Chapter 74 Chapter 74

Chapter 74 Chapter 74
The cavern shook in a rhythm that no longer belonged to the Ancient alone.
It pulsed with two heartbeats.
Two wills.
Two versions of Aeloria—one fighting to stay herself, the other rising like a storm with no intention of being caged.
Kael steadied himself as a wave of unstable energy blasted outward, rattling his bones. It wasn’t like Aeloria’s power before—clean, fierce, golden. This was jagged, unpredictable, like raw creation trying to be born without knowing what shape to take.
“Aeloria!” he shouted above the chaos. “Listen to me—one thought at a time. Your mind is yours!”
She hissed in pain, clutching her chest as golden light flickered across her skin. When she lifted her gaze, her eyes didn’t match.
One iris burned pale gold—Aeloria’s.
The other shone sharp silver—her shadow-self.
The new voice purred through her lips, dripping with confidence.
“You’re struggling. But I’m not. Let me handle this.”
Aeloria gritted her teeth. “You’re… not real. You’re a fragment.”
“I’m what you refuse to be,” the shadow replied, tone almost affectionate. “Unrestrained. Unafraid. Whole.”
Kael stepped between her and the rift, blade raised, even though he knew it was barely more than a piece of metal in this scale of madness.
“Aeloria, you have to take control now,” he urged. “Before she—”
The silver eye widened, amused.
“Before I fix everything you break?”
Aeloria snarled—an actual snarl, fierce and desperate.
“No. Before you destroy everything.”
Her aura spasmed, and she fell forward on her hands, breathing hard.
Kael knelt beside her instantly.
“Hey—hey, look at me. Stay with me. The Ancient is almost through!”
Almost on cue, a deafening crack split the cavern. The rift widened another meter, and a second limb tore through, clawed digits scraping the air like knives made of starlight.
The Ancient’s scream filled every inch of space.
YOU ARE WEAK.
YOU ARE DIVIDED.
YOU CANNOT SHAPE THE FUTURE.
The shadow-Aeloria’s voice slithered out, mocking.
“Not divided. Evolving.”
Aeloria slammed her fist into the stone, eyes squeezing shut, teeth clenched in agony.
“Get—out—of—my—head!”
But the shadow was relentless, her whispers curling around her thoughts like smoke.
“You keep holding back. You keep protecting. You keep caring.”
A pause.
“Why? For him?” Her gaze flicked to Kael. “He’s not worth the universe.”
Kael went still.
Aeloria’s breath hitched. “Don’t you dare speak about him.”
“Why not?” the shadow murmured. “He makes you hesitate. And hesitation kills worlds.”
Something inside Aeloria cracked.
Kael saw it—the flick of doubt, the momentary tremble.
So did the shadow, who smiled through their shared mouth.
“There. That’s the truth, isn’t it? You can’t save him and save everyone else. You’ll have to choose.”
Aeloria recoiled as if slapped.
“I will never choose between him and the world.”
“Then you’ll lose both,” the shadow said simply.
Kael stepped closer, jaw tight. “Enough. You’re not Aeloria. You’re a parasite, feeding off her fear.”
The shadow tilted Aeloria’s head in an eerie, graceful motion.
“Oh, Kael. I’m everything she hides. Everything she refuses to become. The stronger version.”
“No,” Kael said quietly. “You’re the broken version.”
Aeloria gasped—because that struck somewhere deep.
But the shadow only hummed.
“Bold words from someone she couldn’t bear to lose.”
“Aeloria,” Kael said, ignoring the entity, “you’re not alone in this. I’m here. I’m with you. Fight her with me.”
Aeloria’s golden eye softened.
The silver eye narrowed.
Then the Ancient roared, shoving its torso through the rift. Cosmic fire spiraled around its half-formed body as reality strained to contain it.
THE BEARER CANNOT WITHSTAND INTERNAL DIVISION.
SHE WILL SHATTER.
AND I WILL RECLAIM MY ESSENCE.
The shadow laughed.
“I’d like to see you try, relic.”
A blast of silver-gold fire ripped from Aeloria’s hands—violent and uncontrolled. The Ancient recoiled in shock as the beam cut across its form, forcing it back an inch.
But Aeloria screamed as the power tore through her.
Kael grabbed her before she collapsed, holding her tightly.
He could feel how fast her heartbeat had become.
Two rhythms clashing.
Two minds fighting.
One soul splitting.
“Aeloria,” he whispered urgently, “you’re burning yourself out!”
She trembled, nails digging into his arms.
“She’s trying to take control,” Aeloria choked. “Every time I use power… she grows stronger.”
The shadow voice responded sweetly,
“Because I know how to win. You don’t.”
Kael stood and pulled Aeloria up with him, forcing her eyes to meet his.
“Then stop using power until you take back your mind.”
Aeloria shook her head violently. “If I stop, the Ancient breaches fully—”
“Then we find another way,” Kael said. “But not while you’re breaking apart.”
The Sentinel staggered forward, runes flickering like dying embers.
BEARER. SOURCE.
IF YOU CONTINUE DIVIDING, YOUR SOUL WILL FRACTURE BEYOND REPAIR.
YOU MUST RESTORE UNITY.
Aeloria barked a shaky laugh. “Unity? With her?”
The shadow’s voice sharpened.
“With me—you survive.”
Aeloria’s real voice broke.
“With you—I disappear.”
The Ancient thrust another limb through the rift, and the cavern ceiling shattered, raining stone and energy.
Kael dragged Aeloria behind a column as cosmic debris exploded.
He cupped her face, forcing her focus.
“Aeloria. Listen to me. You don’t have to merge with her. You just have to take back control.”
Her breathing hitched.
“How?”
Kael exhaled shakily.
“You face her. Inside your own mind.”
Aeloria froze.
The shadow purred.
“Yes. Come inside. Let’s talk properly.”
Kael squeezed her hands.
“You’re not going in alone. I’ll anchor you.”
Aeloria’s eyes widened with fear—not of the Ancient, but of herself.
“What if I’m not strong enough? What if she’s… more me than I am?”
Kael pulled her against his chest, resting his forehead against hers.
“You are Aeloria. The girl who saved dying realms. The woman who changed fate itself. The one who stood up to a cosmic god.”
He lifted her chin gently.
“You are enough. You always were.”
Her gold eye glimmered with hope.
The silver eye glimmered with hunger.
Aeloria swallowed hard.
“…Alright.”
Kael nodded. “Close your eyes.”
She did.
Immediately her aura split—gold twisting with silver as two consciousnesses pulled in opposite directions.
Aeloria’s body tensed violently.
Kael held on.
The Sentinel raised its staff, shielding them from the Ancient’s newest strike.
THE BEARER ENTERS THE INTERNAL REALM.
ANCHOR HER, KAEL.
DO NOT LET HER GO.
A deep hum filled the cavern as Aeloria’s consciousness folded inward.
Her physical form shimmered.
Kael tightened his grip.
“I’m right here,” he whispered.
Inside her mind, Aeloria’s world darkened into a vast, shimmering landscape—half golden sky, half silver storm.
And across from her, stepping from the swirling silver mist—
—stood her other self.
A perfect mirror.
A perfect threat.
The shadow smiled.
“Finally. We meet properly.”
Aeloria steadied her breath.
This wasn’t the Ancient.
This wasn’t fate.
This was her.
Her greatest enemy—
and her only path to survive.
“Let’s finish this,” Aeloria said.
