Chapter 119
Sabrina wanted to get away from everyone so she could take care of some business.
But then Alexander came to find her.
He had something to discuss with someone in detail, so he wanted Sabrina to take Owen with her.
Sabrina had to take Owen for a walk in the garden because she had no other choice.
However, with everything she has on her mind, she couldn't cheer up at all.
Owen kept looking around, as if he was looking for something.
Suddenly his eyes lit up.
"Sabrina, I want to go play with the other kids. Can I?"
Sabrina was only thinking about how to get rid of Owen. She could hardly wait to agree after hearing this, but she did tell him to come back here to find her later.
Owen answered without thinking, then ran away and was gone in a flash.
Sabrina didn't bother with him. She just quietly clutched her phone, as if struggling with something.
Outside corridor.
The host had made some snacks and fruits for the guests to eat before the banquet started so they wouldn't be hungry.
Charlotte was worried that Philip would eat too much and not want dinner, so she carefully chose two cookies that were easy to digest and added some apple slices.
"Philip, come here. Eat a little something first, but only these, okay?"
Although Philip was tempted by all the dazzling food on the long table, he still nodded obediently: "Charlotte, don't worry. I won't eat anything I shouldn't."
"You're such a good boy." Charlotte smiled and told Philip he did a good job.
However, she was so focused on taking care of Philip that she didn't notice at all that a pair of bright eyes were staring at them from not far away.
'Mom, why are you smiling at Philip? Don't you know he always bullies me and steals all my friends at kindergarten?'
Owen thought huffily, but his gaze never left Charlotte for a second.
Ever since that day when he heard the kids all fighting to have Charlotte spend time with them, Owen had felt uncomfortable.
So when he heard Philip say he was going to the party with Charlotte, a thought suddenly came to him.
He would take pictures of Charlotte and Philip together and show them to the kids at kindergarten.
That way they'd know Charlotte wasn't actually a good mom, and they'd stop envying Philip and gather around Owen again.
Because he remembered very clearly that Charlotte always told him he couldn't eat this or that, strictly made him study and exercise, and made him go to bed on time!
So she must treat Philip the same way.
But after secretly observing for a while, Owen couldn't find a good scene to photograph.
Because Charlotte was just too nice to Philip.
Not only did she get him food, but when she saw crumbs on his mouth, she even carefully wiped them off for him.
And she smiled at Philip so gently, even speaking in a soft voice.
But just a few days ago at kindergarten, Charlotte had looked at him so coldly, like she was looking at a complete stranger.
Thinking about this, Owen's vision suddenly blurred a bit.
He finally remembered that before Charlotte left home, she used to treat him this way too.
She would smile at him, gently coax him to eat and sleep.
Looking up again to see Philip contentedly eating the little cookie Charlotte handed him, Owen suddenly felt hungry too, wanting to eat the little treats Charlotte used to make for him by hand.
Those treats weren't as sweet as store-bought ones, but they tasted good when you chewed them, with a nice flavor.
Just then, he saw Philip make a heart shape with his hands toward Charlotte, and even pulled out something small from his pocket to give her.
After Charlotte received the little doll, she looked very happy and even gave Philip a light kiss.
Watching this scene, Owen couldn't help but snort.
It's just a little doll! He could give Charlotte more things, more expensive things!
But the bright smile on Charlotte's face still stung Owen's heart a little.
He ground his small teeth: "Looks like Grandma was right. Mom is just a housewife who hasn't seen much of the world. Otherwise, how could she be won over by a little doll?"
"If I gave Mom the things I was going to give Sabrina, wouldn't she be really happy?"
Muttering this far, Owen's voice suddenly paused.
He suddenly remembered that in the past six months, he seemed to have never given Charlotte anything, not even a cheap little trinket like that doll.
He had even given Sabrina the birthday gift he was supposed to give Mom.
But Sabrina had seen too much of the world. When she received his gifts, she only smiled slightly and never looked as happy as Charlotte did.
So what's the point of smiling so happily? He didn't care at all!
But somehow, he felt a bit sour inside.
Just then, Landon walked over.
Worried about being discovered, Owen quickly hid himself better.
Fortunately, Landon seemed to only focus on Charlotte and Philip, not even glancing in his direction.
So he continued squatting there, relieved.
Then Landon took the small plate from Charlotte's hand and even took her handbag.
Why was he helping Charlotte carry things?
Alexander never helped Charlotte carry things.
Last year when they rarely went shopping together at the mall, after buying things, Alexander walked ahead empty-handed while Charlotte followed behind carrying all the bags.
While thinking about this, Owen saw Landon hand Charlotte a piece of mango cake.
He had once heard Jenna say that Charlotte's favorite was mango-flavored cake. Actually, he really liked it too.
But for as long as he could remember, he'd never seen Charlotte eat mangoes or mango cake.
Later, when he was just over two years old, Cynthia secretly fed him a small piece of mango cake, and he got sick—swollen and itchy all over, almost unable to breathe.
At the hospital, it was the first time he heard Charlotte speak very loudly to Alexander, and then their family moved to a new house.
And from then on, nothing related to mangoes ever appeared in their home again.
Just then, Charlotte's voice came over: "Philip can't eat mango, so I won't eat it either."
So Philip can't eat mango either?
So Charlotte was joining Philip in not eating mango cake?
Then before, when Charlotte didn't eat mango cake, was it also because Owen couldn't eat it?
Before Owen could figure it out, Landon's voice sounded again, "If you like it, eat it. There's no need to always sacrifice yourself to accommodate others."
Philip also urged Charlotte from the side: "Charlotte, just eat it. I'm not tempted."
"Also, I don't eat a single bite of things you tell me not to eat, even at kindergarten!"
Watching Philip show off, Owen felt inexplicably annoyed and couldn't help muttering quietly: "Fake!"
Maybe his voice was a bit loud, because Charlotte, who had just taken two bites of cake, suddenly looked in this direction.
Owen's heart jumped, and he quickly bent down and quietly retreated.
'Philip is like those two-faced guys on TV. The more I look, the angrier I get. I'm not watching anymore. I might as well go back and find Sabrina.' he thought.
But when Owen returned to the original spot, he found that Sabrina was gone.
