Chapter 39 Chapter 39

Chapter 39 Chapter 39
Sable’s POV

White.

Was all I could see when I opened my eyes.

Endless.

Blinding.

It swallowed everything—the voices, the pain, the power, the fear. For a moment, I thought I had disappeared inside it.

Or maybe I had become part of it.

My body felt weightless, like I was floating in something that wasn’t air and wasn’t space. There was no ground beneath me. No sky above me.

Just light and silence.

Too much silence.

I blinked slowly, my thoughts struggling to piece themselves together.

"I choose–"

The words echoed faintly in my head, but still I couldn’t remember what I had chosen.

Panic rose instantly.

"No...." I whispered.

My voice didn’t sound right.

It stretched across the emptiness, layered and distant like it didn’t fully belong to me.

"What did I do?"

A ripple moved through the white space.

Soft and barely noticeable.

But I felt it.

Something was responding.

"You chose".

The voice came from everywhere.

And nowhere.

I turned sharply, my heart racing.

"Who’s there?"

No answer.

Just another ripple.

Then–

The white began to change slowly, like something was trying to take shape inside it.

My breath caught as a figure began to form right in front of me.

Familiar.

It was too familiar, I thought I was dreaming.

"No...", I whispered.

The shape solidified.

A girl stood there.

Same height, same face, same eyes just like mine.

But there was something different about her.

Her gaze locked onto mine, calm and unreadable.

"You finally made it here".

My chest tightened painfully.

"What is this...?"

She tilted her head slightly.

"You don’t recognize it?"

"I’ve never been here".

"You have", she said softly. "You just don’t remember".

A chill ran down my spine.

"What are you?", I asked.

She smiled faintly.

"Better question".

"What are you?", she asked me back.

My stomach dropped.

"I’m Sable".

Her expression didn’t change.

"Are you?"

Anger flickered inside me.

"Yes, I am".

"Then why are you here?"

I froze.

Because I didn’t have an answer.

Her eyes softened slightly.

Though not that of kindness but....knowingly.

"You felt it, didn’t you?" she said. "The pull".

My chest tightened.

"The power?", I asked.

She nodded.

"And more".

The word echoed.

More.

"What does that mean?" I asked.

She stepped closer.

Slowly and carefully, like she was approaching something fragile.

""Silver and darkness", she said quietly. "Creation and destruction".

My breath caught.

"They’re not supposed to exist together".

"But they do", she replied.

Her gaze sharpened slightly.

"Inside you".

The space around us flickered.

Silver light surged, then darkness followed. Twisting together in the air between us.

I took a step back instinctively.

"I didn’t ask for this".

"No", she agreed. "You didn’t".

"Then why me?"

Her expression shifted slightly to something deeper.

Older.

"Because you can hold it".

My heart pounded.

"Hold what?"

She didn’t answer immediately.

Instead, she raised her hand.

And the energy between us reacted violently.

Silver flared.

Darkness surged.

Colliding together.

Fighting.

Trying to balance together.

"This", she said.

The word felt heavy.

Felt final.

I shook my head.

"No... this is too much. I can’t control it".

"You already are".

"I’m not!"

The energy spiked in response to my voice as she watched it carefully.

"You’re resisting", she said.

"Of course I am!"

"That’s why it hurts".

My breath caught.

"What?"

She stepped closer again.

"Power doesn’t break you when you accept it", she said softly. "It breaks you when you fight it".

The words hit something deep inside me.

Something I didn’t want to admit.

"I don’t want to lose myself", I whispered.

Her expression softened slightly.

"You won’t".

"How do you know?"

She smiled faintly.

"Because I’m still here".

I froze.

"What....?"

"I’m you", she said simply.

My mind spun.

"No… that’s not possible".

"It is here".

"Where is here?"

She gestured around us.

"This is your core".

My chest tightened.

"My....what?"

"The place where everything you are exists", she said. "Before the world touches it. Before others shape it".

I looked around again.

The white space.

The shifting energy.

"This is me?"

"Yes".

The realization settled slowly.

Uncomfortably.

Then—

"What happens if I choose wrong?" I asked quietly.

Her gaze didn’t waver.

"You already know".

My stomach dropped.

"Everything ends....", I said.

She didn’t confirm it, but she didn’t deny it either.

Fear crept in again.

Stronger this time.

"I don’t know how to choose", I admitted.

She stepped closer.

Close enough now that I could see every detail in her eyes.

The silver.

The darkness.

But it was perfectly balanced unlike in me.

"You already did", she said.

My breath hitched.

"What did I choose?"

Her smile faded slightly.

"That’s what you need to understand".

The energy around us surged again.

Stronger.

Faster.

The space began to crack.

Thin fractures forming through the white.

"No....", I whispered.

"It’s breaking", she said calmly.

"What does that mean?!"

"It means time is running out".

Panic flooded me.

"I don’t know what to do!"

"Yes, you do".

"I don’t!"

Her expression hardened slightly.

"Then listen".

The word hit harder than anything else but then silence followed.

Really deep and heavy.

And in that silence–

I felt it.

The pull again;not from the power.

From somewhere else.

Somewhere familiar.

Somewhere warm.

"Sable..."

My breath caught.

Leonidas.

His voice.

It was faint, distant but felt real.

"Fight it".

Another voice.

Caius.

"Stay with us".

Then—

Kael.

"Don’t disappear on us now".

My chest tightened painfully.

"They’re...calling me".

She nodded.

"They’re anchoring you".

"What happens if I go back?"

She didn’t answer immediately.

Instead—

She stepped back.

Creating space between us again.

"You take everything with you", she said finally.

My heart raced.

"All of it?"

"Yes".

"Even the darkness?"

"Yes".

Fear hit hard.

"What if I lose control again?"

Her gaze softened.

"Then you learn to control it".

"That’s not an answer".

"It’s the only one you have".

The cracks in the space spread faster now while the white was breaking apart.

The energy becoming unstable again.

"You need to go", she said.

I hesitated.

"What about you?"

She smiled faintly.

"I’ll always be here."

The space trembled violently.

The pull from the outside world grew stronger.

"Sable!"

Leonidas’s voice sounded again, closer this time.

I looked at her one last time.

"I don’t want to become something I can’t control."

Her expression didn’t change.

"You won’t."

"How do you know?"

She held my gaze.

"Because you’re still asking that question."

The space shattered.

Light exploded around me.

The pull snapped tight and everything dragged me back.

I gasped sharply.

Air slammed into my lungs as my eyes flew open.

The world rushed back in all at once.

The clearing.

The wolves.

The chaos.

Leonidas kneeling in front of me, Caius standing just behind him, Kael to the side while Zander stood watching carefully.

"Sable...." Leonidas breathed.

I blinked.

My body felt different.

The power inside me wasn’t fighting anymore, neither was it clashing, they just stood still, balanced, controlled but aware of everything.

"I’m here," I whispered.

Relief flashed across their faces.

But it didn’t last.

Because the moment I sat up, the whole world reacted.

The wolves around us froze.

Every single one of them, their eyes locked onto me, their bodies going still not from fear or from hesitation.

But from something else.

Something deeper like submission

My breath caught.

And then slowly, one by one, they all lowered their heads.

The entire clearing fell silent.

And at that moment, I realized something terrifying.

I didn’t just come back.

I came back different.

And this time–

The world knew about it.
