Chapter 106
Lillian
I stroked the last item on my budget list, a three-carat diamond tennis bracelet gotten from Italy.
This was the most expensive jewellery in my shop, and yeah, I'm selling it off to the highest bidder. The business has been great, and now I have to restock every Saturday due to the high demand for my exquisite jewellery.
I employed Brenda as my personal assistant. So far, she's a bubbly fellow, hiding the sadness in her eyes every day with a smile. She goes to pick up Frederick by two and then he'll stay at my office till evening.
He was no longer shy around me, always running around, scattering my documents or pulling at my dress when he wanted uppies.
And today was not any different; he was sitting on my lap in my office, sipping on apple juice as we both watched the news.
It's been three days since Aiden's arrest, and the media hasn't failed to broadcast it every single day. Kent Tech was now without an heir leaving the public with uncertainty on who was going to carry on the legacy.
Most article says that this would be the downfall of the company, and it's never coming back up well, except miraculously, Zayden gets released. His trial was close, and so far, Oliver had managed to put some evidence together. We got a good lawyer, Zayden's lawyer and there was one thing left.
Just one thing holding us back.
I had gone to visit Zayden early this morning. We talked about our daughter and then about his father and about him. It ended on a sad note because we were uncertain about how it was going to turn out, but still, I had hope.
Brenda stepped into my office without knocking, her hands carrying a box.
She huffed as she dropped it on my table. I put Frederick down and helped unzip the box.
" What took you so long?" I inquired as I tore open the box.
"The delivery guy had a bad sense of directions and got lost somehow" " she said, wiping her face with a napkin.
" All this box for just a single piece of jewellery? Isn't it too much?"
I pulled out another tiny ribboned wrapped box and opened it. A smile spread out on my face; this was exactly what I wanted.
" It's pretty," Brenda comments picking up Frederick and ruffling his hair.
I picked up the bracelet carefully; I got it for Laura. It was the exact replica of the one I and Zayden had.
That bracelet had never left his wrist...I didn't mention it, but he always left it on him, and now I have one for our daughter.
I'll put it on her once she gets discharged.
"I'll be leaving early today," I informed her, getting on my feet.
" You're heading to the hospital?"
I nodded." The doctor invited me to come over. Besides I need to pick up some baby supplies from the mall."
Brenda had been giving me tips on motherhood. She had taught me how to bathe a newborn using a doll, tie a diaper and how to breastfeed properly.
Learning from an experienced mother was better than watching YouTube videos.
" Alright then. I'm heading back to work."
I gave her a bright smile, she's very hardworking.
I remained in the office for an hour more, finalizing my sales report when I was informed that I had a visitor.
The door opened and guess who stepped in?
The almighty Malo Kent, Zayden's father or should I say the fallen Malo Kent.
I remained seated, I'm not giving him that respect anymore.
" Seems like things are looking up for you." He noted, taking a look around my office.
I'm not surprised he knows my workplace, it's all over the news anyway.
" If you're not here on business, then with all due respect, sir, please leave," I responded, making sure to keep my voice even.
He chuckled, then stepped forward with his golden cane tapping the floor. His strong perfume fanned my nostrils.
No offense but he smelt like wet grass.
"You're soaring high after bringing my family down, Lillian. I've seen your products in magazines. We both know all this is Zayden's money, and his money comes from my company, so technically, all this belongs to me."
I scoffed, my chest vibrating in laughter." Excuse me? My husband, whom you disowned, built this, so you no longer have the right to call what's his yours."
He shook his head." Mark my words, Lillian, I'm going to bring you to dust. And I'm starting with Zayden."
I finally stood up." Are you going to frame him with your wife's death, that's basically what's giving you the upper hand."
He stood straight up." That is the least of what I am going to do. Have it at the back of your mind that Zayden will never get his freedom back, not while I'm still alive."
I swallowed, calculating my words; I needed to push him just like I did with Aiden.
"Zayden barely has memories of how she died. You were the only one at the scene and then all of a sudden, you took him away from civilization. Isn't that too rash for a child?"
He chortled, making his way to the couch and the seating majestically on it." I see what you're trying to do there but I'm not as stupid as Aiden."
I cursed silently, he saw right through me.
" I'm not stupid enough to blurt things out. If you want the truth, you'll just have to wait and find out in court."
A small smile crept on my lips." At least tell me why you hate him so much."
Silence followed for a minute long with him staring intently at me.
He stood to his feet the next second." I thought you would have figured it out by now. You're a smart woman after all."
I played along, making sure to match his energy." I have, I just need confirmation. So tell him, why do you hate Zayden so much?"
He turned his back to me as he walked over to the door.
Placing his hands on the knob, he spoke." You want to know why I hate him so much? Why I favour Aiden more than him?"
He paused, the room dropping drastically in temperature.
" It's because he's not my blood." He spat out and then slammed the door.
His words didn't register immediately until I deciphered the meaning of each word.
Oh fuck!!
It makes sense now. I finally put the pieces together, my assumptions were right all along.
I hadn't told anyone, but I had done my own digging, and what he just said confirmed it all.
We were going to win this for sure.
Quickly I packed my bags and headed for the hospital. I had small talks with the doctor, my daughter was doing fine but still needed to stay in the hospital a bit longer.
I returned home when it was already getting late, Oliver's car was parked in the garage when I arrived.
I stepped into the house to hear grunts and moans coming from the kitchen.
God no!
It should not be what I think it is!
I strolled to my kitchen to find the both of them on my island with Oliver in-between Jade's legs, his pants down and mouth sucking on her tits.
I screamed." Get the fuck out of my house, you whores!"
They jumped startled by my sudden outbursts. Jade's face turned crimson, while Oliver just put on his pants and strolled off with an indifferent expression on his face.
I glared at him as he walked past me but he ignored me.
Jade put on her bra and blouse and got down from the island.
" Seriously? You're making out in my house now? I did the face slap."Jade, please tell me he only sucked your tits."
" You saw his pants down right?"She cleared her throat." I didn't complain when you were making out with Zayden."
My mouth hangs open." What about Nico."
She shrugged." We broke up a decade ago...I've told you that many times.
I only sighed, I don't think I have the strength for them anymore.
" By the way, has Oliver told you yet?" She started.
I shrugged, moving over to the refrigerator to get a can of soda." Tell me what?"
" He's contemplating Zayden pleads guilty, maybe that will reduce the sentence a little."
I paused what I was doing." Plead guilty for a crime he knows nothing about?"
She walked over to me." It's not only his mother's death that he has over his head, Lillian. He killed those men Tyrell sent after you, Tristan and then his mom. Those men can be tagged self-defence while he pleads guilty for his mom and Tristan, then we might actually have a chance."
I remained quiet, my thoughts going haywire." Pleading guilty means we've lost hope, but I haven't. I'll talk to Zayden tomorrow about it.".
Jade only sighed and I left the kitchen.
I went over to my bedroom and took a cold shower letting the water drain all my anxieties to the floor.
