Chapter 173 Investigating the True Culprit

Chapter 173 Investigating the True Culprit

Clara was overjoyed.

She hadn't expected Amelia to agree so readily.

Then Clara pulled out her phone and played a recording.

It was from a call she'd had with that person.

She wasn't completely naive after all.

"Just do as I say, and you'll definitely get what you want."

"Amelia doesn't love William. You're doing this for his own good."

"Trust me, we both win."

...

The recording continued playing from the phone.

Amelia's brows furrowed slightly. The voice on the recording had a particularly sharp quality, like metal scraping across glass.

The voice had clearly been altered.

Moreover, the phone number displayed was an absurdly long string of digits.

The caller had obviously hidden their real number.

The purpose was to prevent anyone from discovering their true identity.

"Well? Can this recording help you?" Clara asked, blinking her wide eyes curiously.

Amelia shook her head. "This recording only proves someone was pulling your strings. I have no idea who that person actually is."

Clara's face fell with disappointment, but then she fixed her gaze intently on Amelia.

"But don't forget—you just promised me. You said if I told you who made me do this, you'd leave William."

Amelia's expression was unreadable, her eyes calm as still water. "I did say that, but in fact, you've only given me a recording. I still can't clearly identify who made you do this."

"Are you going back on your word?" Clara's voice rose sharply.

After all, Clara had already lost all her leverage in this negotiation with Amelia.

Amelia smiled faintly, speaking with easy confidence. "Clara, I'm not going back on my word—as long as you're willing to cooperate with me."

Clara froze, then looked at Amelia with suspicion.

She'd always known Amelia was difficult to deal with. This sudden offer—who knew what schemes she was hiding?

Amelia's smile remained mild. "As long as you agree to cooperate with me, leaving your brother won't be difficult at all."

At those words, Clara felt a spark of hope.

She could tell that William truly cared for Amelia. If Amelia was willing to leave William on her own, then Clara would still have a chance to pursue him.

Clara felt hopeful, though still wary. "What do you want me to help you with?"

Amelia beckoned to Clara.

Clara leaned forward, and Amelia whispered a detailed plan in her ear.

Clara looked confused.

"Will this really work?"

"Just tell me—are you willing or not?"

Thinking of William, Clara gritted her teeth and steeled herself. "I'll do what you say. But don't forget your promise to me."

Amelia nodded with an expression of complete sincerity.

"Don't worry. Once this is done, I'll definitely leave your brother."

Of course, she didn't specify which brother she'd be leaving.

The adult world was full of cunning. Clara was still too green.

Amelia took back the confidential document from Clara, but after careful inspection, discovered it was also a photocopy.

As expected, the person behind this was simply using Clara. They wanted to use her to force Amelia away from William.

Once she and William had completely split, that mastermind would probably release the document publicly, ensuring Amelia's utter defeat.

It seemed this leak had been targeting her from the very beginning.

Amelia went to the hospital.

Lydia was still traveling abroad and hadn't returned.

Tony had been taking excellent care of Oliver. When Amelia entered, he was peeling an apple for him.

"Ms. Wilson, you're here." Tony's face lit up when he saw Amelia.

Oliver slowly set down his newspaper, his face breaking into a warm smile at the sight of his daughter.

Tony had been taking wonderful care of her father lately.

Amelia hadn't seen her father look so content in a long time.

"Tony, would you step out for a moment? I need to speak with my father." Amelia smiled gently.

Tony immediately set down the apple and left the room.

Seeing his daughter so serious, Oliver placed his newspaper on the bedside table, his expression growing grave.

"Has something happened?"

Amelia proceeded to tell Oliver everything. When she finished, his face had darkened considerably.

The company's current development program was absolutely critical.

This project was crucial for Amelia as well. Once this program launched successfully, it would prove beyond doubt that Amelia had the capability to lead the company.

At that point, no one in the company would dare question her.

But now the confidential document had been leaked.

"Dad, I've always kept this document locked in the company safe. I've reviewed all the surveillance footage. No one inside the company had any opportunity to access it."

In other words, Amelia was suggesting the leak occurred when she'd brought the document to show Oliver.

Oliver paused, then began recalling all the relevant details.

"From the time the document left the company to when it arrived at the hospital, only one person handled it." Oliver spoke slowly.

Father and daughter exchanged a meaningful look.

Tony!

But all this time, Tony had been utterly dedicated to his work.

Especially after he'd protected Amelia, she had treated him generously.

She'd even personally intervened to help resolve the orphanage situation.

If Tony really had leaked the confidential document, what was his motive? Why would he do such a thing?

"Amelia, I actually have a way to help you." Oliver looked at his daughter and whispered in her ear.

Amelia thought his method seemed reasonable enough.

"I understand."

She felt her shoulders relax, as if many problems were suddenly resolving themselves.

After finishing her conversation with her father, Amelia called Tony back in.

Tony picked up the half-peeled apple again.

He remained silent, not interrupting the father and daughter.

"Tony, there's something I'd like to ask of you." Oliver suddenly turned to Tony.
