Chapter 115 Chapter 115
Chapter 115 Chapter 115
The Last Light Before Dawn
Sable's POV
"No!"
The cry tore from my throat before I even realized I had spoken.
Above the battlefield, the Spear of the Void hovered in absolute silence.
It wasn't made of metal.
It wasn't made of darkness.
It was made of absence.
Where its tip pointed, light itself seemed to disappear.
The Creator's radiant presence remained calm.
Unmoving.
Almost... waiting.
The Hollow King trembled violently beneath the black
chains binding his body.
I could see him fighting.
Not us.
Himself.
The Devourer wasn't merely controlling his body anymore.
It was crushing every piece of his will.
Lorian's POV
I can hear him.
Leonidas.
After all these ages I can finally hear my brother's voice.
I tried to lower my arm but I couldn't.
The chains tightened, they dug into my soul instead of my flesh.
The Devourer's whisper echoed inside me.
"You belong to silence."
"No..."
"Hope abandoned you."
"No..."
"They forgot you."
For a moment I almost believed it then I remembered a little boy laughing beneath the World Tree.
Leonidas stealing fruit from Eden's garden. Lucian pretending not to notice.
Aster telling stories late into the night.
Someone had loved me.
I hadn't imagined it.
Leonidas' POV
"LORIAN!"
I didn't think.
I ran.
Lucian grabbed my arm.
"Don't!"
"If you go near him now—"
I pulled free.
"I have already lost him once, I'm not losing him again."
The battlefield blurred around me as I sprinted across the shattered earth.
The Hollow King's empty eyes met mine. For the briefest instant I saw my brother.
Not the monster.
The boy.
He smiled.
A broken...
Heartbreaking smile.
The Devourer's POV
Attachment.
Always attachment.
It weakens.
It delays.
It prolongs suffering.
Remove attachment and peace follows.
The Creator's Voice
"No."
The single word rolled across creation.
"Love does not weaken."
"It gives strength where none should remain."
Golden light spread through the heavens.
It touched every warrior.
Every child.
Every soul still standing.
The warmth wasn't power.
It was courage.
Caelum's POV
How blind I had been.
For thousands of years, I searched for a way to end suffering that I never realized love had never promised a life without pain.
It promised no one would face pain alone.
I looked toward Sable.
Toward Leonidas.
Toward the armies standing together.
Hope wasn't avoiding grief.
Hope was walking through it together.
I fell to one knee.
"My Creator forgive me."
The Light answered immediately.
"You were forgiven..."
"...long before you asked."
Tears streamed down my face.
The King's POV
Every soldier watched Leonidas run toward the Hollow King.
No one stopped him.
No one could.
This wasn't a battle anymore.
It was family.
Leonidas' POV
I finally reached him.
The pressure surrounding Lorian nearly crushed me to my knees.
The chains lashed around him like living serpents.
His arm remained raised toward the Creator and the Spear of the Void continued growing larger.
"Lorian."
He didn't answer.
"It's me."
Nothing.
I stepped closer.
"I remember."
The chains trembled.
"I remembered everything."
One silver tear slipped down Lorian's face.
The Devourer roared and he made the chains tightened.
Still Lorian whispered,
"...Leo..."
That one word nearly shattered me.
Sable's POV
The Dawn Flame burned hotter than ever.
It wasn't reacting to the Creator.
Or the Devourer.
It was answering something else.
A bond.
A promise.
A love strong enough to survive even forgotten memories.
Lucian suddenly looked toward me.
"Sable."
"What?"
"The Dawn Flame isn't only yours."
I frowned.
"What do you mean?"
"It belongs..."
"...to every soul willing to become someone else's light."
Aster's POV
Now.
This was the final lesson.
Not strength.
Not destiny.
Choice.
The First Flame had never chosen heroes.
Heroes had chosen the Flame.
The Final Scene
Leonidas slowly reached toward the black chains.
Lucian shouted,
"Don't touch them!"
"They will consume your soul!"
Leonidas didn't stop.
"If he carried this burden alone then I can carry it with him."
His hand touched the first chain and instantly darkness exploded through his body.
The mark of the First Guardian blazed across his chest.
Lorian screamed.
The chains split in two.
For one glorious heartbeat the brothers stood face to face.
Free.
Then the Devourer's voice thundered through every corner of existence.
"Then both shall fall."
The remaining chains surged toward Leonidas wrapping around him and pulling him into the abyss beside Lorian.
Sable's scream echoed across the battlefield.
"LEONIDAS!"
The darkness swallowed both brothers.
And the void closed behind them.
Sable's POV
"No..."
The word escaped my lips as the void sealed itself.
The place where Leonidas and Lorian had stood became nothing but swirling darkness.
I ran.
I didn't care about the danger.
I didn't care about the Devourer.
I didn't care if the darkness consumed me too.
"Leonidas!"
There was no answer.
Only silence.
The kind of silence that makes your heart believe the worst.
I fell to my knees before the swirling void.
Tears blurred my vision.
"Please..."
"Please come back."
Inside the Abyss
Leonidas' POV
Darkness.
Endless darkness was I saw.
There was no sky.
No ground.
No stars.
Only an endless sea of emptiness stretching in every direction.
"Lorian!"
My voice echoed forever.
Then I heard footsteps.
Someone emerged from the shadows.
Someone that was not the Hollow King but my brother.
The boy I remembered.
He looked exactly as he had before the darkness took him.
He smiled sadly.
"You shouldn't have come."
I walked toward him.
"I wasn't leaving you."
Lorian's POV
Even now...
He was the same.
The same stubborn little brother who once climbed the World Tree because I told him he couldn't.
I laughed softly.
"You never listened."
Leonidas grinned.
"I learned from the best."
For one brief moment it felt as though thousands of years had never passed.
Then the darkness stirred, the illusion faded and the Hollow King's armor returned.
The chains tightened around my body again.
"I don't have much time."
The Devourer's Voice
"Hope enters willingly."
"Then hope shall remain forever."
The abyss trembled.
Massive pillars of darkness rose from below as each one carried the faces of countless forgotten souls.
They whispered endlessly.
"Stay..."
"Sleep..."
"Forget..."
Outside the Abyss
Lucian's POV
"The Void has accepted them."
Sable turned toward me, fury burning in her eyes.
"Then open it!"
"I can't."
"Why?"
"Because it isn't a place."
"It exists inside despair itself."
She stared at me.
"There has to be a way."
"There is."
Hope flickered inside her eyes.
"What is it?"
Lucian hesitated.
"The Dawn Flame."
Sable's POV
I looked down at the glowing flame in my chest.
"It can open the abyss?"
Lucian nodded slowly.
"Yes. But if you enter..."
He couldn't finish.
Aster did.
"You may never return."
The battlefield fell silent.
The King's POV
"No."
I stepped in front of Sable.
"You have already carried enough."
She looked at me.
"I have to go."
"There must be another way."
She smiled sadly.
"If our places were reversed..."
"Would Leonidas stay here?"
I already knew the answer.
No.
He wouldn't.
Caelum's POV
I walked toward Sable.
"The abyss feeds on loneliness."
She looked at me cautiously.
"Then don't enter alone."
I extended my hand.
"I owe this world more than an apology. I owe it my life."
Moros stepped forward.
"So do I."
Then Marcus.
"Count me in."
Kael sighed.
"Someone has to stop him from doing something stupid."
Marcus looked offended.
"I make excellent decisions."
"No. You survive terrible ones."
Even in the middle of despair several warriors laughed quietly.
Hope still lived.
The Creator's Voice
"My children."
The Light spread gently across the battlefield.
"Only one may enter."
Everyone froze.
"The abyss mirrors the heart."
"The more souls who enter..."
"...the stronger it becomes."
Silence.
Only one.
Only one person could go.
Every eye slowly turned toward Sable.
Inside the Abyss
Leonidas' POV
The darkness attacked us with memories.
I watched every person I had failed.
Every warrior I couldn't save.
Every child who died in war.
Every mistake.
Every regret.
The whispers surrounded me.
"You are not enough."
"You never were."
My knees buckled.
Lorian caught me before I fell.
"You can't listen."
"I know but it hurts."
He nodded.
"I know."
"I've been listening..."
"...for thousands of years."
Lorian's POV
I looked toward the endless darkness.
For ages I believed no one would ever come but then Leonidas arrived.
Perhaps hope truly was impossible to kill.
The Final Scene
Sable stepped toward the abyss.
The Dawn Flame erupted around her and her golden wings unfolded behind her once more.
She turned toward her friends.
Toward the King.
Toward Moros.
Toward Caelum.
Toward Lucian.
Toward Eden.
No words were needed.
Only one promise.
"I'll bring them home."
The Creator's Light surrounded her and the abyss slowly opened.
A bridge of golden fire stretched into the endless darkness.
Sable took one step forward.
Then another.
Then she disappeared into the void.
The bridge vanished behind her while the battlefield waited in breathless silence.
Far within the abyss Leonidas suddenly looked up to see a tiny golden light pierced the endless darkness.
He smiled.
"...She's here."
Sable's POV
Darkness.
Not an ordinary darkness.
This darkness had no
beginning.
No end.
No wind.
No sound.
It swallowed direction itself.
The golden bridge disappeared the moment I stepped off it and I stood completely alone with only the Dawn Flame burning inside my chest that kept the abyss from consuming me.
Its light illuminated only a few feet ahead.
Beyond that nothing existed.
I took a careful step forward and my footsteps made no sound making it felt as though the abyss refused to acknowledge that I was there.
Then I heard a whisper that drifted through the silence.
"Go back..."
Another followed.
"You're too late..."
Then hundreds.
Thousands together.
"He chose to stay."
"You cannot save everyone."
"You've already failed."
I closed my eyes.
The whispers weren't speaking to my ears rather they were speaking to my fears.
I tightened my grip on the Dawn Blade.
"I didn't come to listen I came to bring them home."
The Dawn Flame blazed brighter and the whispers finally retreated.
Leonidas' POV
I felt it before I saw it.
Warmth.
Hope.
Light.
I slowly stood.
Lorian looked toward the distant glow.
"She found us."
The darkness around us became restless.
The abyss hated her light and also hated everything she represented.
The endless pillars of shadow began collapsing inward, trying to crush the golden glow before it reached us.
The Abyss
The deeper Sable walked the more memories surrounded her.
Real memories.
The first laugh of every child ever born.
The last goodbye of every dying mother.
The vows of lovers.
The promises of kings.
The prayers of the lonely.
Every hope that had ever existed passed through this place before reaching the Heart of Creation.
The abyss had collected them all.
Sable placed a trembling hand over her heart.
"So much pain..."
Then she smiled softly.
"...and so much love."
The Devourer's Voice
"Why save them?"
The question echoed through the void.
"Everything you protect will one day die."
Sable continued walking.
"Kingdoms fall."
Another step.
"Stars burn out."
Another.
"Even love ends."
She finally stopped.
"No."
The abyss became silent.
She looked into the endless darkness.
"Love doesn't end it changes people and leaves pieces of itself behind."
"My parents are gone but their love still lives inside me."
"My friends may one day leave this world but they'll never leave my heart."
"You measure life by how long it lasts while I measure it by what it leaves behind."
For the first time the abyss had no answer to reply her.
Outside the Abyss
Caelum's POV
The silence frightened me.
The battle had stopped.
No swords clashed.
No armies moved.
Every soul simply watched the motionless portal.
Waiting.
Praying.
The Creator stood quietly beside us.
Trusting.
As He always had.
I finally understood why Hope cannot be forced.
It must choose.
Moros' POV
I had spent centuries believing strength meant carrying every burden alone.
Looking at Sable I realized true strength was allowing others to matter enough that losing them hurt.
That pain wasn't weakness.
It was proof that love had existed.
Inside the Abyss
Sable's POV
The light grew stronger.
I could see two figures in the distance.
Leonidas.
Lorian.
I ran towards them.
"Leonidas!"
He turned and our eyes met.
Relief flooded his face.
"Sable!"
He started toward me before the abyss exploded.
Massive chains erupted from below, wrapping around his legs and another set seized Lorian while hundreds more burst from every direction.
The Devourer's voice thundered.
"Choose."
The chains pulled the brothers apart.
Leonidas was dragged toward a pit of endless darkness.
Lorian toward another.
They reached for each other and their fingertips almost touched but then the chains yanked them farther apart.
The voice echoed again.
"Only one leaves."
Time seemed to stop.
Leonidas shouted,
"Take Lorian!"
Lorian shouted at the exact same moment,
"Save Leonidas!"
Neither chose themselves.
Both chose the other.
Tears streamed down my face.
"You idiots..."
I laughed through the tears.
"I refuse."
The Devourer's voice grew colder.
"Then all three remain."
I slowly raised the Dawn Blade. The golden light surrounding it became brighter than the sun.
"I told your Judge before that I reject impossible choices."
"I don't accept a future built on sacrificing love, I'll create another path."
The Dawn Flame erupted.
Not only around me but around all three of us.
The chains trembled and the cracks spread across every link. The abyss shook violently, far above, even the Devourer roared in anger.
The Creator's Voice
A quiet laugh echoed through the darkness.
"There..."
"My Dawn Bearer."
"You finally understand."
The Final Scene
The chains shattered and thousands of fragments dissolved into golden dust.
Leonidas stumbled free.
Lorian collapsed to one knee.
For the first time in thousands of years, the Hollow King's armor cracked from shoulder to waist, a beam of pure light escaped through the fracture while his empty eyes filled with tears.
But then the entire abyss began collapsing.
Not because they had escaped.
Because something far older had awakened beneath it.
A colossal eye slowly opened in the darkness below.
Its pupil was larger than entire kingdoms as it looked directly at Sable.
Lucian's horrified voice echoed faintly across the collapsing void:
"Run! That's not the abyss..."
"...it's the Devourer's true body!"
The enormous eye blinked once again.
Then the darkness rose.
