Chapter 151 Confession (1)

Chapter 151 Confession (1)
Quinn’s POV

“No, sweetheart, Mummy won’t separate you two. If that’s what you want, then let’s find somewhere more comfortable.” She moved away from me. She let me walk first.

I was quite hesitant, but in the end I kept walking.

"How are you gonna deal with the person you knocked unconscious? What about the CCTV? You know I'm already the subject of gossip with those Alphas, right? I don't want any new gossip to make things worse."

She smiled slightly. "The CCTV is broken and scheduled for repair today. But because of the snowstorm, it's been postponed. So no one will be recording us here."

I sighed. “You sound like an assassin now.”

She didn’t answer. Then my guilt, which always came suddenly, made me feel rude for saying that.

“I mean, you’re so different from how you used to be. Your look and your courage, everything,” I corrected myself.

She used to have black hair, but now it's blonde. She used to be afraid to stand up to people who said mean things to her, but now she can take down a bad man who wants to hurt me.

Sixteen years is a long time. It's like I don't know her anymore when I see her like this.

"I'm so sorry, sweetheart. I used to live in fear every day. I was afraid of being caught and them taking you and Dylan. So I had to change everything."

I paused for a moment to look at her. "Who would take us? Father?"

"No. Your father loves you both very much."

"What?" I laughed. "Neither Dylan nor I have ever seen him. He's never even been there to fulfil the role of a father in our lives."

She sighed softly. "I was afraid someone else would take you. And as for your father, what I'll tell you later has something to do with him too. He's actually a good man, sweetheart."

"Don't tell me my whole life has been a lie."

"Not everything. But some things had to be faked to keep you safe."

She then pointed her hand towards a car parked near the exit. A man emerged from the driver’s seat.

I pointed at him. “Is he my father?”

“No. He’s my driver and my trusted man.”

I chuckled. “So you weren’t poor all this time? Oh, I forgot, you could even afford to support us, albeit barely, after you disappeared. Well, at least until I could earn my own money.”

She couldn’t answer me this time. She just invited me into her car.

My anger boiled over when I realised that this was a brand new car of the same make as Grayson's. I really didn't understand why my mother made Dylan and me suffer while she lived in such luxury.

I clenched my fists and tried very hard not to lose my temper. But when she got in and the driver stayed outside, I finally let out all my pent-up feelings. "Do you even know that Dylan is sick?"

"Yes, I know. I have given money for his treatment to your caretaker. Including your monthly allowance and all your needs, I entrusted it to her."

"But it never reached us. Ah, or maybe it did, but it was embezzled."

Her eyes widened. Her teeth chattered.

I chuckled. "That's how you are, Mum. You're so trusting that even when people lie to you, you don't realise."

She leaned forward, as if she was gonna hug me, but I put my hands in front of my chest. "Okay, forget about that. Now, let's talk about the misunderstanding."

She sighed deeply. But finally returned to her position.

Honestly, this situation was very uncomfortable. I felt like running away, but I also wanted to hear everything until the end. I wanted to know what I had wanted to know all this time. While the source was there and while I wasn't with Grayson.

"In the past—"

"Wait," I interrupted. "Before that, why did you deliberately show yourself to Owen and not to me or anyone else?"

"I didn't want to surprise you. I also couldn't show myself to just anyone. Because I didn't know who was on my side and who wasn't. I couldn't read their minds."

“And that’s very cruel, you know, Mum. You could have sent a letter and at least let us know you were still alive.”

“You would’ve come looking for me if you knew I was still alive. But it wasn’t the right time to show myself.”

I looked at her in disbelief. “So now you think it’s the right time? When will I'm happy with my boyfriend and accepted by his family?”

“I know this is a difficult position for you, sweetheart. But I can’t hide any longer. Before it’s too late.”

“You mean before I decide to marry Grayson?”

She nodded.

Oh damn it!

"Can I continue now?"

I leaned back in the chair. "You'd better do it before I decide to leave."

"All right, sweetheart. Thank you so much for trusting me." She smiled faintly.

She then leaned towards me. "In the past, I was a member of the Leander Pack. Grayson's parents and I knew each other, we were good friends. And keep in mind that since long ago, our pack did not approve of werewolves having romantic relationships with humans. But I broke that rule, and one day I fell in love with your father, who was a human."

"Your father was much kinder than other men like our species at the time. But it was clearly opposed by my parents, who were also your grandparents, the elders, and all the pack members. But we both agreed to fight for their blessing, at least from my parents. The way we did it was by giving them grandchildren as they had requested, which you and Dylan."

“Unfortunately, even after that request was fulfilled, our relationship was still opposed by the entire pack. Not wanting to sacrifice our love, I eventually fled the pack with your father. During our escape, we decided to part ways temporarily until the situation was safe. At least until the people from my pack forgot about us.”

“Wait, wait. How come neither I nor Dylan ever saw father?”

“Because he was watching over you from afar. He didn’t want his presence to put you in danger. So we only met at certain times. But all that money? That was from your father. He was quite wealthy and had expanded his parents’ business, so he could provide for us.”

Okay, this is starting to make my head spin and feel queasy.

I took a deep breath to help my brain process all that information.

“So he has been around us all this time?”

“Yes. He has never stopped watching over us.”

“Then why did you leave? Why did you suddenly leave?”

“Someone from Leander’s pack accidentally saw me.”

“Who? The elders?”

“Talon, Grayson’s father.”
