Chapter 19 CHAPTER 19: Too Close

Chapter 19 CHAPTER 19: Too Close
Kae''s POV

The smile that was on my lips was bitter. I stood across from Elizabeth and Andy.

Anybody that was watching could see the shift in her gaze. The way she looked at him like she adored him as well. The last thing I wanted her to become was one of those people that practically worshipped Andy.

And now, I could tell that she was about to be one of them. But then, she was Elizabeth. It wasn't going to take that much time until she lost control, and went back to hating him.

Fine.

Maybe I was just jealous. That I was supposed to be the one in that position. I was the one that made the first move to be her friend. And I had lost her with the stupid move that I made.

When was I going to stop feeling guilty about the things that I did to her? It was stupid that I did that to her just the day after I talked to her.

I didn't even take the time out to actually be her friend. I just acted like an idiot. And I was still paying the price.

“They both look kind of perfect together,” one of the girls that was looking at them said as well.

“I haven't seen Andy look at someone with such intensity. It's almost like he's trying to read her.”

“The school is going to go up in flames if they end up being a thing.”

I wanted to tell them to shut the fuck up.

I looked back at the both of them, and I closed my eyes in disgust. I didn't like it one bit.

The bell went off, and I went to class, leaving the both of them there.

By afternoon, I could smell her, and I followed the scent immediately. She was at the training grounds, sitting on the bare floor, with her legs crossed. Her eyes were closed, and I could tell that she was trying to calm herself down.

She was pushing herself a little too hard.

By the time I got closer, I saw the sweat on her forehead, and the way she was breathing hard.

She was definitely doing other things before I got there.

“You're going to burn out,” I said, and she looked up at me, with a firm look. Not the same softer one that she gave Andy.

I ran a hand through my face.

“I'll deal with it,” she said, already getting to her feet.

“You don't even know what it is yet,” I said, and that got her million dollar attention. She slowly turned to face me fully.

“I'm figuring it out. You don't have to worry about me.”

“By destroying yourself?” I asked, and she turned to look at me, more than annoyed. I could see the dark circles underneath her eyes.

Was she even sleeping? She was exhausted.

“Do you have a better plan?” She snapped.

I did, actually. But that meant that she was going to give the one thing that I was so sure she wasn't going to give me.

Not after I destroyed it the last time.

Her trust.

I took a step towards her, and she didn't take one back. Maybe we were getting somewhere.

“I can help you control your powers,” I said, and she tipped her head back, as a sharp laughter escaped her throat.

“You had your chance to help me,” she whispered, and that was nothing less than the truth.

I swallowed hard. I wanted to reach out for her. To feel her.

But then, it felt wrong to do as well.

“Let me fix it,” I said calmly, and she pressed her lips together. I could see all the gears in her head turn. She was making her decision, and she was trying to make it fast.

The silence that stretches between the both of us was more than unbearable.

Then she finally faced me again. “Show me,” she said shortly, and it felt nothing less than a challenge.

At least she had given me the permission I needed.

I stepped behind her, correcting her stance. Widening her legs slightly, and holding on to her waist as I tried to activate her core.

My fingers brushed against her skin, and I froze for just a second. I heard her gasp as well.

I could feel the pull. The connection.

“What are you doing?” She whispered, and her voice came out shaky. She could feel it too. The tension.

“I'm showing you,” I muttered, and she swallowed so hard that I could see her throat flex.

“Focus, now,” I muttered, and she nodded a little too quickly.

Her breathing had shifted again, and I stepped away from her, turning around to stand in front. I watched my hand work from head to toe, and I nodded.

She was in the perfect position.

“How do you feel?” I asked, and she inhaled, like she was checking. Then she pressed her hands against her stomach and her chest.

“I can feel the power here,” she said, looking up at me, like she was trying to make sure that it was normal.

“Does it hurt?” I asked, and she cocked her head to the side, assessing how she was feeling.

“It does. But in a good way. It almost feels like a burning feeling.”

Then she smiled. “It feels good.”

I couldn't help but smirk at her. She liked the pain. That was a good thing. And I was here to teach her everything she needed to know.

She looked up at me, and her gaze had softened. But it wasn't fully soft. She was still looking guarded, but she was better than the way she looked before.

“Is there anything else you have to teach me?” She asked, and I gave her a smile. A genuine one.

“Yes,” I said calmly. But you first have to get used to the feeling of the power in your chest.”

She nodded at me, and she went back to her normal standing position.

“Come and do it again,” she whispered, and I got behind her, widening her legs again, and activating her core.

Once again, I could feel her energy shift. Her breathing became much more shallow, and I enjoyed seeing her like that.

Knowing that I had an effect on her too. The both of us weren't ready to address it, but it was there.

I can't deny the fact that the proximity that I was having around her was not one of the things that inspected after everything that had happened.

But it was there. And just for a second, I could feel her back press to my front. She quickly moved away, like I burned her.

“I'm so sorry,” she whispered, and I gave her a small nod.

“You don't have to worry about that.”

She went back, trying the position again. I could tell that she was never going to get tired of this. She just wanted to remain in control.

She wanted to have a say on what she was. And I was there to help her. I was never going to get tired of helping her.

As long as it helped me win her trust over again. As long as it gave me the chance to be close to her again.

Because I couldn't push away the thought that it was going to happen more times than usual.
