Chapter 66
Chapter 66
"I can see that the rest of you are working hard. I've noticed everything, so naturally I won't say anything. Briar, order a cold drink for every worker on the construction site."
"Remember, send someone to deliver them personally to each person's hands. Everyone gets one, except for Willie here."
Isabella's tone shifted as her sharp, cold eyes locked directly onto Willie.
She raised her hand, pointing at Willie, who was avoiding eye contact, and said word by word.
"We've barely been working for half a day, and you've been slacking off. Not only have you been smoking constantly and talking loudly, but you've also been stirring up the workers' emotions, trying to threaten me with a strike."
"Maybe you don't need this money, but that doesn't mean others don't. Have you thought about how your unauthorized strike means they have no income? Don't you think it's a bit much to use other people's livelihoods to satisfy your own selfish desires?"
"These workers trust you, that's why they follow you. Do they know about your selfish motives?"
Isabella spoke clearly, each word falling distinctly into every worker's ears.
They looked at each other, involuntarily recalling what Willie had said earlier. He kept saying Isabella looked down on the workers.
But Isabella had ordered cold drinks for them and instructed someone to deliver them personally. If Isabella really looked down on them, why would she do these things?
On the other hand, this Willie had indeed been smoking constantly and slacking off. His words earlier did carry an instigating intent.
Willie's face stiffened. He seemed unprepared for Isabella to lay everything out in the open, his face flushing red with anger.
"What are you talking about? Ms. Taylor, if you keep saying things like this, I'll take the workers and leave! We don't need this job!"
He raised his head, seemingly certain that the workers under him would definitely leave with him.
But this time, no one responded to his words. Some didn't even look up and continued working with their heads down.
Seeing this, Willie felt embarrassed. Just as he was about to curse, he was pulled back by the man who had been standing with him earlier.
The man leaned close to his ear and said in a low voice.
"That's enough, let it go! Just put your head down and work. Stop showing off. If you keep this up, you won't even be able to afford food."
"You know how much money we can make from this job, don't you? Are you really willing to just leave like this? Come on, while it's not too embarrassing yet, just put your head down and work."
Hearing the man's words, Willie's face still showed reluctance, but he eventually backed down.
He snorted coldly and pulled his hand back.
"Ms. Taylor, I'm only staying out of respect for my workers."
Briar rolled her eyes rudely from the side. She was really annoyed by Willie.
Isabella's expression remained calm. She nodded slightly.
"Then please continue working. Order a cold drink for Willie, too, just as I instructed before. Everyone must get one. Arrange for someone who works fast to distribute them to everyone."
Briar nodded and turned to order the cold drinks as instructed.
The construction site returned to its previous orderly state. Perhaps Isabella's warning really worked, because Willie kept his head down and worked hard after that, not even daring to smoke.
Willie worked together with several workers under him. At least on the surface, Willie wasn't slacking off. Every time Isabella looked over, she could see his hunched figure working.
She stood with her arms crossed, holding the design drawings and checking the details bit by bit. Whenever something wasn't right, she immediately went forward to point it out and make corrections.
Before she knew it, the morning had passed, and it was time for lunch.
Lunch was naturally covered by Isabella. Hayden had specifically advanced the workers' meal allowance to Isabella.
Only well-fed workers could work fast and well. This was exactly the effect Isabella was aiming for.
While the workers were eating, she returned to her car and drank some cold water, finally feeling like she'd come back to life. She let out a long breath.
Her phone screen lit up, and William's name appeared. Isabella's heartbeat skipped, her thoughts involuntarily returning to yesterday's scene when William brushed the hair from her forehead.
It wasn't until the call was about to disconnect that Isabella fumbled to answer it.
"Hello."
She cleared her throat and said softly.
William's voice on the other end was deep, carrying a concerned inquiry.
"Hello, how did you rest yesterday? Did you sleep well? Did you go to the construction site early this morning? How's the site today? Nothing went wrong, did it?"
"Nothing major went wrong, just a small issue. The foreman here seems to be a troublemaker, but it's resolved now. At least he's working hard now."
William paused at this.
"Do you want me to find you a new construction team?"
His tone carried hesitation, clearly knowing that finding a new team now was impossible.
No matter what, this project had to be handled by this team. Willie being difficult didn't mean the workers under him were bad, too.
They couldn't let Willie alone affect the entire team. After all, these workers needed to work to earn money and eat.
"It's fine, no need. He's behaving a bit better now. I don't expect him to work super hard, but at least he shouldn't cause me trouble."
After a morning of dealing with him, Isabella knew Willie was just a troublemaker.
She meant what she said—she didn't expect Willie to do great or fast work.
As long as Willie didn't cause trouble and honestly got through this project period, she'd accept it.
William heard the weariness in Isabella's voice and unconsciously softened his tone.
"For the construction site work, you should leave someone you trust to watch over it. You can just drop by occasionally. Running back and forth like this is really exhausting, plus you haven't rested since taking on this project."
"Please don't get sick because of this project."
Isabella looked through the car window at the construction site in the distance.
After these people's morning efforts, the building had taken shape. From a distance, it looked exactly like what she'd drawn in her design.
No matter what, these workers' abilities were undeniable.
"I won't. Anyway, it's only a bit more time. After finishing this project, I need to give Briar a long vacation. She's been following me with doubled work intensity, not to mention her rest time has been greatly reduced."
"She's really had it tough, having a boss like me."
Isabella said with a light laugh, and William laughed too.
"What about you? Are you planning to give yourself a vacation?"
It was just a casual question, but Isabella answered very seriously.
"No way. Only after completing this project will I have a real voice in the Taylor Group."
