Chapter 267

Chapter 267

The moment it hit her, Jenna immediately grabbed for the door handle, but Lucas beat her to it—locking her in.

"Lucas! You bastard!" Jenna settled back in her seat, glaring at the man in the driver's seat. "Unlock the door."

Lucas turned around with an infuriating grin and shot her a glance. "Buckle up. We're heading out."

Jenna's patience snapped. She kicked the back of his seat, her face tight with anger. "Bastard!"

Lucas played along perfectly, letting out an exaggerated "Ow!" Then he deliberately added, "Feel better now? If not, go ahead—kick me a few more times."

Jenna huffed and settled down.

Besides, honestly, her chest did feel tight and uncomfortable.

Whatever. She'd just treat him like a chauffeur.

Soon enough, they arrived at the hospital.

The second the car stopped, Jenna bolted out and headed straight for the clinic.

She'd assumed Lucas wouldn't follow her in. But the moment she stepped out of the consultation room, a massive face loomed right in front of hers.

For once, Lucas looked genuinely anxious. "How'd it go? What did the doctor say?"

Jenna rolled her eyes and waved the slip in her hand. "Nothing. Just told me to go get some tests done."

Lucas's eyes widened. "Tests? What kind of tests?"

This time, Jenna didn't bother answering. She shoved him aside. "Move. Stop bothering me."

Watching her stride off without a backward glance, Lucas ground his teeth.

How was she getting more insufferable by the day?

Still, considering she wasn't feeling well, he'd let it slide.

The next second, Lucas took off after her with those long legs of his.

Clutching the freshly printed lab results, Jenna marched back to the consultation room, chin held high.

Lucas stuck to her like glue. Halfway there, he tried sneaking a peek at the results, only to earn himself a massive eye-roll from Jenna.

"What are you looking at? Even I can't read this thing. You think you can?"

Lucas held his tongue. Again.

Finally back at the consultation room, Jenna walked in and started to close the door behind her—only for a shadow to slip inside.

"What are you doing in here?" Jenna shot him an annoyed look.

Lucas didn't even flinch. "Caring about you."

Jenna: "Get out!"

The doctor glanced up, startled by the commotion. "What's the relationship between you two?"

Jenna was about to tell the doctor to kick Lucas out, but he beat her to it. "Doctor, I'm her boyfriend."

The doctor nodded. "That's appropriate, then."

Jenna opened her mouth to correct him, but the doctor was already waving her over. "Let me see those results."

With no choice, Jenna shot the man beside her another glare before stepping forward to hand over the slip.

The doctor studied the lab results, a smile slowly spreading across his face.

He looked up at them both, his expression warm and kind. "Congratulations. You're going to be parents."

Jenna's mind went blank with a deafening buzz. She nearly fainted on the spot.

Thankfully, Lucas's reflexes were quick. He caught her, steadying her with one arm. "Jenna, are you okay?"

Jenna struggled to regain her balance, then yanked his hand away through gritted teeth. "Let go of me!"

After a cautious glance at her expression, Lucas released her—but stayed close.

Jenna let out an irritated huff, then turned back to the doctor. "Doctor, are you sure? I'm really pregnant?"

The doctor chuckled. "Of course it's real. You think I'd joke about something like this?"

"Though I have to say, your reactions were a bit much. It's nothing to panic over—just take it in stride."

The doctor went on to give them some advice about what to watch out for.

Jenna's head was buzzing. She didn't catch a single word.

Lucas, on the other hand, listened intently, even asking the doctor a few follow-up questions.

By the time Jenna snapped back to reality, she realized they were already parked outside her building.

She shot a glare at the man in front of her and shoved the car door open, ready to leave.

But the second her foot touched the ground, the face she least wanted to see appeared right in front of her.

Lucas had been holding it in the entire ride. Now, he couldn't take it anymore. He planted both hands on the car frame, caging Jenna in.

Jenna startled and tried to push him away.

No matter how hard she pushed, Lucas didn't budge.

Flustered and furious, she stomped her foot. "Lucas, what the hell do you want?"

Lucas ran his tongue along the inside of his cheek. "Jenna, you need to take responsibility for me."

Jenna's eyes went wide. "What did you just say?"

Lucas stared at her intently, enunciating every word. "You need to take responsibility for me."

The moment the words left his mouth, Jenna spat back at him. "Lucas, are you out of your mind?!"

"We're both adults. What 'responsibility'?"

Lucas looked utterly aggrieved, his teeth grinding audibly. "Jenna, do you have any idea? I'm usually the one saying that to other people."

"Fine. Tell me—what can't you accept about me? I'll change it! I'll change everything!"

Jenna rubbed her temples. "Just leave me alone. That night was just a drunken mistake."

Lucas looked like he'd been mortally insulted. "Impossible. You definitely like me at least a little bit."

"Otherwise, why wouldn't you have a 'drunken mistake' with some other guy?"

Jenna's hand flew up and slapped him across the face. Then, while he was still stunned, she shoved him hard.

"Get lost!"

With that, Jenna stormed off without looking back.

Behind her, Lucas clutched his cheek, yelling after her stubbornly, "I don't care! You have to take responsibility!"

Jenna stepped into the elevator and let out a sharp breath. "Psycho!"

After the design competition ended, Charlotte and Zenith Enterprises Group's reputations spread like wildfire through River City—and eventually, nationwide.

But alongside that fame came another story: the Forbes Group's youngest-ever Design Director had been caught in a public plagiarism scandal.

The Forbes Group, President's Office.

Alexander's face was dark as he slammed a stack of documents onto the floor. "What the hell have you all been doing?! You can't even keep clients we've had for over a decade!"
