Chapter 96 - The Dragon Prince and His Mate

Dexter

It's been a month since Max has woken up she was able to leave the hospital the next day. Dr Martin gave her a clean bill said she was better then okay.

She hasn't wanted to leave my side since we came home I can feel she afraid. I love having her with me but I know it's not healthy for her she needs her own time to her self even mom has tried to get her to go do things but she refuses to be somewhere I'm not.

We are currently sitting in my office.

Max is sitting on the couch with a book in her hand which is what she does when she's in here with me. I told her to pick out how she wanted the baby's nursery thinking it would snap her out of this but instead she looks at the book or online then tells someone what she want's.

Jon had been keeping track of the hunters they haven't done anything this whole month they keep to the outside of town.

Hearing a knock on the door Jon walks in he give Max a toothy smile she offers him on back.

He flops down in the chair in front of my desk I raise my eye brows at him he just smirks in return. Ignoring him I look back down to finish the paperwork in front of me. When I hear his annoying voice in my head.

"I need to talk to you about them hunters, but I don't want to with Max in here,"

I know why he waited till my head was down Max would know someone was linking me by my eyes.

"Let me see if mom can come help,"

I tell him he gets up walking to Max.

"Hey beautiful what you doing?" He falls to the couch next to her. They start a conversation giving me a chance to link mom.

"Hey mom, can you come to my office maybe bring dad please,"

"Sure dear, Something wrong?" I hear her ask .

"No not really, just a update on them hunters but Max is in my office I don't want her to hear about them, she's already afraid,".

" Say no more, Your father and I are on our way,".

I close the link looking over to Max and Jon I see he has her laughing which I'm glad to see her do so. She been so worried since I first mentioned them.

Getting up I walk over to them.

"What you guys laughing about?"

They both turn looking at me Max face is red from laughing.

"Oh nothing," Jon says," Just told Max here a small joke."

If it was anyone else I would have lost it with how close they were sitting, but I know Jon looks at her as a sister and I know Max has only feeling for me.

Just then my door swings open and in walk my parents.

I see Max face light up when my dad's walks in behind my mom. She gets up and goes straight to him as he opens his arms to her engulfing her in a hug.

Mom walks over giving me a look I nod at her.

"Max we gonna go out to the garden for some lunch why don't you join us? It's better then being in this stuffy room plus you can show me what you have all gotten for this little one," Dad says to her as he places a hand on her swollen belly. Other then myself he's the only other male that can get close to her without me loosing it or him,

I see her eyes go wide then she looks at me. I walk slow over to her she instantly walks to me tucking up against my side.

"Love," I call her softly She looks up at me.

"Hey it's okay, Got with them I'll be right here, it's good for you to get some fresh air,"

I cup her cheek with my hand.

I feel her small hands grip my shirt.

"Hey- hey, There's nothing to worry about, Look dad will be with you and mom you know as long as he's there nothing will happen,"

She loosen her grip looking to my dad he offers her a smile which she returns.

"Okay," Her small voice cracks alittle.

Dad hold his arm out for.

"Come my daughter let me escort you to lunch,"

She looks at me I smile leaning down placing a lite kiss to her lips.

"I'll be right here if I finish quick I'll come join you guys,"

I see her eyes light up at my words.

She turns walking to dad linking her arm with his they walk out the room.

I feel a hand on my arm looking over I see mom.

"She be okay we got her, I knew your dad could get her to go with him,"

With a sigh. "I know, thanks mom just link me if there's a problem, I wouldn't be long and I'll come meet you guys,"

She pats my shoulder walking out she closes the door.

I turn to Jon.

"Let's hear it,"

Max

We were sitting outside in Laura garden they had a small table set up full of different food for lunch. I sat there enjoying the sun I have to admit it was nice to be out. I know Dexter and everyone's worried about me. Since he told me about them hunters I have had this fear that something's going to happen and it's gonna happen soon. This is why I can't bring myself to be away from Dexter my dragon don't like it mostly because he hasn't let me do the marking his dragon is still dormant.

My dragon feels the need to protect her mate. Which I'm not sure how great that would be with how fast my belly is growing. Dr Martin said I could only make it to six months if this baby keeps growing at this rate,

Lunch was delicious every one of my favorites were on the table my growling stomach gave me away.

The three of us sat and chatted we talked about things for the little one. They even talked about a vacation for them two with Laura all healed up and Charles back to himself they wanted some time for them. I can't blame them after everything we all have been through .

Charles almost lost his mate his dragon is wanting to reconnect with hers. I know how that feels I can feel mine longing to connect with Dexter's dragon maybe after lunch I'll try and talk to him again about marking him.

We were lost in our conversation when suddenly there was a loud commotion.

Charles jumped to his feet.

"Laura take Max inside!"

He yelled at he started running to the side of the palace.

Laura was next to me in a hurry I stood fear ripped through my chest.

"Dexter!" I called through the link.

"Max get inside stay with mom!"

"Dexter what's going on?"

"There's hunters at the gate! now go!"

He cut the link before I could say anything else.

Laura held my arm as we made our way back to the door we went in the kitchen side door. She lead me up to Charles office I remember the safe room he had in there.

I stopped frozen in my tracks. Laura turned to look at me.

"Max we need to go it's safe in there you know that,"

"I need to be with Dexter please, His dragon can't come forward he's defenseless,"

She grab both my shoulders.

"Max dear, Dexter will be just fine I promise his father's with him as well as Jon,"

I started to cry while I wrap my arms around my belly.

"We can't loose him, Not now,"

She pulled me along by my elbow slowly we walked into the safe room. She closed the door locking it walking over she turned the screen in the the video to show the office.

I sat on the small cot like before sliding back so my back rested again t the wall I let the tears fall.
