Chapter 115 Concerns
Chapter 115 Concerns
Grep.
Xavier threw himself forward and immediately wrapped his arms around Agatha. He buried his face in the crook of her neck. His breathing was rapid, uneven, and hot against her skin. Xavier’s hands trembled violently as he pressed Agatha against him, acting as if he wanted to merge her body with his own.
"Agatha. Oh, God. Agatha," Xavier murmured repeatedly.
Agatha stumbled back from the sudden force of the impact. She rested her hands on Xavier’s shoulders to keep her balance. The scent of sweat and expensive cologne clinging to his body filled her senses.
"Xavier, I can't breathe. You are holding me too tight," Agatha said. Her voice sounded weak.
Xavier loosened his grip slightly, but his hands remained protectively on her waist. His bloodshot eyes scanned her entire body from head to toe. He saw the dark, thick bloodstains on her cream-colored cloak.
"You are bleeding? Where is the wound? Talk to me!" Xavier cried out. His face was deathly pale.
Before Agatha could answer, Don Cardios arrived at their side. The old man pointed his cane at the bodies scattered across the gravel.
"What happened? How did these rats penetrate the rear security? Agatha, do you feel any cramping? Are you hurt? Answer me, child!" Cardios bombarded her with questions without a pause.
Agatha let out a long breath. She glanced at Frans, who was standing a yard behind her. Frans looked like he wanted to speak. He opened his mouth and moved his hands to offer an explanation.
"Don, actually..."
"Shut up, Frans! I was not talking to you! How could you let my granddaughter be put in danger like this? You are useless!" Cardios cut him off, his voice thundering.
Frans went silent immediately. He lowered his hands and could only gape. He turned toward Xavier, hoping for a defense or at least an ear. Xavier, however, was busy inspecting Agatha’s palms, looking for even the smallest scratch.
"Xavier, listen. I am not hurt," Agatha said, trying to calm her husband.
"Then this blood? Whose blood is it, Agatha? Do not lie to me!" Xavier’s voice rose, fueled by a panic that had yet to subside.
"It is theirs. I did it," Agatha replied flatly.
Xavier froze. He stared at his wife in disbelief. Cardios went still as well. Both men turned simultaneously to look at the four lifeless men, each bearing precise wounds in lethal spots.
"You? With a belly this size?" Cardios asked. His eyes were wide.
Agatha snorted. She felt her feet begin to throb with pain again. "Why does everyone doubt me? I am pregnant, not paralyzed."
"Still, Agatha! You could have endangered the babies and yourself!" Xavier began to lecture her again.
"Enough!"
A cold, firm voice rang out from the rear door of the estate. Melynda stood there calmly. Her apron was still clean, though she held a large kitchen knife in her right hand. She surveyed the chaotic scene in the garden without a trace of fear.
Melynda approached. She walked past the bodies without a spare glance. As the wife of a high-ranking organization leader, the sight of blood was nothing new. Concern was only visible in the faint creases on her brow when she looked at Agatha.
"Stop your ridiculous arguing. Can you not see she is pale with exhaustion?" Melynda said. She looked between Xavier and Cardios with a sharp gaze.
"Mother, there was an attack here," Xavier said.
"I know. I have ears," Melynda replied shortly. She pressed the back of her hand to Agatha’s forehead. "Your temperature is normal, but your breathing is too fast. Xavier, take your wife to her room now. Do not let her stand out in the falling night air."
Xavier did not argue. He immediately slid his arms under Agatha’s knees and back.
"Ugh, Xavier. I can walk," Agatha protested.
"Be quiet. I do not want to hear another complaint," Xavier answered. He lifted her body with care.
Melynda turned to Frans, who was still standing like a statue. "Frans."
"Yes, Madam?" he replied quickly.
"Stop gaping like a fool. Contact Pierre right now. Tell him to be here in five minutes. Tell him it is a medical emergency for Agatha."
"Yes, Madam," Frans reached for his phone and ran off.
Melynda turned back to Cardios. "Don Cardios, have your men clear this trash. I do not want the smell of carcasses when I serve dinner. I am going to finish the meal."
Cardios gave a slight nod. He signaled his guards to take action. Melynda turned and walked back into the kitchen with an elegant stride, as if nothing extraordinary had happened.
Inside the room, Xavier laid Agatha on the bed very slowly. He pulled the covers up to her chest. He kept hold of her hand, refusing to let go for even a second.
Brak!
The bedroom door swung open. Pierre entered with his medical bag. His breath hitched from being forced to run by Frans.
"Where? Where does it hurt?" Pierre asked quickly. He immediately pulled out his stethoscope.
"Check her, Pierre. There was an attack," Xavier urged.
Agatha could only submit as Pierre began the examination. The doctor placed a monitor against her large belly. The room fell silent. Only the rhythmic sound of heartbeats could be heard from the device.
Dug. Dug. Dug.
Pierre listened intently for several minutes. He moved the device to three different spots on her stomach. Afterward, he checked her blood pressure and her pupils.
"Well?" Xavier asked impatiently.
Pierre let out a sigh of relief. He took the stethoscope from his ears. "Thank goodness. Everything is fine. The heartbeats of all three babies are normal and strong. There are no signs of physical trauma to the womb."
Xavier sat down in the chair beside the bed. He covered his face with both hands. His shoulders rose and fell as he tried to manage his emotions.
"Your blood pressure is a little high from the adrenaline, Madam. But that is expected after what you went through," Pierre continued. He looked at Agatha with a mix of admiration and horror. "Frans told me a bit outside. You are truly insane to fight in this condition."
"They started it," Agatha replied simply.
"You must have total bed rest tonight. Do not get out of bed for any reason. Madam Melynda will bring your food here." Pierre began packing his tools.
Xavier looked up. His eyes searched Agatha’s with an unreadable expression. There was anger, but even more gratitude. He kissed her forehead for a long time.
"Thank you for holding on," Xavier whispered.
Pierre walked toward the door, but he stopped for a moment. He turned back to Xavier with a serious expression.
