Chapter 83
Charlotte's head snapped up.
So this was his move—a direct threat.
Her gaze locked onto Alexander’s face, lingering there as if trying to reconcile two different people..
That's right, this was the same face that seven years ago had knelt before her with a wedding ring, publicly vowing to love and protect her for life.
For the sake of another woman, he had turned into someone she barely recognized..
“Alexander,” she said, her voice cold and cutting, “you’re truly disgusting. Using Jenna to threaten me?”
Alexander's eyes were ice-cold. "Who told you not to cooperate? This is your punishment."
"Punishment?" Looking at the terrifyingly unfamiliar man before her, Charlotte suddenly let out a soft laugh. "But don't forget, I have the six million-plus that Landon gave me. If I'm careful with it, that's enough to support Jenna for life."
Not expecting Charlotte to be so stubborn, Alexander had to play his trump card.“Fine,” he said sharply. “Then don’t expect me to sign the divorce papers in twenty-six days.”
For a split second, fury flashed across Charlotte’s face—but it didn’t last. Instead, something shifted..
"That's fine. I have plenty of time anyway. Worst case, I'll just file for divorce through the court."
"Only then, news of our divorce will probably spread all over River City. And at that point, I'm afraid the Forbes Group's stock price..."
Alexander's expression turned fierce. "You wouldn't dare!"
"Why wouldn't I dare?"
Charlotte didn't back down at all. Instead, she stepped forward. "When that happens, I'll make a scene every day, making sure you and Sabrina have no peace, making sure you're both cursed at every day!"
Seeing Alexander's face turn livid with anger, Charlotte smiled happily.“When that day comes, I’ll make sure there’s not a single peaceful moment for you and Sabrina. I’ll drag this out publicly—every single day—until both of you are cursed wherever you go.”
Alexander held his breath. "Charlotte, you dare threaten me?"
Looking at the man before her, beside himself with rage, Charlotte's eyes were full of contempt. "I learned from you."
Alexander’s chest rose sharply. “Charlotte, are you threatening me?” She met his anger with pure indifference.“I learned from you.”
Charlotte's face carried a sense of indifference.
Suddenly, she glanced at the time. "Oh, sorry, five minutes are up."
With that, she turned around and walked toward Jenna and Philip without looking back.
Unwilling to give up, Alexander was about to chase after her when his phone rang.
"Alexander, come back quickly!"
"Sabrina just woke up and couldn't find you, and she's started crying again."
Hearing Calvin's anxious voice on the phone, Alexander's heart jumped. He couldn't worry about Charlotte anymore and hurried away.
Seeing Alexander leave, Jenna tugged at Charlotte's sleeve. "What did he say to you just now?"
Charlotte didn't want Jenna to know that Alexander had threatened her using Jenna, so she just said, "He wants me to publicly clear Sabrina's name."
Jenna eyes widened. "You didn't agree, did you?"
Charlotte gave a small, knowing smile. “Do I look that easy to manipulate?”
Only then did Jenna relax, letting out a breath of relief.
The three of them continued walking, but soon they stopped again.
It wasn't that Alexander had reappeared, but rather a crowd had gathered in the nearby park, enthusiastically discussing Sabrina's online scandal.
“Unbelievable! She’s even scamming elderly people?”
"Come on, she dared to steal her sister's husband. What wouldn't she do?"
“That kind of woman is capable of anything. I wouldn’t be surprised if that man really pushed Charlotte into traffic for her.”
"If you ask me, that Alexander isn't any good either. Always protecting Sabrina, completely ignoring his own wife."
"Sigh, the most pitiful one is still Alexander's wife. Not only is she neglected by her husband, but she also gets cyberbullied."
“I knew from the start Sabrina was fake, but no one listened!” you all wouldn't believe me! Now you're eating your words, aren't you?"
"We can only blame Sabrina's acting skills for being too good. She fooled all of us."
The more Jenna listened, the happier she got. She simply walked over and joined the discussion.
Seeing how absorbed she was, Charlotte didn’t interrupt. Instead, Charlotte simply took Philip to find a bench and sat down to wait from a distance.
But she didn't sit idle either. She and Philip put their heads together and started scrolling through online posts.
At first, she read with great interest, but soon she frowned.
This poster named Candy claimed to be her high school classmate? And had even posted several photos of her with classmates from high school?
No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t recall anyone by that name.
In the end, she had to give up.
Meanwhile, Alexander rushed back to the hospital as fast as he could.
After calming Sabrina down once again, he didn't dare leave anymore and simply stayed at the hospital to watch over Sabrina all night.
The next day, Sabrina's test results came back.
There were no serious issues—for now—but the doctor warned that she must avoid emotional distress.
Only then did Alexander relax a bit. After instructing Calvin to watch over Sabrina carefully, he returned to the company to handle business.
But before he'd finished dealing with the backlog of documents, his assistant rushed in.“Mr. Forbes, a wave of videos mocking Ms. Spencer has flooded the internet. The PR team can’t suppress them at all.”
Alexander's eyes turned cold. "Didn't I tell you to spend money to manipulate public opinion? How can you still not suppress it?"
The assistant looked panicked. “Every time we try, the backlash gets worse. The netizens completely overpower us.”
Alexander snapped, "Spend more money! I refuse to believe there's something money can't fix!"
Watching the assistant's dejected figure leave, Alexander could no longer contain his inner frustration.
He stood up, walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, and yanked at his tie!
Someone was pulling the strings behind the scenes. Someone was helping Charlotte.
Suddenly, his phone rang.
He let out a long breath and resignedly turned to pick up his phone.
Calvin? Could something have happened to Sabrina again?
He quickly answered the call...
