Chapter 17

The activation of great light

Merfoy knew what Niffa was trying to do as he watch her close her eyes even if Rico was grasping her neck. Merfoy was too weak to flame up, his eyes were ready to close because of the pain he had physically but he keeps on fighting it. Niffa saw the memory of great light in the forest.

“No we can’t do this,” she thought while remembering what Merfoy told them that one of them will die if they intend to do the great light to kill Seres. She opened her eyes once again and saw that Seres was already close to stabbing Rico from behind. Niffa wanted to cry as she thought about the great light and to sacrifice herself instead. Merfoy widened his eyes when he saw Niffa’s hand spark in green, she wanted to pass it back to Rico.

“Niffa, don’t tell me you’re planning something. Please don’t!” Merfoy shouts as loud as he can but seems like his voice doesn’t even echo in the place.

“Niffa, not the great light,” he murmurs already catching his breath. The wounds on his body make him weak as his eyes were closing slowly.

Niffa’s hand was almost an inch from Rico’s hand, Rico’s eyes turned blue all of a sudden and release Niffa, he quickly looks back and struck his blue flame to Seres. Niffa falls to the ground holding her neck trying to catch her breath. She can see the blue flame going through Seres’ body, Seres was shocked his eyes widened while looking at his body. His body bleeds while the blue flame went inside tearing his flesh apart. Seres spits blood as he kneeled slowly, everyone was shocked as they watch Seres flame off. The evil sorcerers surrounding Maru and Liana turned into smoke vanishing from their sight. Maru look in Merfoy’s direction as the red chain vanish as well, and his weakened body fell to the ground. Merfoy’s body suddenly bleeds out of nowhere.

“No!” Niffa shouted and blocked Rico from killing Seres. Rico was confused by Niffa’s action, she suddenly fall on her knees while pressing her wounded stomach.

“Niffa, are you okay?” Rico approaches her.

“But you want Seres to be dead, why?” Rico asked in confusion.

“You can’t kill Seres, Merfoy was connected to him. If you kill Seres then Merfoy will die too,” she said. Rico look in Merfoy’s direction, Maru and Liana was helping him to sit as they press his wound to stop the bleeding.

Rico stands up as he walks toward Merfoy, Maru glared at him as he blocked him from going near Merfoy.

“Maru, it’s me, Rico, I want to help,” Maru look closer into Rico’s eyes if it was normal, he quickly gave Rico a way as he approach Merfoy catching his breath. He kneeled in front of him and put his palm towards Merfoy’s bleeding stomach. They saw a blue light surrounding Merfoy’s body while Rico’s eyes were closed.

“Rico was controlled but he still manages to fight it,” Niffa said approaching them, she was still pressing her wounds.

Rico stands beside Niffa as they watch Merfoy’s wound disappear.

“Merfoy,” Niffa said as Merfoy opened his eyes to feel that he is good as new, he widened his eyes when he saw Seres ready to attack behind them.

“Niffa behind you!” Merfoy shouted as Seres grab Niffa’s hair and drag her from behind.

“Niffa!” Rico shouted. They should be supposed to attack him but Seres throw up his red flame in front of them blocking their way, the red fire was too high making them unable to see what was happening on the other side. Rico tried to strike his blue flame towards the red fire, the blue fire was gobbling up the red fire slowly.

“I’m glad your healing power was a big help,” Seres said as they realized that Merfoy and Seres are connected, once you healed one of them you are also healing the other. He drag Niffa away from their sight and went straight to the dark corridor. Niffa flame up her body with her green flame which creates a light for the others to see them.

“I can’t feel any sting from your fire stupid!” Seres said.

“You’re the one who’s stupid here!” she answered back as they saw Rico surrounded by blue flame standing behind them.

“What?! How did you escape?” Seres asked widening his eyes.

“I’m a good match for you remember?” Rico said taunting him.

“Damn you!” Seres shouted. Rico intends to grab Niffa’s hand but Seres made an invisible red wall out of his flame, whoever touches it will get burned. Niffa dives onto the ground trying to grab Rico’s hand. They only had inches between their fingers with the wall in between them. Rico tried to reach out for her hand but Seres’ red flame gobbled up Niffa’s half-body as it tries to pull her away from Rico.

“Niffa!” Rico shouted trying to stretch his right hand more as Niffa tried to do the same, Rico’s fingertips touches the wall as it stings him.

Everyone was shocked in terror while looking at the red wall between them, silence covered the place. Niffa crawled as she tried to slip from Seres’ fire already burning half her body, Merfoy knew that Niffa wanted to activate the great light. He saw Niffa's body in green flame while Rico’s body in blue flame then the inch between them was gone as their hands touch each other even though the red wall is burning them. There was a spark as Rico’s blue flame becomes violet again.

“Niffa pass back the green flame to Rico. This time, Rico has three flames in him making it violet,” Merfoy explained as the two watched in devastation, they cannot approach them because of the red wall. Seres’ flame pulled Niffa even further, their hands untangled again as they keep on trying their best to reach each other. This time Merfoy felt a bad feeling, he remembered how great lights are activated as he saw Rico’s hand in a violet flame and Niffa’s in a green flame.

“Wait, this scenario seems familiar,” Merfoy gasped as he remembered what happened in the past.

“What do you mean?” Maru asked.

“That’s right, this happened thousand years ago. It’s the same again when our parents activated the great light. Our father has the violet flame and our mother has the green flame which is the source for that,” he said as he watch Rico and Niffa’s hands touch each other.

“No!” Merfoy shouted as their palms collided as it sparks. It creates a massive bright light surrounding the whole place and made such strong wind that makes the debris of the castle flung and the remaining walls tear apart. Maru and Liana covered their eyes as they fling outside the castle and landed on the ground in front of the crowd. The people outside the castle were so shocked as they saw the wondrous light destroy the entire castle.

“The great light!” Queen Rui gasped, then suddenly Rico’s colossus surrounding them vanished like a cloud of smoke.

Niffa opened her eyes and she saw nothing but a bright light around her, she saw Rico standing behind her looking at her with teary eyes, she was relieved to see him as she smiled. She should be supposed to approach him but someone called her on the other side she look back and was surprised to see her parents smiling at her.

“Father? Mother? What are you doing here?” she asks as she should be walking towards them.

“Niffa no!” Rico shouted as she look back towards him, he was nodding his head sideways while his eyes were pleading her not to go. She was confused about what was happening, but she remembered that they were in a great light. They suddenly saw Seres crawling in front of them while his skin are burning slowly.

“You! How dare you use the great light to defeat me!” Seres said as his flesh are melting. They were shocked as they watch his flesh melts and slowly turn into a skeleton. Then they felt a sudden burning sensation on their skin.

“Niffa, come with us,” her mother’s sweet voice makes her walk in their direction.

“Niffa no!” Rico shouted again as she look back to see Rico’s hand wide open with a teary smile on his face ready to hug her. She doesn’t know where to go. She realized that her parents are already gone, if she chooses her parents she will die and Rico will be saved but if he chooses Rico she will be the one to be saved and maybe Rico will be the one to die.

“Rico, please forgive me, but I will choose-” her words were cut off when Rico suddenly run towards her and hugged her. Her eyes widened as she felt Rico’s warm hug, and she started to shed tears.

“At least I can save you like how your mother saved me,” he said as she felt a strong wind surrounds them. She cried along as she tightened her hug trying not to let go of him.

“Rico! You are so unfair!” she shouted as Rico started to fade like a speck of dust as the wind blow stronger and stronger.

“Live well for me,” Rico whispered with a smile as he disappeared and the wind stops. The great light that surrounds her disappeared as well. She falls to her knees and faces the ground knowing that Rico no longer exists. She keeps on crying aloud as the townspeople watch her in grief. Maru looked down as he started to shed tears as Liana hold his cheek and hug him.
