Yzabelle.
The longing in my chest was too strong, I wanted to ask more about Corbin’s family.
Why did I react like that upon hearing about his grandma? Could it be because his grandma has a connection to my family?
I wanted to go.
I badly wanted to. But when I looked into Killian's eyes, there was a warning. He didn’t want me to go.
Killian may be everything, but I believe he would not wish bad things for me to happen. He used to protect me instead.
And if his shining blue eyes told me not to go, I should not be going.
“Maybe next time, Corbin,” I said at last.
I saw how disappointed Corbin had become. But he still managed to smile at me.
“Oh, okay. I’ll be looking forward to that next time, Yzabelle,”
“There will be no next time, Corbin. I’ll make sure of that,” Killian warned him.
And if Killian was the all serious type, Corbin was the total opposite. He just smiled at Killian and shrugged.
“Or maybe not,”
I saw how Killian clenched his jaw under that calm face he showed.
“So, you are serious about challenging me, huh?”
I quickly rose in my seat. I could feel a tension between them.
“Let’s go, Killian. I thought you were going to bring me somewhere refreshing.” I tried to turn his attention.
I could tell how pissed he was and I didn’t want to make it worse.
“You want a refreshing place? Louvre Town is a refreshing place to go, Yzabelle. It’s the best time to go there,” Corbin suddenly said.
I could only shut my eyes firmly. I was trying to alleviate Killian’s temper and here Corbin, trying to worsen it.
Ugh!
“Forks Town is more refreshing and more beautiful,” Killian roared.
“Oh, I’m sure. But are you willing to bring her there?” Corbin matched Killian’s gaze. And without turning to me, he added. “I can offer a ride to Louvre Town today, Yzabelle. It’s your eyes that I need.”
“Some other time.” I took Killian’s hand and pushed him towards the entrance door.
He seemed he still didn’t want to go and continued his gazing game with Corbin.
“See you around Yzabelle!” Corbin yelled goodbye, it made Killian stop from walking.
Damn him!
I snaked my arm on Killian’s and started coaxing him.
“Come on, he was just provoking you. The more you show you are pissed, the more he enjoyed doing it,” I whispered to Killian.
I knew he had this alpha male character who never accepted defeat from another man. The more Corbin provoked him, the greater his need to show he was on top of Corbin. And it will be a never ending dispute.
I was already tired with everything. It was just morning and I felt I already experienced a lot.
Killian fixed himself and went back to his cold aura. I think I already convinced him not to pay attention to Corbin’s provocation.
“Let’s go,”
And our exit became as regal as our entrance was. I didn’t want this kind of attention. But because I was with Killian, I needed to suffer from it.
If for everyone, it was a luxury to be treated grandly, it was the opposite for me. Growing up alone, I became at ease being by myself and not surrounded with people.
Inside the car, I saw how Killian release a hard breath. He seemed tired of dealing with Corbin. And I was tired of dealing with them.
Killian started the engine.
“Are you not going to tell me where we are going?”
Killian turned to me. “I wanted to surprise you,” he said.
“Can you chill? Your current mood made me feel a lot worried,” I finally put my feelings to words.
Killian continued driving our way out of the mall premise. I could feel his gaze from the rearview mirror. The kind of gaze that burned me. The passion and the possessiveness were all there, glowing as one.
And as much as I tried not to be affected, I could not. His flaming gaze was passionately burning me. And when I locked my eyes with him against that rearview mirror, all I felt was submission.
I wanted to submit into his possessive gaze. I wanted to get burned by his blazing passionate gaze.
“I don’t want you to come near Corbin,” he finally said.
“I thought you were friends,” I answered instead.
“Yeah, before. But not anymore.”
I sighed. “Did I cause you to break your friendship with him?”
Killian didn’t answer right away. He seemed to be contemplating—and picking the right word to say.
“We are not that close. I think we became friends in between the last ten years,” his voice sounded uncertain.
“You weren’t sure?” I wanted to confirm the hint.
“Yeah. But that doesn’t matter. Friendship should be tested by time. And ten years would not be enough.”
“Ten years was already long enough, Killian. You may have childhood friends but you can’t ignore a ten years friendship,” I argued.
I can’t believe he would throw away a ten year friendship just because of a girl. And that girl was me. I suddenly felt guilty.
“Nah! You don’t need to feel upset about that. I’ve thrown a century of friendship before and that didn’t bother me at all. We should outgrew a friendship that wasn’t healthy for us, you know?”
I frowned as I turned to him.
“A century of friendship? Are you kidding me?”
“I’m not,” he nonchalantly said.
“And how old do you think you are? A millennium?” I hissed irritably.
I’ve been all serious here—even guilty—and here he was, throwing nonsense at me.
“I’m older than a millennium. I think a century and five years,” his voice as calm as the river.
And when I turned to him and saw how serious he was, I could only do one thing—dropping my jaw.
With those searing blue eyes, I knew he was fcking serious.
But how was that possible?
It would only be possible if he really wasn’t a human being.
And didn’t he already say that? It was just me who declined to acknowledge it.
But with everything that happened, I wanted to acknowledge it. I wanted to believe him.
“W-What are you?” I silently asked.
My mind was wandering. I seemed to travel down memory lane—from the time I met him to the times unexplained things kept on happening.
He really was… not a human being.
