Chapter 101
How much they had looked down on Charlotte before, that's how ashamed they felt now.
Finally, Calvin couldn't bear to see Sabrina upset and broke the silence first: "Sabrina, don't overthink it. Charlotte just got lucky."
He then turned to Owen, his eyes full of blame, "The judges just said that the only reason Sabrina's group fell behind Charlotte's by 0.1 points was because Owen looked too nervous and stiff."
"If Owen had performed as well as Philip, Sabrina definitely wouldn't have lost."
Owen's mind was still in a daze, filled with images of Charlotte's performance on stage.
Could that dazzling person really be his mother?
When did she become so amazing? Even Sabrina couldn't match her.
And Philip too. Though Owen didn't want to admit it, Philip really did perform well—better than him.
The more Owen thought about it, the heavier his heart felt. "I'm sorry, it's all my fault. I dragged Sabrina down."
Calvin nodded vigorously with satisfaction: "Even Owen admits it himself. So the one who lost was Owen, not Sabrina."
"If it were a one-on-one competition, Sabrina definitely wouldn't have lost to Charlotte."
"That's nonsense!" Cynthia finally couldn't take it anymore. "You lost and now you want to push all the blame onto Owen?"
When Cynthia got angry, Calvin's confidence immediately weakened.
He'd been so focused on defending Sabrina that he'd almost forgotten about Cynthia, so he quickly tried to fix things: "Mrs. Forbes, that's not what I meant."
Cynthia, in a bad mood, gave him a cold look: "Then what did you mean!"
Calvin said carefully: "What I meant was, the bet was between Sabrina and Charlotte, just the two of them, so the scores should only count their individual performances, not include Owen and Philip's."
Seeing Cynthia still looking displeased, he added. "Mrs. Forbes, do you really want to see Charlotte's smug face after winning?"
But just as he finished speaking, another voice rang out.
"Sabrina, can you give me back the watch now?"
Charlotte had arrived.
Everyone's faces immediately darkened even more.
Sabrina instinctively clutched her handbag tighter. The watch was inside.
She had deliberately worn it out today—partly out of vanity, partly to provoke Charlotte. She never expected Charlotte would use the competition to take it back.
If she'd known, she never would have agreed to bet the watch. After all, Lynn's only watch creation was obviously precious.
Calvin saw her expression and started defending her again: "Charlotte, don't get too cocky. The one who lost to you wasn't Sabrina, but Owen."
Charlotte gave him a cold look: "You're saying the one who lost to me wasn't Sabrina, but Owen?"
Calvin looked completely righteous. "That's right! The judges said Sabrina could have gotten a perfect score, but Owen was too nervous and stiff, so they deducted 0.2 points."
"So if we're only counting individual performance, Sabrina should get a perfect score, which is 0.1 points higher than your 99.9, so she should be the winner!"
Hearing this, Charlotte completely understood what was going on: "So, you're trying to back out of the bet?"
Charlotte's expression was calm, as if she'd expected this all along.
Alexander, standing nearby, couldn't help but feel his face flush slightly with embarrassment.
For the first time, he realized Calvin could be so unreasonable and stubborn.
However, Calvin continued arguing: "What do you mean backing out? This is the truth! If you don't believe it, we can get the judges over here to settle this."
Charlotte didn't bother with him and looked directly at Sabrina and the other Forbes family members: "What about you? Do you all think the same?"
Elara's eyes flickered as she avoided Charlotte's gaze.
Cynthia kept a straight face and turned her head away.
Owen opened his mouth and finally squeezed out quietly: "I lost."
Sabrina kept her head down, saying nothing, but showed no sign of denying Calvin's claims.
Charlotte's gaze swept over each of them before stopping on Alexander. She withdrew her gaze and simply skipped over him.
She knew he would definitely side with Sabrina.
Seeing this, Calvin became even more arrogant: "Charlotte, see? Everyone thinks Sabrina should be the winner!"
"How shameless!"
At that moment, Jenna walked over with Landon, Philip, and a group of people.
She glared at Calvin, her eyes full of contempt: "Good thing everyone was there when the bet was made. Now let's see what you have to say!"
Landon also looked at Alexander with a half-smile: "Alexander, your judgment of people really isn't great."
The people following behind also cast contemptuous looks at Sabrina and the others.
Earlier they had looked down on Charlotte only because of her poor education.
But now that Sabrina, Alexander, and the others were going back on their word and losing their integrity, that was a much more serious problem.
After all, no one wanted to deal with untrustworthy people or companies.
And judging by Calvin's unreasonable behavior, there was a reason the Wallace Family had been targeted by investors recently.
For the first time, Alexander experienced what it meant to feel uncomfortable and embarrassed.
He licked his lips, about to quietly suggest Charlotte handle this matter privately later, when Charlotte spoke first.
"Miss Spencer, if you're still not satisfied and think Owen dragged you down, we can compete again one-on-one."
Charlotte's smile was full of mockery: "I have plenty of time. However many times you want to compete, I can keep you company."
Sabrina clenched her fists tightly until her knuckles turned white.
She got the message.
What Charlotte meant was that no matter how many times they competed, she could never beat her.
She wasn't convinced!
But she also knew clearly that from a professional standpoint, no matter how many times they competed, she couldn't beat Charlotte.
Sabrina was furious! So furious she could barely hide her twisted expression.
For the first time, her eyes fixed on Charlotte revealed deep resentment and unwillingness.
She had actually lost to Charlotte!
Then what did her twenty-plus years of pride and hard work amount to?
