Chapter 35

In a few hours, I arrived at the location.

A private hall in a five star hotel situated in the heart of London, not too far from the office.

Stepping into the bright space , the lights seemed to shine directly on me, making me feel like I had just stepped into another world. Music filled the air, and laughter echoed off the walls.

I paused for a second, gathering myself before walking further in.

The team dinner was in full swing now.. people dancing, laughing, and toasting to the night. I was a little late, but only by a few minutes. It didn’t matter.

I was here now, and tonight was all about me.

Tables were lined with delicious-looking dishes. I could see platters of grilled chicken, roasted vegetables, tiny desserts arranged like works of art. Glasses of sparkling drinks glistened under the soft lighting, and the scent of fresh bread filled the air.

My stomach growled, reminding me I hadn’t eaten since noon. I pushed through, offering small smiles and nods as I greeted my colleagues.

“Hey, Samantha! There she is!” Of course, that was Nelly, my loud desk partner.

I exchanged a few greetings, smiling at the friendly faces around me.

People were already in high spirits. I shook hands, accepted hugs, and let their congratulations wash over me. But my mind wasn’t fully there.

Tonight, I was determined to enjoy myself. No worries. No past. No lingering thoughts of Tyler or anything else that had weighed me down. I had just closed a huge deal, landed a massive contract.

Tonight was my night.

As I scanned the room, trying not to make it obvious, my eyes searched for Caleb. He wasn’t in my direct line of sight, but I felt his presence somewhere.

And then, as if summoned by my thoughts, I heard his voice from behind me.

“You look… sexy tonight.”

The words hung in the air, awkward but bold. I turned slowly, and there he was, standing close behind me.

Caleb looked different tonight.. more relaxed, in casual clothes rather than his usual sharp, tailored suits. His shirt was slightly unbuttoned at the collar, and the jeans he wore made him look younger, more approachable.

I smiled, feeling a bit flustered. “Thank you,” I replied, trying to keep my voice steady.

He wasn’t wrong.

My dress tonight was different from my usual work attire. It was a soft, fitted green dress, hugging my body in all the right places but still leaving enough to the imagination.

It had a playful, flirty vibe, stopping just above my knees. The thin straps over my shoulders and the slight shimmer of the fabric made it the perfect mix of sexy and cute for a night like this.

I stole a quick glance at Caleb. He really did look good tonight, different in a way that caught me off guard. More handsome, maybe because I wasn’t used to seeing him like this. I quickly straightened myself, hoping he couldn’t read the thoughts flashing across my face.

“Come on, let’s get this party started,” he said with a grin, stepping beside me. He lightly placed a hand on my back, guiding me toward the center of the room.

As we walked, Caleb called out, getting everyone’s attention. “Alright, listen up, everybody!”

The room quieted down, all eyes turning toward us. I suddenly felt a wave of nerves rush over me, but I kept my smile steady.

“I just want to take a moment to celebrate Samantha,” Caleb began, his voice clear and strong. “She’s only been with us for a short time, but she’s already made a huge impact. Her design, her hard work, and her dedication landed us one of the biggest contracts of the year!”

There was a loud cheer from the crowd, my colleagues raising their glasses in a toast. I smiled, feeling my face warm with pride.

“She’s proof that talent and hard work speak for themselves. Samantha, you were born for this. You pulled through, even when things were tough, and that’s exactly why you’re going to go far.” Caleb raised his glass, and everyone followed suit, the room filled with applause and cheers.

I gave a small wave, feeling a mix of emotions swell in my chest.

It felt good.. no, it felt amazing.. to be recognized. The cheers, the laughter, the clinking of glasses, it all felt surreal. For the first time in a long while, I felt like I had finally stepped into something that was mine.

The rest of the dinner flew by. Laughter echoed around me as people mingled, ate, and danced. There was no more tension, no more worries in my mind. I let myself enjoy it all.. the food, the drinks, the company.

She seemed truly happy for me, and I realized that I had completely misjudged her.

Our eyes met, and she smiled broadly, raising her glass in a silent salute.

I returned her smile, my heart feeling light. She deserved this, too. And I was so happy she could be here to celebrate with me.

For a moment, it felt like the whole world was perfect. And maybe it was.

Music blasted through the speakers, and one by one, my colleagues got up, pulling each other into the center to dance.

I watched from the corner, sipping my drink, content with observing for a moment.

Just then, Caleb appeared beside me again, his hands in his pockets, looking every bit as casual as he felt.

“You’re not gonna join them?” he asked, nodding toward the dance floor.

I smiled and shrugged. “Maybe in a bit. I’m just... enjoying the view.”

He chuckled softly. “Well, how about we get out of here for a bit? Grab a drink somewhere quieter, more private?”

My heart skipped a beat at his suggestion.

“Huh?” I asked, the word slipping out before I could catch myself.

I was a little surprised, what was he saying? Grab a drink somewhere quieter?

Caleb was always professional, always keeping things light between us. But this felt... different. Personal. But as I looked up at him, I couldn’t bring myself to say no.

“Okay,” I finally said, trying to keep my voice steady.

“Great,” he smiled, his eyes glinting with something I couldn’t quite read. He looked more relaxed, almost too comfortable.

I glanced back at the party, seeing everyone lost in their own world of music and dancing. It felt like this was a moment for me to step away, to let something new happen.

And maybe... just maybe, I was ready for it.

With one last look at the party behind us, I followed Caleb out of the hall.
