'm so sorry, sweetheart. I'm a terrible mother who only wants to protect you and Dylan."

I turned my face away, unable to look at her.

"After being kicked out of there, I didn't leave alone, but with several members of the pack who were loyal to me and willing to fight alongside me. After that, that was when I met your father again after so long. Then we all hid again, quietly gathering strength to become strong again. This time, we hid to avoid Hanz, who couldn't be reasoned with."

“Did Hanz find you?”

“Not yet. But from what we’ve heard, Hanz’s anger hasn’t subsided. Hanz still thinks I killed his father. And from my spies, he informed me that Hanz intends to disrupt my family as retribution. He’s not just looking for me, but also my children, you and Dylan.”

“So that’s why you were shocked when I said I met Hanz?”

“Yes, sweetheart. To be honest, I want you to cut off contact with him. Not just because of this revenge issue. But I’m also afraid he’ll try to destroy your relationship with Grayson. Because I don’t want the two of you to separate. I can’t bear to see the same story repeat itself with my child.”

Now I understand why Hanz wanted to work with me. It wasn't because he wanted to help me, but because he wanted to use me as bait to lure my mother out of hiding.

Now I know how cunning Hanz is!

Luckily, I haven't done anything even though I agreed.

I'll cancel it or pretend so he gives up.

She gently stroked my cheek. "I know what it's like to fight to be with the man I love. So I don't want all your and Grayson's struggles to be in vain, sweetheart."

This time she was right. Our stories were almost similar.

But I didn't want to repeat that. I didn't want to be separated from Grayson. I would fight for him until the very end.

Even if no one agreed, I didn't care. Even if the whole universe was against us, as long as Grayson loved me, everything would be fine.

"So you weren't kicked out, you ran away?"

"Yes. Did Hanz tell you otherwise?"

"The gist of what he said was that you had problems with Grayson's extended family and that he welcomed you warmly into his territory."

She growled. "Besides being stubborn, he's also very cunning. So please be careful. It's better not to deal with him anymore."

I sighed heavily. "After you and father left the territory ruled by Hanz, where did you live? What did you do?"

"I lived in the small town where your father's parents came from. There, we built our pack. Although it's not very big yet, it's already stronger and its members are slowly increasing."

"And you became its leader?"

"Yes. I lead that territory. Moon Fall, that's the name of our pack, sweetheart." She smiled. "If you're willing, I'd like to invite you and Grayson to come."

“I can’t promise anything. But speaking of which, what’s your ability?”

“Mind Shield. That’s why even though Hanz can read other people’s minds, he can’t read mine, and I can stay there for quite a while. Until he found out about my past.”

I let go of her hand. “Alright, I get it now. I have to go before Grayson comes back.”

She hugged me. “Please give my regards to Dylan. Tell him I love him too. I love him so much.”
