Chapter 50
Alexander was about to grit his teeth and take the blow when Sabrina suddenly rushed in front of him. "Mrs. Forbes, it's all my fault. If you want to hit someone, hit me."
Nicole froze, her cane stopping mid-air. "Miss Spencer, this is our family matter and none of your business. Please step aside."
But Sabrina stood firm, still spreading her arms protectively in front of Alexander. "Mrs. Forbes, you can hit me or scold me. I'll take it for Alexander."
Nicole looked deeply at Sabrina, then suddenly calmed her anger and tappedher cane on the ground. "Move aside."
Sabrina wanted to say more, but Alexander pulled her behind him. "Grandma, let me explain. Sabrina is fully qualified to be the group's design director..."
"Shut up!" Nicole glared at Alexander. "Come with me."
Sabrina tugged at Alexander's sleeve worriedly. He patted her hand to reassure her, then followed Nicole to the side.
"Grandma—" Alexander had just stopped when, before he could speak, he received a heavy slap across the face!
Cynthia was so shocked that she immediately rushed over to support Alexander. "Alexander, are you okay? Does it hurt?"
She turned to Nicole with a hurt expression. "Mom, how could you hit him without asking what happened first?"
Sabrina also came over, looking distressed as she checked Alexander's face.
Seeing this scene, Nicole's hand trembled with anger as she pointed at Alexander. "Alexander! You're still being all cozy with Sabrina right now? Do you even remember what day it is?"
Alexander pushed down Sabrina's hand and frowned. "What day is it?"
A flash of disappointment crossed Nicole's face. "Today is Charlotte's mother's death anniversary!"
Alexander's expression shifted slightly, but in doing so, he missed Sabrina's guilty look.
Nicole tapped her cane heavily on the ground. "A few days ago, I specifically called to remind you, and you promised, but..."
"Wait," Alexander suddenly interrupted. "Grandma, you called me? But I never got a call from you."
Nicole glared at him indignantly. "That's impossible! I definitely called you myself."
Seeing that explaining wouldn't work, Alexander simply reached for his phone...
But Sabrina suddenly pressed down on his hand and gently shook her head. "Alexander, Mrs. Forbes is getting old. Maybe she remembered wrong."
"But she can't handle being upset, so you should just go along with her for now."
Alexander nodded and put his phone back. "Grandma, it's all my fault. I got busy with work and forgot."
Only then did Nicole snort' "Good that you know. But you need to go apologize to Charlotte right away. If you make her angry, I won't let you off!"
Alexander nodded repeatedly. "Okay, I understand. I'll go apologize to her right now."
Then Elara came forward very obediently to help Nicole to the sofa. "Grandma, come have some water first and calm down. Later I'll help you give Alexander a good scolding."
Only then did Nicole nod with satisfaction, letting Elara help her over.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
And where no one could see, Sabrina let out a long breath.
That was close!
Damn, Nicole almost exposed her scheme.
Meanwhile, Landon had already driven Charlotte back to her apartment building.
But as she was getting out, he suddenly asked, "I don't have plans tonight. How about we go out for dinner?"
Philip immediately clapped in agreement. "Yes! I haven't had dinner with Dad in so long."
They'd just had dinner together a few days ago. How was that "so long"?
Besides, Charlotte had already prepared food before going to the cemetery. Wouldn't it be a waste not to eat it?
But most importantly, she'd always felt a strange sense of awe toward Landon since childhood...
Seeming to sense Charlotte's hesitation, Landon patted Philip's head but raised an eyebrow at Charlotte. "Looks like Charlotte doesn't really want to go out for dinner."
Seeing Philip's disappointed look, Charlotte's heart softened, and she blurted out. "Actually, I already prepared food. It would be a waste not to eat it."
As soon as Charlotte finished speaking, Landon immediately agreed. "Then why don't we eat at your place tonight?"
Philip also clapped excitedly. "Dad, let me tell you, Charlotte's cooking is really delicious."
Landon patted Philip's head. "Really? Then I'm in for a treat tonight."
He finished speaking and looked at Charlotte with a smile.
Watching them, Charlotte was speechless.
But if she tried to take back her words now, she couldn't quite bring herself to do it.
After all, Landon had just taken Philip to pay respects to Lynn. One meal to repay that favor—when she thought about it, she was still coming out ahead.
Moments later, looking at the apartment that, though not large, was decorated warmly, and smelling the delicious aromas wafting from the kitchen, a flash of envy quickly crossed Landon's handsome face...
What should he do? He was actually a bit envious of Philip.
When the food was served, Landon regretted his past decision even more.
If he'd known Charlotte's cooking was this good, he should have set aside his concerns back then and had her move into his house.
But regretting it now seemed a bit late.
Thinking of this, he couldn't help but secretly glare at Philip, who was happily eating with his head down...
After finally seeing Landon off, Charlotte cleaned up the table and then pulled Philip into the study.
"Charlotte, are you going to make me clothes?"
Seeing Charlotte carefully taking his measurements, Philip immediately guessed the reason.
Charlotte affectionately tapped his forehead. "You're so smart."
After taking the measurements, Charlotte immediately marked the data on her design sketch.
Philip stood beside her, looking at the design and exclaiming, "Is this the outfit you designed for me? It's so beautiful!"
Looking at the smiling Philip, Charlotte couldn't help but smile warmly.
However, she soon remembered something from a few months ago.
For Owen's fifth birthday, she wanted to personally design a birthday outfit for him, but before she could finish the clothes, she heard him secretly calling Sabrina, who had just returned to the country a month earlier. "Sabrina, my mom wants me to wear the dress she made for my birthday party!"
So the next day, Sabrina came.
Right in front of her, Alexander, Owen, and Sabrina worked together and quickly decided that Sabrina would design Owen's birthday party outfit.
At the time, Charlotte said nothing, but inside she felt like someone had stabbed her in the heart!
"Charlotte, what are you thinking about?"
The crisp voice interrupted Charlotte's memories. She gently pinched Philip's soft little face. "Do you want to win first place in the competition?"
Philip nodded vigorously. "Yes! I want to beat Owen and Sabrina."
"Good, we'll work hard together."
When Charlotte left, Philip secretly made a phone call.
