Killian.
“Could you explain further?”
Ugh! This woman is trying my patience. Why did not she just say it all in one go?
“Originally, Laura was the only daughter of Beta David and Lovi. But she doesn’t have a wolf so she decided to change her fate…” Saskia explained everything to me in the shortest yet most detailed way possible.
I was dumbfounded after hearing everything.
Time traveling.
That was the cause of everything.
But how come it was possible that I could still sense her after she vanished? How come she was still my mate who was destined to kill me?
It’s hard for me to accept everything. I mean, I Iived a fucking millennium and this is the first time I encountered something like this.
Truly, witches are incredible for they could create a portal to travel in time.
“Then, bring me to the time when Laura was supposed to be born,” I finally said.
I’ll just kill her right there and then. End of the story.
That is what my mind was telling me. But why do I feel different inside? I am now doubting myself if I can really kill that mate of mine.
Remembering how I reacted after seeing her, I think ignoring the powerful connection wasn’t that easy.
Ugh! No. I should focus on my mission. I am going to kill Laura no matter what.
“I can’t do that, Your Highness,” Saskia finally answered.
I frowned at her.
“Why? Are you trying to protect your friend? Believe me, you can’t. I don’t mind spending decades just to find her,”
Saskia shrugged. “Do as you wish, Your Highness.” She sounded like she was done talking to me. “Besides, I don’t think you will be able to kill your own mate.”
“Believe me, I can and I will.” I said with full determination.
But I think my voice betrayed me. A feeling of disagreement was starting to stir inside me. I was only speaking my mind out but not my heart.
Because even though I tried to convince myself to do what I aimed to, there was something in me that was trying to pull me back.
Must be the mate bond.
Geez! This mate bond sucks. If that woman already vanished, why is this mate bond still here?
Saskia was silent for a long time. She was bold enough to gaze at me.
How dare this witch?!
Did she wish to die?
“I can see that you, yourself, have your own battle inside you, Your Highness,” a hint of mischief in her voice. “You can’t fight that. That’s the mate bond that the moon goddess had blessed you. You can’t go against the moon.”
“Then should I let my mate kill me just like that?” I irritably hissed at her.
I hate that she can read minds. She’s the only witch that I can not block the mind reading ability.
What is she?
For the longest time, I hadn’t encountered such a powerful witch like her. She could measure up with some of the heightened abilities of lycans.
“So, that’s the reason why you wanted to kill her. I guess, you lycans do consider seers' opinions and readings.” Saskia commented.
She doesn’t sound mocking though I still felt the need to guard my pride.
“My pack’s seer is great. His readings never failed. Besides, I could not gamble the chance.”
Ugh! Now, I sounded like my father. But that is the best thing to say at this moment.
“In this world full of uncertainty, we could not take things so easily. Fighting to live was just natural for us,” I once again defended my pride against Saskia.
She just nodded as if she agreed with me.
Good thing she does.
“So, are you going to bring me to the time where she is?”
Saskia gently shook her head. “Still a no.”
Darn! What am I thinking? Of course she would not betray her friend for nothing. I should give her a better offer.
“I’ll give you one of my territories, just bring me to her. And I’ll give you the protection you might need in the future. How about that?” I bargained with her.
“Sorry, Your Highness, your offer was tempting but it was still a no.”
I clenched my jaw. I am near my edge.
“Seriously? I don’t believe witches were loyal to their friends knowing she was from a different race,” my voice laced with insult. I aimed to provoke her.
“Then, there’s always an exemption to the rule, Your Highness,” she confidently answered.
What is this woman? I am starting to get pissed off. I hate her confidence! She was as if telling me that she knew better than I do.
She seemed to enjoy seeing me upset over something she considered petty.
And as a proud Lycan prince, I don’t acknowledge such behavior.
“Don’t provoke me, Saskia. You know what I am capable of. Surely you would not want me to be your enemy,” I drew the last straw.
I could not tolerate such an attitude.
“Forgive my rudeness, your highness,” her voice low.
And I think threatening her worked.
Saskia loosened up. She was back to being polite.
“…but I am just telling you the truth. I could sense that Laura’s connection to you was powerful and overbearing. You can deny it to me but you can’t deny it to yourself. You are not after her to kill my poor Laura. You are after her because you longed to touch her, you longed to be with her—”
“Enough!” I angrily winced at her.
Yes, she was right.
My mind kept telling me to kill my mate but my innermost whispered otherwise. And those whispers are stronger than what my mind was telling me to do.
Saskia was brilliant to know how I felt—the feeling that I refused to accept.
As I looked at Saskia, I saw her thin lips breaking into a knowing smile.
“You can’t fight the mate bond, your highness, believe me. You can’t go against the moon goddess' plans for you,” Saskia’s voice was full of certainty.
And I am on the brink of losing my temper. My teeth were clenching, almost breaking. I hate to accept that she might know better than I do.
“I can help you cut the agony of finding your mate, Your Highness,”
For once, she said something that I like to hear. My rage was starting to subside, until she breathed another word again.
“But not now…”
