Chapter 173

Chapter 173

Charlotte frowned but didn't slow her pace at all.

Apart from the divorce, she had nothing left to discuss with him!

But just as she and Jenna walked out the door, a slender, strong hand grabbed her wrist.

"There are some things I want to talk to you about alone."

Jenna immediately looked at Charlotte.

Seeing Charlotte nod, she reluctantly walked away. However, she didn't go far, stopping at a corner not too far off.

Once Jenna left, Charlotte yanked her wrist back forcefully. Her deep eyes clearly reflected Alexander's cold, handsome features. "Let's talk then."

At this moment, Charlotte felt extremely calm inside.

Talk if he wanted to talk—there was nothing to be afraid of.

After all, she'd suffered so much before. Now wasn't it perfectly normal to disgust them in return?

Before, she had only wanted a quick divorce, to escape everything from the past and start a new life.

So as long as she could divorce smoothly, even if it meant suffering some grievances or leaving with nothing, she chose to endure it.

But what she never expected was that even after she'd compromised to this extent, they still wouldn't let her go!

Slander, humiliation, online harassment, and even trying to hurt people around her—it was simply too much!

Since that was the case, she simply wouldn't hold back anymore. In fact, she would take back everything they owed her from before!

Across from her, Alexander was quietly studying Charlotte.

In her bright crimson dress, her skin looked even more fair as snow, stunningly beautiful.

But in his memory, Charlotte had never worn such bold colors.

She wore almost year-round those same few dull, plain outfits that made her seem dim and unable to catch his attention at all.

But since she left home, he suddenly discovered she seemed like a different person.

She'd become so vibrant and beautiful, like a glass of colorless, tasteless water that suddenly gained all sorts of colorful sweetness.

Dazzling to behold.

Actually, all along, he'd never truly considered divorce.

After all, Charlotte was a good wife and an even better mother. With her around, everything at home was managed perfectly.

They'd been together for seven years. Although he couldn't develop deeper feelings for her because of what happened with Sabrina back then, the bond from their youth and the little moments from seven years of living together still made him care about her somewhat.

Besides, they had a child together.

He wanted to give their child a complete family.

He also understood why Charlotte kept insisting on divorce—it was all because of Sabrina. He knew it was hard for her to let go of her issues with Sabrina.

But when it came to life and death, he couldn't abandon Sabrina.

So the root of all problems lay with Charlotte alone. As long as she was generous enough, understanding enough, and willing to try accepting Sabrina, then everything would no longer be a problem.

"Charlotte, I know you don't actually want a divorce."

Charlotte froze. This was what Alexander wanted to talk about?

She looked at him in disbelief. "What did you say? I don't want a divorce?"

Alexander smiled confidently. "Isn't that right?"

"You suddenly left home, used Philip to win against Owen in that parent-child competition, deliberately caused trouble at Sabrina's exhibition, and now you're using the Mrs. Forbes name to go around on credit everywhere."

"Isn't all of this just to get my attention?"

Watching Alexander's supremely confident expression, Charlotte almost laughed in anger. "Alexander, didn't I remind you that if your brain is sick, you should see a doctor? What, forgot to take your medicine today?"

Alexander's face darkened. "Charlotte, can't you just talk properly?"

Charlotte smiled disdainfully. "Do you deserve it?"

A flash of restraint crossed Alexander's face. "I know you're angry, but Sabrina and I really have nothing going on."

"What I have with her is just a commitment. You and Owen are my family. I know the difference clearly."

"Also, didn't you feel I owed you before? From now on, the money I should give you, the gifts I should send—I guarantee none of them will be missing."

Charlotte coldly interrupted him. "You think I still care about these things?"

A trace of self-assured understanding crossed Alexander's face. "Don't care? Then why are you using the Mrs. Forbes name to buy things on credit everywhere?"

Charlotte pondered for a moment before slowly speaking. "Because I feel these seven years have been too unfair to me. Even the money I got from you wasn't enough to buy a single luxury item that Sabrina wears."

Alexander's breathing quickened slightly. "But you never told me what you wanted. However, from now on, you can tell me whatever you want."

Charlotte countered, "What about Sabrina? Does she also have to ask you for gifts every time?"

In Charlotte's memory, as long as Sabrina looked at something one more time or complimented it, Alexander and Owen would rush to give it to her.

Even things that should have belonged to Charlotte—if Sabrina liked them, they would give them to her without a second thought, without even asking Charlotte.

Now, watching Alexander's silent response, Charlotte laughed lightly. "Oh right, didn't you say I could tell you whatever I want?"

"Well then, I'm telling you—right now I only want a divorce."

Alexander's pupils contracted slightly. "Charlotte, know when to stop."

Seeing Alexander still pestering her, a flash of impatience crossed Charlotte's eyes. "Alexander, what will it take for you to believe I really want to divorce you?"

Staring at Charlotte's serious expression, Alexander's heart suddenly felt like someone had struck it hard, and his face turned pale on the spot.

He stared at Charlotte unblinkingly, his gaze carrying an intimidating pressure. "Charlotte, are you sure you really want to divorce me?"

Charlotte raised her eyes, enunciating each word: "I am absolutely certain!"

She suddenly smiled mysteriously. "Also, do you know why I've been buying things on credit everywhere under the Mrs. Forbes name these past few days? It's to provoke you, so we can divorce sooner."

"Oh, I almost forgot to tell you. Grant and Daniel just called me, saying their stores just got a new batch of treasures and I must come see them when I have time."

Seeing the blatant provocation and coldness in Charlotte's eyes, Alexander suddenly felt an indescribable feeling rising in his heart—like unease, and also like unwillingness.

But soon, this feeling transformed into anger.

His face turned terribly dark. "Charlotte, my tolerance has limits."

Charlotte smiled indifferently. "Then let's both stop tolerating it. Divorce is the best solution."

Alexander's pupils suddenly contracted as he grabbed Charlotte. "You dare threaten me?"

Perhaps truly angered, Alexander used great force. Charlotte's face paled with pain.

After struggling unsuccessfully a few times, she suddenly lifted her foot and stomped down hard!
