Chapter 16 CHAPTER 16: The Pull

Chapter 16 CHAPTER 16: The Pull
Elizabeth''s POV

It started subtly. The hum underneath my skin. Everything about it felt normal at that moment. Until it wasn't.

I was counting the ceiling the whole time. Replaying the conversations in my head. The wrong ones. The battles that I should have just wakes away.

Was I supposed to be proud that I was sitting down in front of the hospital building, hoping that they weren't going to bring Jasmine out on a stretcher covered on white clothes? I regretted what I did.

But of course, she was a bully. And it didn't matter how many people took a step back out of fear. They were glad that all of that happened.

I could see the joy written all over them. And a part of me was more than glad to even be there.

My eyes drifted to the other side of the bed. For just a second, I imagined what it was going to feel like, having a king in each bed. I closed my eyes, shaking my head.

They were the only ones that were still making attempts to talk to me. That was the only valuable explanation for those thoughts I was having.

It didn't even matter if they were right. I was different. And I didn't deserve a roommate. The school felt that was the best thing.

“How thoughtful,” I said out loud, with my voice bouncing off the walls. I forced myself to a sitting position, before heading to the bathroom.

I got a glimpse of myself in the mirror, and there were dark circles under my eyes. My eyes were more than puffy, and my hair looked slightly like a rat’s nest. It didn't matter if it was midnight. At least I  didn't have a roommate that was going to start asking me questions.

I put my hands underneath the tap, as I allowed the water to fill them as I brought my hand to my head, pouring the water in, before going in with the comb.

My legs buckled, and that was when the humming started again.

The comb fell out of my hand, and my hands were shaking by the time I leaned down to pick the comb again.

What was it this time?

A part of me was expecting anything. Ranging from unnecessary powers, to unknown reactions. Like this one. And I could only hope that I was even going to come out alive when the real danger came.

I couldn't get rid of Andy's voice in my head, telling me that I was in danger. I just didn't know how deep in danger I was.

Would things have been different if I went to a random school instead? I was sure as hell that I wouldn't have gotten bullied. I might have been my own Jasmine. But for the smart kids.

But in this school, I wasn't even sure that the students tried. They already felt that the good grades should be left for Andy. With thoughts like that, I couldn't even blame him for the kind of pride that he had.

“Come outside,” I heard a voice say, and I turned around immediately, before I forced myself to head back to the main room.

There was a sudden wind in the air, and every bit of it was urging me to come outside.

No.

I shook my head. I wasn't just going to listen to any voice. I had the right to decide.

I had barely finished chanting those mantras in my head when my body moved on its own accord.

My legs were moving before I could even make the decision. For some reason, the door was open, and I just had to walk outside.

I walked right through the hallways. The other rooms. The balcony. Down the stairs. And before I knew it, I was downstairs.

The huge door outside was open as well, and I frowned. They always locked it by 11pm. And it was 2am in the morning.

I swallowed, but my body didn't even stop moving. I kept going.

Something was calling out to me, and I was responding for some reason.

I was out under the night sky before I knew it. The campus was quiet, but the pulling wasn't even done.

I continued walking, until I was so close to the edge of the school grounds.

That was when I could feel the stronger pull. Whoever was trying to get to me was definitely calling me all the way from there.

It was something ancient. I should have stopped, but I didn't.

I wanted to know. Maybe whatever was calling, had the answers that I had been looking for this whole time.

My feet moved even quicker, moving through the grounds. The air suddenly changed, and I could barely breathe.

The trees had even turned thin, and I could feel the magic everywhere.

Stronger magic.

Lucif's magic was strong, but this one was something else.

Something that I didn't think even Lucif would be able to handle.

Then I suddenly saw the mark that was carved into a huge stone. I narrowed my eyes at it, and it seemed more than familiar.

It felt wrong.

I took another step forward, and the symbol suddenly glowed, like it was responding to me.

“What the…” I whispered into the night air.

Whatever the mark in the stone was, it was good enough to stop me from icing without knowing my direction.

Movement on the other end gained my attention immediately, and I turned to take in the sight of the figures that had suddenly stepped out of the shadows.

Was this some kind of game to the people of the school?

I narrowed my eyes to see them properly, and all I could see were their cloaks.

The ground underneath my feet hummed in pleasure.

I could finally make out their faces. Two men, and a woman in between them.

They were looking at me weirdly. Like they had found what they were looking for this whole time.

I was what they were looking for.

I didn't know if I was supposed to run. I tried running away, but even that was impossible. I could feel something holding my feet down.

I looked just in time to see that there were glasses that had entangled themselves in my shoes, preventing me from even moving at all.

The woman stepped forward, smiling.

“Finally,” she whispered, and I felt my throat up.

My stomach turned, and I could feel my pulse spike. My power reacted to them in a wild and unsteady way, but that wasn't enough to get me out of the grass holding my feet down.

The three of them still had their eyes on me. Like they were just seeing someone in flesh and blood for the first time.

Who were these people?
