Chapter 94 Camping
Chapter 94 Camping
“Is this ok?” I asked as I stepped back to inspect my work.
“Um Tessa, it's a bit lopsided.” Maya said as she unloaded the last of the twenty giant bags of marshmallows.
“You think, that thing looks like it'll collapse right now if I tried to get in"
Really, I don't think my tent looks that bad. It's just a bit odd, that's all.
“Don’t mind Ethan, he's just jealous because he has never been camping before like the rest of us normal kids.” Charlotte said as she looked up at my tent. “But Tessa, your tent could use a do over though.”
“ ‘Normal kids’ I'm offended that you think me and my brother aren't normal but I don't exactly blame you though Ethan is a nutjob and a real piece of work.” Ethan just snorted as we all laughed.
“But Tessa the tent doesn't look stable or tent-like, I thought you said you knew how to do this?”
“You bragged on and on about how you,Maya and your parents used to come here all the time.”
“You even tossed the instructions aside saying ‘you didn't need it’. ”
Well I guess seeing my dad set up the tent hundreds of times doesn't make me an expert but still I'm offended, how could he call me out like that even Maya and Charlotte wasn't mean about it while Ethan well—he was just being Ethan.
“Well since you're suddenly a tent expert why don't you set it up Mr know it all.” I said as I picked up the instructions and shoved it in his arms.
“We are going berry picking, right Maya.” I announced
“We are?” Maya said with a mouth full of marshmallows and judging by the wrappers on the floor I'll say fifth bag. Jeez girl we just got here, well an hour ago but still.
Since Maya asked me to make a list of things for us to do as some sort of final summer goodbye, I've begun making a list.
But since Char needs to go back to college for some course registration and she and Jay already had their summer planned already, she swore that he was her soul mate even though it's just been a few months since she and Ethan broke up. I'm happy for her though.
Maya needed to go for some trips due to the intense requirements made by Yale. Though she got in she needs to put in a lot and I mean a lot of effort to stay in.
Ethan, who I'm still surprised is going to Harvard, said he can't spend all summer with us because it'll ruin his vibe or something.
Klaus is still trying to find himself and his purpose in life. He plans on trying new things till something hits I guess.
And I, even though I'm still surprised at how I got into MSA, have a big showcase to prepare for and I mean BIG.
The purpose of the showcase is for the newbies;as we are popularly called,to show this school what we have to offer. It's like a first impression on your fellow students and I really want to make a good impression.
When I suggested the one day camping trip everybody was glad and agreed because we didn't want to break each other's hearts with the idea of not having time for each other anymore. Ethan kept talking excitedly about how it'll be cool if we were attacked by a bear or if a deadly venomous snake bit him and he died slowly. Ethan, am I right?
“Yes we are!” I yanked her by the arm and I was about to pull her through the bushes I was all too familiar with but I stopped.
“Char, would you like to join us to get juicy berries and not share with the boys?” I asked, of course I wasn't going to leave her behind with her crazy ex and my ridiculous boyfriend.
“Of course” she said as she carried three baskets that I totally forgot about, it's not like we could carry the berries in our hands, well not enough for everyone anyways.
We each took a basket as me and Maya expertly maneuvered our way through the bushes and trees till we came to the blue berry patch, well it's more of a berry thicket now. It's been a while since we last came here, we haven't been here since Stella died.
It all still looked the same even the giant oak tree still stood there though with a few more branches but still the same old Oaky. So we named a tree, we were kids you can't blame us.
“Oakyyyyyyyy, I've missed you so very much” she said as she ran to hug the tree though her arms couldn't go all the way around it.
“Oaky?” “Who is that?” Charlotte asked as she dropped her basket and walked towards mata who was already walking round the tree and inspecting it.
“Char, meet Oaky, our tree friend.” I laughed as I also walked towards them.
“Hi Oaky, nice to meet.” she said as she inspected the tree.
“What’s this, it looks like a child's palm print, three to be precise and also some stick drawings, it looks like three little girls.” Charlotte said as she inspected the tree.
“Look there's also a heart shape with some scribblings”
“S+T+M, together 4eva” “Don’t tell me” she gasped “Is that you guys!”
“Yes, well when we were kids at least. We haven't been here since my sister Stella died” I said as I ran my fingers along the tree bark.
“I’m sorry for bringing it up,” Charlotte apologized.
“Oh don't worry about it char, though we couldn't have kept our promise of being together forever, the precious memories I—we have of her is enough and it'll last for lifelines.”
“Come on let's go girls, I have a brilliant idea but first let's pick the berries and head back to camp.”
We picked berries till our baskets were filled. We head back to camp excitedly, there's just something whimsical about being outdoors.
“We’re back!” Maya announced even before we got out of the bushes. Wow! The most well put together tent graced our view. Though Dad's tent was good this was better. It even looked better than the picture on the book cover.
“What do you think girls?” Klaus asked with that ridiculous smirk of his.
“Its ok I guess” Char said
“I’ve seen better,” Maya shrugged. Damn I love my girls, it's only right they support me though I must admit it does look way better than what I did.
“Tessa your finger” I looked at it, blood was oozing from my left pinky, must have been scraped by a thorn on the bushes. It's hard to stay mad at my boyfriend when all he cares about is me.
Best boyfriend ever.
He grabbed a pink bandaid from a first aid box I didn't even know we brought.
“Still mad?” He asked as he put the bandaid on me. I looked away and he smiled.
“Guys, I know what we can do before we start our campfire.” Maya yelled excitedly.
