Chapter 148 CHAPTER 148

Chapter 148 CHAPTER 148
Forty-five minutes later, Soren steps out of the private elevator leading directly to the top floor of Reign’s company building.

He nods to the security guards, bypassing Reign’s secretary, who's in charge when Monroe is not available, and pushes open the glass doors to the CEO’s office.

Inside, Reign is sitting behind his desk, looking through a stack of documents, and standing in front of the desk is a man in a blue suit, waving a tablet around and talking a mile a minute, and Soren catches the last of his words.

"We are talking about a complete public relations overhaul, sir. A social movement and campaign designed specifically to elevate Betas in the workplace and society," the man is saying.

Reign looks up as Soren walks in. Soren waves at him with a smile just as the man in the blue suit spins, and the moment he spots Soren, his eyes completely light up like a slot machine... if that makes sense.

"Oh, this is perfect!" the man exclaims, marching right up to Soren with an extended hand. "I’m Mr. Thomas, Director of Public Relations. Since you are here, you can decide for yourself whether you want the opportunity or not!"

Soren blinks, confused, but shakes the man’s hand slowly. He glances at Reign before saying. "What opportunity?"

Mr. Thomas vibrates with excitement. "A Beta visibility campaign. Look, Betas make up the majority of the working class, but they are consistently passed over for promotions in favor of Alphas. We are launching a massive, nationwide initiative to fight for Beta rights in the corporate sector. And Mr. Fox... you have the best face for this campaign. The smart beta who captured the heart of the city's most powerful enigma. You are a literal beacon of hope. We want you on billboards, talk shows, charity galas—"

Soren’s stomach completely drops. He stares at the man who clearly is a Beta, but all he can hear is a loud, ringing guilt in his ears.

A beacon of hope for Betas. Well, he isn't a Beta; he’s just an Omega addicted to illegal suppressants.

If he takes this campaign, he wouldn't just be lying to the public; he would be stealing a life-changing platform from a real Beta who actually deserves it.

"No," Soren says bluntly, taking a step back. "I'm not doing it."

Mr. Thomas' smile falters, but he doesn't take the hint. Instead, he steps forward, completely invading Soren’s personal space. "Mr. Fox, you aren't thinking this through. Think about the good you could do! This is a massive thing for Betas everywhere! You have a responsibility to your subgender. You can't just sit and ignore what society needs. People will look up to you!"

Soren’s jaw clenches, and his eyes turn into a glare.

What society actually needs is to stop seeing Omegas as nothing but breeding tools.

Soren wouldn't have hated his subgender enough to hide if the fucking society was kind to Omegas, and he won’t be here lying his ass off just to stay by Reign’s side.

“I said no,” he says firmly.

The man suddenly reaches out and grabs Soren by the arm to keep him from walking away, and that’s his final mistake.

Reign lets out a growl without moving a muscle; his pheromones spread domineeringly, and the air in the office suddenly becomes oppressive, and breathing becomes difficult.

The man instantly lets go of Soren and steps back as if he’s been burnt. He swallows deeply, glancing fearfully at Reign as sweat beads down his temple.

"He said no. If you ever step into his personal space or touch him again, I will throw you out of this building through the glass. Now, get out of my office. " Reign commands, his voice dropping into a dark growl that almost rattles the windows.

“I’m sorry, sorry,” Mr. Thomas bows deeply to Reign and then to Soren before he scampers out of the room like a man running for his life.

And the moment he’s gone, the heavy and oppressive pheromones in the office immediately recede.

Soren smiles immediately and heads towards the Enigma, but the man brings his hand to rub against his temple, sighing in exhaustion. Soren rarely sees the man tired, but it's a good thing he knows how to give massages.

He walks behind Reign’s seat and gently places his hands against his temple.

Reign jerks a little.

“Stay still,” Soren orders and forces the man in place. Reign sneers and lets the Omega do whatever he wants.

“Tell me about your day, darling?” Reign inquires gently.

"I had lunch with your mother today," Soren says flatly.

Reign nods. “What did she want?”

Soren rolls his eyes as he recalls the words the woman vomited. "She reminded me that we’ve been engaged for a year. And then she went out of her way to remind me that, as a Beta, I am genetically useless to you when it comes to producing an heir. And then she told me that I should just step aside and let you take an Omega. She said she already has someone picked out. A purebred Omega."

An amused chuckle leaves Reign’s lips. “She always comes up with the most absurd ideas to get what she wants. You didn't listen to her, did you, petal?”

“Of course not. An Enigma can get a Beta pregnant; I'm not totally useless,” Soren says proudly, but still her words echo loudly in his head. Slowly, he moves down to whisper in the man’s ear.

“Tell me, Reign, how soon do you want an heir?”

Reign smirks at the tease behind the Omega’s tone. His little liar is getting pretty bold.
