Chapter 49

Chapter 49

Charlotte clicked on the link.

It was the Forbes Group's official account, currently live-streaming the welcome ceremony for the Forbes Group's new Design Director.

The atmosphere in the video was lively, with Forbes Group employees surrounding Sabrina, Alexander, and Owen, as they cheered nonstop.

Perhaps to better protect Sabrina, Alexander stood extremely close to her, shoulder to shoulder.

Although Charlotte had long been disappointed in Alexander, seeing this scene still felt somewhat jarring.

She suddenly remembered that during their seven years of marriage, Alexander had always claimed he was too busy with work and rarely accompanied her out, let alone appeared with her in public.

On the rare occasions they went shopping together, he always said he needed to maintain his image, so whenever she unconsciously moved closer to whisper something to him, he would quickly and subtly pull away.

However, she never doubted him or felt the slightest dissatisfaction. Instead, she was very understanding.

But it wasn't until Sabrina returned that she realized he simply didn't want to accept her closeness.

Still, no matter what, he shouldn't have chosen today to hold a welcome ceremony for Sabrina.

Because the day before their wedding, Alexander had specially accompanied her to pay respects to Lynn, and even vowed before Lynn's tombstone that he would accompany her to the cemetery every year.

But unexpectedly, only seven years had passed, and she was the only one left visiting the grave.

So his words were just words—you could listen, but you couldn't take them seriously.

While Charlotte was lost in thought, Jenna's voice rang out again: "He actually forgot such an important day? Alexander is such a jerk!"

"If I'd known, I would've come to keep you company instead."

Hearing Jenna's indignation, Charlotte smiled indifferently: "Actually, it's nice for me to talk quietly with Mom by myself."

But Jenna was still worried: "Wait there, I'm coming to find you right now."

Charlotte declined: "No need, I'll be heading back soon."

Jenna had no choice but to give up reluctantly.

After hanging up, Charlotte bent down to pack up her things and prepare to leave, when suddenly she heard footsteps behind her...

The Forbes family's old house.

Nicole was in a rare good mood, pruning her beloved potted plants alone in the garden, when she suddenly heard a car. It turned out Elara and Cynthia had returned from their outing.

The two got out of the car, chatting happily as they walked.

Elara: "Mom, wasn't today's Forbes Group video great? Now Charlotte should finally give up."

Cynthia's tone was full of disapproval: "You mean Sabrina? I really don't understand why Alexander insists on getting involved with the Spencer family women."

Elara: "Mom, Sabrina is different. She's a top student who graduated from a prestigious foreign university! Charlotte can't even compare to her."

"Otherwise, Alexander wouldn't have asked her to be the Forbes Group's Design Director and specially held such a grand welcome ceremony for her today..."

"Elara, say what you just said again!"

Elara was speaking excitedly when she was suddenly interrupted by a stern shout.

She turned to look and her face immediately paled: "Grandma..."

Cynthia shot Elara a dark look and quickly put on a smile: "Mom, Elara didn't say anything."

Nicole tapped her cane: "Shut up, I wasn't asking you."

Cynthia's expression changed, and she secretly rolled her eyes, but ultimately didn't dare say anything more.

Elara sneaked a glance at Cynthia, and seeing that her grandmother had scared her into not speaking up for her anymore, couldn't help feeling a bit resentful.

Nicole had always favored Charlotte, treating her even more affectionately than Elara!

Just as she was grumbling to herself, Nicole suddenly tapped her cane heavily again: "Speak!"

Elara's legs went weak on the spot: "Alexander held a welcome ceremony for Sabrina today..."

Seeing Nicole's eyes widen, Elara hurriedly explained: "Grandma, this was entirely Alexander's decision, it has nothing to do with me..."

Meanwhile, Nicole was already trembling with anger: "That bastard! Go get him back here."

Elara was startled and quickly pulled out her phone: "Grandma, don't be angry, I'll call Alexander right now..."

The cemetery.

Charlotte was slightly surprised: "Landon, Philip, what brings you here?"

Landon stood with his hands in his pockets, looking at her, his peach-blossom eyes narrowing slightly: "Ms. Talbot was very good to me back then, so I thought I'd bring Philip to see her."

A moment later, watching Landon and Philip before the tombstone, Charlotte suddenly felt a bit dazed...

Even Landon remembered Lynn's death anniversary, but Alexander didn't. Forget it, in his eyes, Sabrina was the most important one.

When the three left the cemetery, Charlotte got into Landon's car.

In the car, Charlotte was whispering with Philip, completely unaware that Landon was observing her through the rearview mirror.

Charlotte seemed even stronger than he had imagined.

So he interrupted them: "I heard Sabrina joined the Forbes Group?"

"Seems like it." Charlotte replied casually.

Landon glanced at Charlotte in the rearview mirror: "Want me to talk to Alexander..."

Unexpectedly, Charlotte cut him off very quickly: "No need."

As soon as the words left her mouth, Charlotte realized she seemed a bit rude. Just as she was about to apologize, Landon readily agreed: "Okay."

This left Charlotte at a loss for what to say.

After struggling for a moment, she simply said nothing and continued telling Philip a story.

Listening to Charlotte's animated voice, Landon seemed to think of something, and a faint smile crossed his eyes.

Meanwhile, Sabrina's welcome ceremony had just ended when Alexander received a call from Elara.

"Alexander, come back quickly! Grandma found out you brought Sabrina into the Forbes Group."

Alexander: "Who told Grandma? Charlotte?"

Elara stammered: "No, Mom and I were chatting and Grandma accidentally overheard."

"Oh, Alexander, please come back quickly, or Grandma's going to kill me."

After hanging up, Alexander hastily gave some instructions and was about to leave when Sabrina caught up: "Alexander, I want to go with you."

Alexander was worried Nicole would make things difficult for Sabrina. While he was hesitating, Sabrina added: "Don't worry, I'll prove my abilities to her."

Alexander finally agreed.

As soon as Alexander appeared, Nicole raised her cane and struck at him: "You come here, you little devil! I'm going to smack some sense into you!"
