Chapter 24 CHAPTER 24: Breaking Point

Chapter 24 CHAPTER 24: Breaking Point
Kae''s POV

I could feel it before I could hear it. The spike in energy. The surge that was coming from a tiny human.

Elizabeth.

I moved away from the werewolf meeting, and they all had their eyes on me.

“Is everything okay?” One of them asked, giving me a worried look. I was barely in control of my body.

My wolf just wanted to find her, and make sure that she was okay.

“I'm fine,” I said in the calmest way that I could muster. “I just need to check on something quickly.”

With that, I headed out. Everything led me towards the west wing.

I was already on the move when the alarms went off.

Fuck, no.

By the time I got there, students were already whispering. I pushed past the crowd, and I could see the blood on the floor.

“What happened here?” I asked one of the juniors, and she licked her lips before she proceeded to speak.

“The year one student that was being attacked the last time,” she whispered. “I think Elizabeth went back to attack her. She was on the floor bleeding. And fighting for her life. She has been rushed to the hospital.”

My heart skipped a beat.

I felt the surge of energy. Elizabeth used her powers. But she couldn't have used it on that girl.

Was this another type of test? Was she trying to see if I was  going to testify against or for her again?

But at what risk?

That was when I saw her in the corner. She was on her feet, standing still. She was barely even blinking. And it was hard to believe that she was breathing as well.

I pushed through the rest of the crowd, and I stepped my fingers around her arms and I shook her slightly.

“Elizabeth,” I called gently, and there was no response. She didn't even look up at me.

I grabbed her arm even harder, and she yanked her arm away from mine, like she suddenly snapped back to life. And she was angry.

“Don't touch me,” she snapped, and her eyes seemed to blaze with fire.

She was angry. And now, I didn't even know what I was supposed to think. Was she guilty or not?

I could tell that it wasn't her. Something must have pushed her to do this.

I reached out for her again, and her power suddenly hit me, pushing me backwards. It took a lot for me not to cry out in pain. I wasn't going to give the crowd anything to talk about.

But they ended up gasping..

That was whatever the person who did this wanted to happen. And if Elizabeth didn't snap back to reality, she was going to put herself and me in even more trouble than intended.

I managed to steady myself, and I looked at her properly. She didn't take her eyes off me. She wanted me to see her. She wanted me to feel what she was feeling.

And it wasn't anger. It was something that looked like collapse.

My heart seemed to slow down. But out of pity. Out of guilt that I wasn't there when all of this happened. Why the fuck did I even leave her alone?

I turned back to look at the crowd. At least they were going to believe what I had to say.

“She isn't guilty,” I said loud enough for everyone to hear.

Elizabeth's eyes widened like she didn't expect me to say that.

What she didn't know was that I wasn't leaving her side for anything. I was always going to stick to her. Especially during things like this.

She deserved it. Especially when I knew what she was capable of. Yes, she couldn't control her powers, but she wouldn't just hurt anybody. Not when she knew the amount of trouble it caused the last time.

The crowd quietened. I could tell that they didn't believe me just yet. They were still in doubt, and I couldn't blame them. There wasn't even an atom of evidence.

“You don't know that,” she said and I turned to look at her.

“I do,” I answered. And this time, it was because I was willing to. I didn't step away. I wasn't willing to step away, or leave her alone. Not when she was going through this.

More whispers went through the crowd, and I didn't even care what they thought about the whole thing. I just knew that Elizabeth was innocent. There were no two ways about it.

“Enough,” another voice cut through the crowd, and I could immediately feel the control.

It was our one and only control king. Andy the great.

The moment he stepped through, I could feel the authority shift from me to him. All eyes were on him now. Just the way he wanted.

Lucif stepped forward, right after him.

For the first time in a while, I was seeing Lucif. And I was even shocked that he still knew the direction to the school. Especially when he knew that he hadn't been to most of the classes.

He gave me a small nod. “Been a while,” he said calmly, and I nodded back at him.

“Where have you been?” I asked, and he pressed his lips into a thin line, like he didn't want to talk about it.

Either way, he opened his mouth to speak.

“I had some business to settle.”

I cocked an eyebrow at him. I didn't want to know the kind of business that he was involved in. But at the same time, I still asked.

“What kind of business.”

“Something that you won't like. Considering how clean you've been all these years.”

I smirked. “Like you don't know about my past.”

That made him smile just a bit too. “Trust me, I know every bit.”

The both of us knew just what we were doing. We were trying to get Elizabeth to loosen up. And she was doing that. The sharp loon that she had on her face had reduced just a bit. We were getting there, little by little.

I looked back at Andy. The way he stood there, addressing the students.

Well, that was what we were made for.

Lucif exhaled in an exaggerating way. “I'm glad you have a smart person on your side, Elizabeth,” she said, and her gaze flicked from Andy to us, and then she gave us a small smile.

Andy took a step back, and Lucif and I knew to move away from each other, so that he was right at the center.

“Elizabeth Siege is not alone,” he said calmly enough to pass the message. And whoever didn't get it, was just an idiot.

I turned back to look at Elizabeth. “You are not alone,” I whispered again, and she gave me a stiff nod this time.

She believed me.
