Chapter 55 Danger

Chapter 55 Danger
Kingsley's POV:

Watching Erin push the door open and get out of the car, I ultimately didn't stop her.

The things she said were too hurtful!

As I drove away, my grip on the steering wheel was so tight it hurt.

The streets were chaotic. It was already night!

Erin would be in danger!

But she...

I slammed my fist on the steering wheel and pulled over.

"Damn it!" I rubbed my face hard!

I started the car and drove back. Screw the "but"!

When I returned to where I'd left her, Erin was already gone.

I was extremely worried about Erin. What would happen to her?

I saw homeless people gathered on the street corner smoking weed. Erin was so beautiful. Walking alone on this street was too dangerous!

I immediately drove around looking for her.

My heart was anxious, and my mind began uncontrollably imagining terrible things.

When I finally saw her, about ten minutes had passed.

I was about to call out to her when I saw Kai standing beside her!

Then she happily got into the car with Kai!

A nameless rage instantly shot from my feet to the top of my head. I suddenly felt like a fool for worrying about her!

I couldn't understand why she had suddenly gotten angry when we'd been talking fine before!

I just wanted her to give me time to tell Talia clearly that we wouldn't be getting engaged. She wouldn't even agree to that.

Turns out it was because she still liked Kai!

I started the car toward the castle. The whole way, my heart felt like it was being roasted over coals.

I thought I understood Erin well enough. Her pride, her stubbornness.

I thought she loved me too. That we loved each other.

I never expected her heart still belonged to Kai.

But this man was already engaged to her sister Gloria!

Back at the castle, as soon as I pushed open the door, a small figure rushed over.

Harrison hugged my leg, looking up at me with bright, sparkling eyes.

"Daddy! You're back!"

His voice was soft and sweet, with that innocence unique to children.

"Did you eat dinner?" I asked Harrison.

I didn't want to bring my bad mood to him.

"I did! Daddy, are you going to marry Mommy?" Harrison came closer, his eyes curved in a smile as he asked.

I paused. "Why do you ask?"

"I saw the news. That Mark guy," Harrison said seriously, "he's Aunt Talia's cousin. He did something wrong, so Aunt Talia must be involved too!"

He paused, then added, "So Daddy doesn't have to make Aunt Talia my mommy anymore? You can marry Mommy now?"

Looking at his expectant expression, the irritation in my heart surged again.

Harrison was still so hopeful, completely unaware that his mommy was happily together with his future uncle-in-law.

"Your mommy likes Kai. We can't get married."

I spoke curtly, turning to walk to the bar and downing a glass of whiskey in one gulp.

Harrison ran over on his little legs and climbed onto a high stool, propping his chin on his hands like he was thinking about something.

After a while, he turned to look at me with a serious expression.

"Uncle Kai seems pretty nice too! He's good! As long as Mommy likes him and Mommy's happy! No matter who she chooses, I'll support her!"

"Uncle Kai is pretty nice?!"

I practically ground out those words, the fury in my chest igniting.

"Having a stepfather doesn't bother you, kid?"

Harrison blinked. "I just need Mommy! Before, I wanted you to marry Mommy because I knew you wouldn't let me and Mommy leave. That way we could always be together."

He spoke very seriously, completely disregarding my feelings.

"But I can't be that selfish, right? Mommy has someone she likes. I should support her!"

This kid! Not an ounce of father-son loyalty!

Since he didn't care about our bond, I wouldn't consider our father-son relationship either.

"I promised to take you shooting before. That's canceled now."

"Ah? No, Daddy!"

Harrison immediately scrunched up his little face.

I stared at him, and he immediately understood.

"I was wrong! Daddy and Mommy are the most perfect match! Really! No one matches better than you two!"

Hearing this made me feel much better.

"You should say that to your mommy."

Let that woman Erin know that she and I were the perfect match.

Just as Harrison was about to say something else, the sound of a car engine came from outside.

His eyes lit up, and he immediately slid down from my arms, running toward the door. "It must be Mommy coming back!"

I watched his small figure, took a deep breath, suppressed my annoyance, and pretended to follow leisurely.

I had just reached the fountain when I heard Kai's voice from outside, carrying a deliberate tenderness.

"Erin, if you figure things out, you can find me anytime. I'll always wait for you!"

My steps stopped. There really was still something between Erin and Kai!

Then I saw Erin turn around happily.

Getting back together with Kai made her this happy?

"Take Harrison back to rest," I said coldly to the butler beside me.

The butler immediately took Harrison away.

Harrison probably sensed I was unhappy, so he didn't struggle and obediently followed the butler.

When Erin saw me, I was the only one left in the garden.

After seeing me, she looked away. At least she knew to feel guilty!

"So you insisted on leaving me just to be with Kai?"

"What are you talking about?" Erin was still denying it.

"Didn't you two already agree to be together?" Anger made me lose control of my rationality. I grabbed Erin's hand.

She struggled, not letting me touch her. This made me even more furious. I pushed her hard against the wall, trapping her between me and the wall so she couldn't escape.

"Who I'm with has nothing to do with you, does it?" Erin glared at me angrily.

"Nothing to do with me? Erin! Weren't you just saying you didn't want to be a mistress, didn't want to ruin someone else's relationship? What about now? Even stealing your own sister's fiancé. Are you really that hungry? You'll eat anything?"

Erin didn't answer me immediately. She paused, clearly finding herself in the wrong.

"Kai said he would break off his engagement with Gloria for me!"

She was even willing to destroy their engagement to be with Kai!

"What about me? Erin, you like Kai but still slept with me?"

"A one-night stand! It's not that rare! It was just sleeping together!" She raised her hand to push mine away, acting like it didn't matter.

"Just sleeping together? We didn't just sleep together once! What, Kai couldn't satisfy you, so five years later you're still obsessed and climbed into my bed?"

I knew my words were hurtful, but Erin hurt me first!

She made me look like a fool!

Erin looked at me with hurt in her eyes and slapped me hard across the face.
