Chapter 123 The Serpent's Whisper

Chapter 123 The Serpent's Whisper
Alexander arrived at the old docks at exactly midnight. The place was a graveyard of rusted shipping containers and abandoned cranes, their skeletal frames silhouetted against the moonlit water. The air smelled of salt, decay, and diesel. Waves lapped gently against the rotting wooden pilings, the only sound breaking the heavy silence. He had come alone as Lydia had demanded, but his team was positioned in the shadows around the perimeter. He was not foolish enough to walk into a trap completely unprotected.
He stood near the edge of the dock, hands in the pockets of his dark coat, eyes scanning the darkness. Minutes ticked by. Then a figure emerged from behind a stack of containers. A woman, tall, slender. Dressed in black tactical clothing that blended with the night. Her red hair was pulled back in a tight ponytail, revealing sharp features and piercing green eyes. She moved with the confidence of someone who had spent years surviving in the shadows.
"You must be Lydia," Alexander said, his voice low and steady.
She stopped ten feet away, a small smile playing on her lips. "Alexander Blackwood. You came alone. Good. That means you are serious."
He studied her carefully. She carried herself like a predator. No visible weapons, but he knew better than to assume she was unarmed. "You said you have information that could help me dismantle Moonthorn. Prove it."
Lydia tilted her head slightly. "Straight to business. I like that. Kael Evans is not the mastermind you think he is. He is a fixer, messenger, a middle man. The real power behind the operation is a council of elders who have been planning this for decades. They want Maddie’s Silver blood. They believe her child will be the vessel for an ancient ritual that will create an alpha strong enough to rule all packs. They have been experimenting on other Silver descendants for years. Most did not survive."
Alexander’s jaw tightened. The thought of anyone experimenting on Maddie or their child made his wolf snarl with fury. "Why are you telling me this? What do you want?"
Lydia took a step closer. Her eyes gleamed in the moonlight. "I want out. I have spent ten years climbing the ranks of Moonthorn. I have seen what they do to people who question them. I am tired of it. I can give you the location of their main stronghold. The names of the elders. The details of their next move against the Silver sanctuary. In exchange I want protection. A new identity. A place in your pack."
Alexander watched her face closely. Her story sounded convincing. Too convincing. "How do I know this is not a trap?"
She smiled again. "You do not. But I have already risked everything by contacting you. If Moonthorn finds out I am here they will kill me. Slowly. I am offering you a way to end this war before it destroys everything you love."
Alexander considered her words. The bond pulsed faintly in his chest. Maddie was safe for now. But the threat was real. If Lydia was telling the truth this could be the key to ending the war quickly. If she was lying it could be the trap that cost him everything.
"Give me something concrete," he said. "A location. A name. Proof you are not playing both sides."
Lydia reached into her pocket slowly and pulled out a small USB drive. She tossed it to him. "This contains encrypted files. Plans for the next attack on the Silver borders. Names of their human collaborators. It is real. Check it."
Alexander caught the drive and slipped it into his coat. "I will. If this is legitimate I will consider your offer. If it is not, I will hunt you down myself."
Lydia’s smile widened. "I would expect nothing less. Meet me again in three days at the old dock in the east district. I will have more information. Come alone again. If you bring your team the deal is off."
She turned and disappeared into the shadows as silently as she had appeared. Alexander stood there for a long moment listening to the waves. The bond pulsed again. Stronger this time. Maddie was thinking of him. He sent back his love and a promise. He would end this. He would bring her home.
But as he walked back to his car a nagging suspicion settled in his gut. Lydia’s story was too perfect. Her timing is too convenient. He would check the drive. He would verify every detail. And if she was playing him he would make sure she regretted it.
