The university campus was bustling with excitement as students and their families filled the area. Everyone gathered for the much-anticipated graduation ceremony. The air was thick with happiness, and everywhere Elijah looked, he saw smiling faces, proud parents, and friends chatting excitedly.
He couldn’t help but feel a pang of guilt as he stood on the sidelines. As much as he pretended to be her protector, his pain kept pulling him back to reality. He had also noticed that she didn’t invite her father.
His eyes darted from one group to the next, as he searched for Clara. Jasmine was about to walk across that stage and since the danger hadn’t disappeared, she was a walking target. He knew Clara wouldn’t give up, not by a long shot. He still couldn’t shake the feeling that Clara was hiding somewhere nearby, waiting for the right moment to strike. It was like he could feel the evil radiating off of her.
Elijah’s hand tightened on the comm in his ear. His team was spread out, scattered across the campus. Keeping a low profile but prepared for anything. The suspense in the air was palpable.
He had known Clara for a long time. He knew she wouldn’t give up and that her pounce was enough to cause damage. And he wasn’t about to let her ruin Jasmine’s day or their future.
Jasmine, ever the determined leader, gave him a reassuring smile before heading off toward the girls' locker room.
“I’ll be fine. I have a plan. Trust me.”, she said. Her tone was soft but confident, “You find your seat. I’ll handle the rest.”
Elijah’s heart ached at how brave she was, knowing full well that beneath that calm exterior… she had to be as worried as he was. But he nodded, the resolve in his eyes matching hers.
“I’ll be watching. Don’t take any chances.”, he waved.
She flashed him one last smile before disappearing into the building. He stood there for a moment longer. His eyes scanning the crowd, feeling the weight of the world pressing down on him. There were so many variables today, so many unknowns. All he could do was stay vigilant. He couldn’t afford to let his guard down, not for a second.
As Jasmine prepared for the ceremony, the last thing she expected was a confrontation with Clara. The locker room was quiet, the only sound being the faint rustle of gowns as the girls prepared for the ceremony. Jasmine was focused, trying to steady her breathing and clear her mind. This day wasn’t about the past, it was about the future. And she had worked too hard for it to be overshadowed by the chaos of the last few months.
As she finished adjusting her gown, a voice cut through the quiet. It was a cold, mocking tone that sent a shiver down her spine. She didn’t need to guess who that voice belonged to.
Clara.
“You really think you’ve won, don’t you?”, she let out an evil laugh.
Jasmine froze. Her heart racing. She turned slowly, her eyes landing on Clara.
Clara stood leaning against the doorframe. A sneer curled Clara’s lips upward, and her presence was as menacing as ever. Clara’s bodyguard stood behind her, his eyes scanning the room for any threats, but it was clear that he was caught off guard by the lack of protection around her.
“You’ll never be free of me, Jasmine.”, Clara continued. Her voice dripping with venom, “No matter what you think you’re doing here today, I’ll always be a step ahead. You’re mine. You and everything you’ve worked for. My family owns this city, and I deserve compensation for destroying my relationship.”
“Compensation? Just leave, Clara. I don’t have time for this. Your time is coming.”, Jasmine ignored Clara’s threats.
“You little bitch. You think you can just get away with crossing me?”, Clara seethed.
“Actually, yes. I think you are going to take your spoiled rotten attitude and leave. Go tell your family that I am coming for them.”, Jasmine warned.
Clara’s bodyguard started to step forward, “Calm down Tommy, I will handle this. Why don’t you wait outside.”
Jasmine squared her shoulders, refusing to let Clara see the fear she was trying so desperately to hide. “I’m coming for, Clara. You’re not going to win. I have something you don’t have.”
Clara’s eyes flashed with anger, her face tense. She pulled out her phone, sending a message quickly.
“You’re so lucky I have to leave. Duty calls. I will see you on the stage.”, she muttered before turning to leave.
“You won’t see me on stage, but I will see your face on the news.”, Jasmine hinted at her plan.
“Oh, by the way. He told me he loves me.”, Jasmine added.
Clara’s expression shifted slightly. For a moment, there was uncertainty in her gaze, a waver. It was something Jasmine hadn’t seen before. But then it was gone, replaced by cold determination.
“You’ll regret this, Jasmine.”, Clara said. Her voice low and threatening. “I will kill you for what you did. I will kill you myself, while he watches.”
As Clara turned to leave, she raised her phone to take a call. Jasmine heard her mutter something under her breath, something about prepping something under the stage door. She didn’t wait to hear any more.
With her heart pounding, she turned and pushed past Clara, determined to make it to the ceremony before things got worse. Disappearing into the maze of the campus grounds with such speed that it felt like she had melted into the shadows.
Clara’s bodyguard followed her without hesitation. It was clear they had no intention of letting Jasmine off easy. Jasmine was two steps ahead of them.
Jasmine’s mind raced as she quickly made her way toward the ceremony. She had hoped to avoid confrontation, but with Clara’s appearance… she knew the situation had escalated. Clara was getting desperate, and desperation made her dangerous.
Meanwhile, Elijah had just taken his seat in the crowded auditorium. The ceremony was about to begin. He watched carefully as the Dean took center stage, flanked by the representatives of all the founding families of the university. But Elijah wasn’t looking at the families, or even the Dean.
His eyes scanned the crowd, looking for any sign of Clara.
He knew she wouldn’t be far. Clara wasn’t the type to let things go. She had orchestrated far too much trouble to allow Jasmine off easy and she loved a good victory story. He knew she would be lurking in the shadows, waiting for the right moment to strike.
As the Dean began speaking, Elijah’s eyes followed his line of sight. He couldn’t focus on the speeches, not when his every instinct was screaming at him that something wasn’t right. He had a gut feeling and it had never let him down before.
His eyes flicked over to the other families. Each of them giving their speeches, smiling and shaking hands with the honor graduates, but his gaze kept drifting back to the crowd. Still scanning for any sign of Clara or her team.
He got a text, which pulled him from his search.
Jasmine: Sit back and enjoy. This is my plan that I was trying to tell you about.
He was confused. Looking over, he saw Jasmine sitting in the last chair of the row. She was next to the isle and hard at work on her phone. Three weeks was a long time… but a plan where he wasn’t in control made him nervous. He trusted Jasmine, but he wasn’t willing to lose control… or her.
The large screen behind the Dean rolled down from the ceiling. A video montage had started showing images of the students over the course of the past year. The founding families seated as the whole auditorium enjoyed the candid memories.
It was the perfect distraction for Clara to make her move. Elijah was making his way toward the isle when the montage was suddenly cut off. The screen went to static, and the audience murmured in confusion.
The Dean paused, his smile faltering, and turned to look at the screen. He stood and addressed the crowd, “Please bear with us. Technical difficulties. You know how that goes.”, then let out a chuckle.
Elijah had switched seats, his pulse quickening as he felt the air shift. Something was wrong. The static lasted for a few moments longer, and just when Elijah thought the glitch was over, the screen cut to something else entirely.
A video, but not of the graduates.
The images flashed quickly. A barrage of criminal activity, names, and dates. The screen revealed it all. Clara’s family and their criminal empire laid bare for the world to see. The video was filled with footage, timelines, and documents.
All evidence of the illegal activities that they had been involved in. And in the center of it all was Clara herself. Her smug face frozen on the screen as her dark dealings had played out in front of the entire auditorium.
Elijah’s heart skipped a beat. He knew what this was. This was Maya’s doing and Jasmine’s plan. He had never been more proud.
He was unaware that she had been working tirelessly behind the scenes. Gathering evidence and connecting the dots. And now, she had struck at the perfect moment.
During the graduation, when every influential person in the area would be in the same place. The video was a bombshell, a full-scale attack on the empire Clara’s family had built, and it was exposed right in front of everyone.
The crowd was in shock.
Gasps filled the air as people realized what was happening. The Dean looked at the screen, his face turning pale. He turned to the representatives of the founding families, a moment of panic flashing across his face as the reality of the situation set in.
The footage didn’t stop. It resumed, showing more and more incriminating evidence. Clara’s family had been involved in everything, from high-level corruption to organized crime. And now, it was all exposed.
Security rushed to the back of the auditorium, trying to locate the source of the broadcast… but it was too late. The damage had been done. Clara’s empire was crumbling in front of their eyes, and her family’s secrets were out in the open.
Jasmine stood in front of her chair, watching the chaos unfold. She had orchestrated this moment, knowing it would be the perfect way to take down Clara and her family. She had led the charge while Elijah had been recovering, organizing every detail with precision.
As the video continued to play, Jasmine took a deep breath. She had done it. Clara would never be able to worm her way out of this. The truth was out, and nothing could stop it now.
Jasmine turned toward Elijah.
His eyes wide with amazement. She knew her plan had worked, as a wave of pride washed over her. Jasmine had just taken down Clara and her family.
But the battle wasn’t over yet.
