Chapter 105

Lillian

Oliver rushed in, sweat dripping down his face as he panted.

The courtroom fell quiet, all eyes on him. Sage appeared behind him, her eyes glued to the floor.

My blood thrummed loudly as I looked back and forth.

She stepped forward, tears streaming down her face. Oliver nodded at her and placed a kiss on her forehead.

She walked back to the witness stand with the police officers following behind.

"I...I...I have a confession to make." She spoke, her voice cracking.

She looked and sounded hysterical, I could even see how her hands trembled.

" You already confessed Mrs Smith, is that correct." The judge noted.

She nodded." I left out some parts ." She sniffed, wiping her tear-stricken face.

The courtroom fell quiet again with low whispers here and there.

Aiden's lawyer rushed to his feet. Honestly, I find him annoying; he was so desperate to obstruct justice for a pile of cash thrown at him.

" Objection my lord. The verdict has already been served. Besides, she suddenly said she had another confession to make after leaving the courtroom and returning back. The accuser might have interfered."

My lawyer turned to face him fiercely." If a witness says he or she has a confession then it's only customary to hear them out."

The judge hit his gavel on the desk again." Overruled. As long as I haven't left this courtroom, then any confession will be listened to."

I let out a breath that I had been holding.

" Mrs Smith you do know that there will be consequences if Whatever confession you are about to make counters your previous statement, am I right?" The judge stated.

Sage raised her eyes for a before moment to look at Oliver. He nodded at her and then she returned her gaze to the wooden desk.

" Yes, I am aware." She voiced.

" Then go on. You have our attention."

Her lips quivered again, tears slipping down her cheeks. " I'm sorry...I'm so sorry." She whimpered.

Sage lifted a finger and pointed it right at Aiden." It was him. Everything was all him."

The courtroom roared, and at that moment, I thought I could forgive her for everything she had done to me.

" Order! Order!"

Aiden clenched his fists, his face turning red from anger.

" Objection my lord. Her statement is baseless without proof." Aiden's lawyer voiced out.

I scoffed from where I was seated. So now her statement was baseless. It wasn't baseless a while ago.

" Overruled. Let her finish. Go on Mrs Smith."

She nodded, then her eyes blazed." Aiden planned everything, including my pregnancy; I have proof. You can check my call logs and inbox. We exchanged information frequently. He came up to me knowing how heartbroken I was at that time and used that to his advantage."

" Then why did you lie in the first place? You took an oath remember?"

She paused and looked over at her father." Because I was scared, but I couldn't take the blame alone. Lillan's kidnapping was his plan, but I took part in it, and I'm willing to accept any punishment that follows."

Aiden's lawyer got on his feet again, walking over to where Sage sat." Objection! Her statement is false without actual evidence."

Sage looked up at him." You came with my father a few days ago to see me. You were there when he threatened that I speak in favour of Aiden."

The judge hit his gavel on the desk for the hundredth time." Overruled. We will wait while her call logs and inbox are being fetched; until then, you are all dismissed."

The judge took his stand and walked out of the room.

I didn't even realize that a tear had escaped my eyelids. For the first time, I was grateful, and I felt pity for Sage. She was heavily pregnant and still had to go through this stress.

Aiden was heartless. To threaten her even while being aware that those actions would put her in prison for a considerable amount of time, on top of all that she was carrying his child.

How was I supposed to describe such wickedness?

" Oliver, how did you get her to change her mind," I asked as we exited the courtroom.

He chuckled, a sad smile on his face." Nothing. I didn't have enough time for long talks so I just reminded her that I love her no matter what she had done and that she wasn't alone."

I patted his shoulders, the bond between them was beautiful." She's not alone in this."

" Yeah, if only she wasn't pregnant for Aiden."

We remained silent as we all walked out of the courtroom. I badly wanted to talk to Sage, but it was not allowed during the duration of the trial.

An hour later, we were called back in, and the call logs, inboxes and even some voice notes that were exchanged between them were displayed on the widescreen in the courtroom.

I smiled as Aiden glared at me. Let's see what his lawyer has to say about that now.

The new evidence was authenticated, and it was found to be legit. Finally, Aiden was found guilty of my kidnapping and conspiracy and was sentenced to 50 years imprisonment without the option of a fine or bail.

Then, an additional 10 years since Zayden almost lost his life, and my unborn child was put at risk. And then Falco had lost his life in the process.

It all amounted to him spending sixty years locked in the Fox River.

The moment he heard the sentence he completely lost his mind.

" I'm being framed. She planned all of this because wants to bring me down." He yelled, attempting to run towards me in the crowd but the security restrained him on time.

" I should have killed you when I had the chance! I should have killed all of you." He yelled, trying to free himself from the clutches of the security officers.

" I'm the heir to Kent Tech, you can't do this to me. I have a legacy to uphold. I can't spend sixty years in prison, please!" His voice roared." Please, reduce it. I can't go to prison."

The cops dragged him away as he was creating a scene.

Sixty years was a very long time, he would probably be in his eighties before he would finally be released.

What a waste of life span.

Sage was sentenced to forty years imprisonment with an option of a fine. Her sentence would begin immediately after she gives birth.

She would have had a lower sentence if she hadn't lied in court and hadn't killed Falco. She was just lucky that the judge saw her as a young lady who was manipulated by Aiden, that was the only reason she got only forty years.

Still, it was a long time and it only meant she wouldn't get a life. I felt pity for the child she was carrying, they would never get to experience the love from both parents.

We were all dismissed and were granted an audience with Sage.

I held her hand, my eyes brimming with pity." Thank you, thank you so much, Sage."

Tears streamed down her face." At least I didn't get sixty years." She shrugged, letting out a small laugh.

She turned to Oliver who just stood there looking like he was fighting back tears.

" I'm sorry for disappointing you, big brother. I should have listened to you and focused on my career instead." She sobbed and Oliver held her in his arms.

" It's okay. Hang in there for me okay." He placed a kiss on her forehead as they broke apart.

" Who's going to take care of my baby? I don't want my child to get sent to an orphanage." She sniffed looking between me and Oliver.

" You don't have to worry about that. Your baby will be taken care of. You have Oliver and me." I assured her.

She nodded, more tears streaming down her face. My heart ached for her, her eyes were filled with painful regrets.

"Once my baby comes of age, bring him or her to come to see me, okay?"

I nodded at her, squeezing her hand.

She turns to Oliver." Father has abandoned me; don't leave me, too. Promise me that you'll visit me often, Oliver. Please, I don't want to be lonely in there."

Oliver gritted his teeth, fighting so hard to control his emotions." I promise I will never abandon you. I'll come see you every day."

Jade and I had to give them some privacy or I might join them in crying.

" She's still so young. sadly, she had to end up like this." Jade commented as we walked out of the court.

" Yeah, I think she's twenty-two or something."

Jade gasped." Oh my God, that's tough. I can tell she regrets her actions, but she has herself to blame."

I remained quiet. Honestly, I wasn't paying attention. I was thinking about Zayden.

What if we lost the case? Will he get a sentence of 60 years imprisonment just like Aiden, or would he get life imprisonment?

Will I be saying my goodbyes in tears just as Sage and Oliver were doing now?

Tears prickled at my eyelids, The thought alone was draining.

I won't lie, I had been having conflicting thoughts. I was preparing myself for the worst in case something like that happened.

If ever I have to be away from him for that long, will I be able to wait?

I love Zayden, sure. And I knew I vowed to stay with him through thick and thin but I was terrified. It would be too painful with him not being by my side, and I was scared that I would falter.

What if I get tired of waiting? What if I don't remain faithful to him?

I don't know why I was having such thoughts but I was scared. Sixty years was a very long time, I'm scared that I might not be able to be alone for such a long time.

Jade tapped my arm and I jolted back to reality. I didn't even realize that we had gotten into our car.

" I know you're thinking about him but relax, everything will turn out positive," Jade assured me.

I forced a smile.

I should stop overthinking and be optimistic.
