Chapter 26

Saskia:

“So? Did it calm your nerves?” I asked after his couple of sips.

Prince Killian quickly gathered himself together and built his own wall. His small smile quickly faded.

“Well, not bad. Is this the only thing you can offer to me?” He seemed to hide his real reaction.

I shook my head in disbelief.

Gosh! He really was the proud and snobbish prince of the Lycans.

He seemed to be back to his usual self after calming his nerves.

“Yes. And I am sorry, Your Highness. I lack wealth here. That’s all I have.”

“Great.” He stood up, preparing to leave. “I’ll come by every time I need your tea.” He said and quietly left.

I think I need a lot of stock for my tea for the coming nine years. The effect of my calming tea was temporary, I bet he will come here frequently.

Because I am hell sure, he wouldn’t be able to relax until he reunites with his mate.

Killian.

And that became my usual routine for the next nine years. I used to come to Saskia whenever I was feeling restless because of the fcking mate bond.

Her tea had become a medicine to me. And because of that, we somehow build a good friendship. Though, I don’t want to be indebted to her so every time I visited her, I made sure I left something in exchange.

Uh, yeah. Figures, I am now friends with a witch. And that was something I didn’t anticipate to happen.

But it happened.

And now, the long, agonizing, waiting game is over. It’s the day that Saskia promised to create a portal for me. And hell, excitement was eating me.

“Are you ready, Your Highness?” asked Saskia.

We were here, on the borders of Remus pack, the cliff where Laura took her life.

I don’t know why Saskia chose this place out of all. Maybe it has a connection to the building of the time travel portal. I don’t know. It’s a witch thing. I just followed what she said so we can get this done and over with.

I nodded at Saskia. “I’ve been a decade ready,” I sarcastically answered.

She was making it hard for me to wait and anticipate. Didn’t she know how long I had suffered enough?

Saskia rolled her eyes and focused on her incantations. Soon, the wind blew hard. It’s as if the place sucks all kinds of air and it was creating a swirling vortex. But soon, the wind calmed down. Only the shimmering, swirling vortex of air in front of us was the violent one.

Saskia turned to me.

“Your portal is ready, Your Highness,” she said while spreading her hands towards the portal.

She seemed to be showing me the way.

I frowned at her.

“That’s it? Is it really the portal?”

Saskia arched her eyebrow.

“Yes it is. What are you expecting? A long aisle with red carpet? Sorry, Your Highness, but that is not the thing in time traveling.”

If we haven’t known each other for long, I would be enraged by her sarcasm and disrespectful towards me. But since we’ve gotten along well for a decade, I will let it pass.

“What are you still waiting for? Are you coming or not?”

“Is that even safe? It’s like a tornado lying on its side.”

Saskia rolled her eyes once more. She seemed to be running out of patience.

“It’s safe. Just think of the time you want to travel while coming inside and you will be transported. That is the same thing when you decide to come back. You will be transported at will,” she patiently explained though I knew she was trying hard not to lose it.

I shrugged. “Alright, I am coming in.”

“Wait!” Saskia suddenly stopped me.

“What? I am ready,” I winced.

“You sure are ready. But I just need to say some really important rules to you.”

Seeing how serious her expression was, I bet it was really important.

“Whatever happens, avoid seeing your future self, Your Highness,” her tone sounds like a warning.

I knotted my forehead.

“Why? Is there something significant that would happen if I did?”

“There is,” her tone is deep. “You will die if you meet yourself in the future. So, you better be careful not to run off with him.”

It somehow made sense, her wary voice and dangerous tone. Because it was literally dangerous to see my future self in there.

“Alright, I noticed it already.”

Once satisfied, Saskia let out a deep breath.

I followed her instructions while stepping towards the shimmering, swirling vortex of air that she called a portal.

I think about Laura. The woman who was halfway vanishing and I aimed to grab for the very last minute. I think of her long curly brown hair and the pair of her sad green yet beautiful eyes. I think of her reaction upon locking her gaze on me. I think about how she felt right that moment because my heart was in turbulence upon seeing her.

I think about how I am going to kill her or how I will withdraw my swords that aim to kill her.

I think about her lips that will utter my name. I think about how it would feel against mine.

I am drowning in thinking everything about her and when will I ever meet her again.

And I felt a strong force was starting to suck me towards the vortex.

“Von voyage, Your Highness.”

Those were the last words I heard until suddenly, everything was quiet. It was a deafening silence that lasted for more than thirty seconds.

I couldn’t stand it, I closed my eyes and covered my ears with both of my hands. It was not long before I heard sounds again.

But it was getting annoying as the moment passed by. Chatting people nearby, sounds of blowing horns, men yelling at each other from the street on the other side.

Damn! Where the hell was I?

I looked around and saw tall buildings everywhere.

It seemed I was in the city. It was far from the scene in the countryside, of course. I quickly gathered myself together and tried to focus on the next thing I should do.

“So, my mate is living in the city now, huh?”

I couldn’t help it. I was really amazed that I could really travel in time.

“Who’s mate? This is not the way to a male dormitory,” I heard a soft voice in a grumpy tone. And it was a woman’s voice.

And when I turned around, I felt like my whole world stopped.

‘Mate.’
