Chapter 120
"Sabrina? Where did you go?" Owen muttered to himself as he searched around.
Meanwhile, Charlotte thought she was hearing things.
How could that be Owen's voice?
He liked Sabrina so much, he must be sticking close to her right now. How could he possibly come over here?
Charlotte laughed at herself inwardly while unconsciously finishing every last bit of the mango cake in her hand.
It was so delicious.
She couldn't even remember how long it had been since she'd had mango cake.
Owen was allergic to mangoes, yet he was particularly fond of their flavor.
Because of this, she had her first argument with Alexander and moved out of the estate.
Even when she occasionally went out to meet Jenna, she didn't dare eat the mango cake Jenna specially ordered for her.
Because she was afraid that after eating it, the scent of mango would cling to her, and it would be bad if Owen smelled it when she got home.
But, just as Landon said, she didn't need to accommodate anyone anymore. If she wanted to eat, she could eat to her heart's content!
Setting down the plate, she even licked her lips, still wanting more.
But then, she noticed Landon leaning lazily against a nearby pillar, watching her with a half-smile. Suddenly, that familiar nervous feeling from when she faced Landon as a child came flooding back.
In her nervousness, she actually hiccupped.
How embarrassing.
She was so mortified her toes were practically digging through the soles of her shoes. After racking her brain, she finally thought of an excuse to leave.
But it was obviously too late, because Landon had already straightened up and was walking toward her step by step.
Having just made a fool of herself, Charlotte didn't dare look up; she just kept her head down low.
When she caught that crisp, clean scent and realized Landon had reached her side, she tried to take a step back, but Landon's voice sounded low and deep beside her ear.
"There's still some time before dinner. If you're bored, you can go check out Mr. Walker's collection in the back. I heard there's even a piece by Ms. Talbot in there. Ah!"
Slightly flustered, Charlotte suddenly looked up and heard a suppressed groan.
Had she hit something?
It turned out Landon's body was leaning slightly forward at that moment, and when Charlotte looked up, her head hit his chin.
"I'm sorry." Charlotte completely panicked.
Watching her wring her fingers helplessly like a child who'd done something wrong, a hint of amusement flickered in Landon's eyes. "I'm fine," he assured her.
Charlotte wished she could disappear right there and then. "Then I'll go check out Mr. Walker's collection first."
Landon nodded. "Alright, I'll watch Philip."
Charlotte nodded too and quickly turned to walk in the direction Landon had indicated.
Behind her, Landon seemed a bit dazed.
It wasn't until Philip's clear voice sounded beside him that he snapped back.
"Dad, does your chin really not hurt?"
Rubbing Philip's head, Landon smiled. "It doesn't hurt."
Turning away, he secretly grimaced. It took a while for the pain to ease.
At the villa's backyard, Sabrina looked around again before carefully dialing a number.
No one answered the first time.
Unwilling to give up, she called a second time, then a third.
Finally, it was answered and a voice came through. "Didn't I tell you not to call unless it's important?"
Sabrina took a deep breath. "I have something important. Very important."
When the call finally came to an end, Sabrina breathed a sigh of relief.
That person had agreed to help her out, so tomorrow's hospital checkup wouldn't expose her.
Only then did she realize she'd unknowingly wandered to the villa's backyard.
Looking at the building ahead with the sign that read "Collection Room," she suddenly became interested.
Because Quentin had just mentioned to her that Maurice had specially built a collection room that housed works by almost all the design masters from River City over the past few decades.
Since she was here, she might as well take a look and learn something.
Having made up her mind, Sabrina walked right in.
She had to admit, Maurice's place was a real treasure trove.
Sabrina's eyes lit up as she looked around.
Suddenly, something caught her attention.
Was this a vintage brooch designed by Lynn?
Drawn to it, Sabrina moved closer and closer. Gradually, her eyes grew hot.
Finally, she looked around and confirmed that she was alone.
So, biting her lip, she quickly reached out and took the brooch from its box.
Holding it up to the light, Sabrina raised the brooch above her head with one hand.
But as she looked up at it, her eyes suddenly reddened.
She would never forget Lynn!
It was Lynn who ruined her future.
When she was still in middle school, Charles saw that she was obsessed with design and had some talent, so out of fatherly love, he swallowed his pride and went back home to beg Lynn to take her as a student.
But unexpectedly, Lynn flatly refused!
She even said harshly that she would never allow her and her mother to set foot in the Spencer Family.
But Lynn didn't know that in the end, the one driven out of the Spencer Family was her beloved biological daughter, Charlotte.
Lynn had always prided herself on her work.
At this thought, Sabrina suddenly pulled back her hand and viciously threw the brooch onto the carpet!
Then she stepped on it!
"Lynn, go to hell! Your work is only fit to be trampled under my feet!"
"Sabrina? What are you doing here?"
Suddenly, Charlotte's voice came from behind.
Sabrina's face twitched slightly.
Perfect timing.
She slowly turned around and gave Charlotte a provocative smile. "If you can come here, why can't I?"
Charlotte glanced at her coolly and said nothing more.
Then she walked right past Sabrina without looking at her.
Today was Maurice's birthday. Charlotte didn't want to make a scene with Sabrina which would spoil Maurice's mood.
She'd just look at Lynn's work and then leave.
With this thought in mind, Charlotte walked to the cabinet that contained Lynn's works.
Why was there only an empty box? Where was the brooch?
Charlotte couldn't believe her eyes.
She rubbed them and looked again.
But the box was still empty, with nothing inside.
Suddenly, as if thinking of something, she spun around sharply.
"Sabrina, where's the brooch my mother designed?"
Sabrina was secretly pleased but put on a look of surprise. "What brooch?"
Charlotte stared straight at Sabrina. "In Mr. Walker's collection, there was a brooch, a work by my mother."
Charlotte spoke slowly, picking up the empty box and holding it out toward Sabrina. "Now the brooch is missing, and only an empty box is left."
Sabrina glanced at the empty box and blinked innocently. "The brooch is missing, so why are you giving me the empty box? Don't tell me you suspect that I took the brooch?"
Charlotte looked at her and quietly stepped forward. "When I came in just now, you were the only one in the room."
Sabrina widened her innocent eyes. "That doesn't prove anything. Can you guarantee no one came in before me?"
Charlotte gave a cold laugh. "Sabrina, this is something my mother left behind. You'd better not play any tricks."
No longer in the mood to look at other collections, Charlotte turned to leave, planning to go back and tell Maurice about this.
But just as she reached the door, Sabrina called out from behind, "Why don't you beg me? Maybe I'll remember where the brooch is?"
Charlotte stopped abruptly and slowly turned around. "Sabrina, what game are you playing?"
Sabrina casually twirled her hair around her finger while saying, "Thirteen years ago, when you went to find Dad and begged him to go back and see your mother one last time, you said you'd do anything for your mother. Too bad Dad never went back in the end."
Charlotte's eyes gradually turned cold. "Sabrina, what exactly do you mean?"
Sabrina suddenly laughed. "I'm just a bit curious about what lengths you'd actually go to for your mother. Or let me put it another way—as long as you're willing to beg me, I'll tell you where the brooch is."
Charlotte narrowed her eyes at Sabrina. "Sabrina, you're dreaming. At worst, I'll go find Mr. Walker and have him call the police."
With that, she turned to leave.
But Sabrina suddenly lifted her heel, looking at her with ill intent. "Really? Why don't you first take a look at what this is?"
