A SHOCKING REVELATION.
“What do you mean scratching off the surface?” I repeated, my voice firm and steady.
“I mean the Leila you think you know, is not who she seems to be . Leila is two faced Alexander!” Tammy roared back.
“I should have seen this coming,” I scoffed. “You are so bitter that you will do anything to tarnish Leila and hurt her, right?”
“I am not lying Alexander, Leila is not who she seems to be.” Tammy said, her voice filled with determination.
I was taken aback, one minute she was being nice and normal, now she is trying to ruin Leila’s reputation. I was beginning to doubt her true motives and her pregnancy talks.
“You are lying,” I growled at her. “You are faking this pregnancy to get money? My love? Sympathy? Time? Or to kick Leila out of my life?”
“No, it is not like that,” Tammy replied, her expression suddenly turning to a pleading one. “I am not faking it , I promise. I would not do that to you. I am only trying to tell you the truth Alexander. I know that you will not believe me cause I have done a lot of wrong things to you in the past. I had even teamed up with Ben Maloney , and abducted Leila, I forced you into signing those divorce papers, but I really did not mean any harm. I love you Alexander, I love you more than I love my life. If asked to choose between you or my life, I would tell you how much I love you...with my last breath. I really care about you and I can not sit by and watch Leila play you, like this! Please Alexander, believe me.”
I scoffed. “And I am supposed to believe you?” I continued, stepping closer to Tammy. “You expect me to just trust you after everything that has happened? Do not mistake my emotions for weakness Tammy.”
Tammy flinched at my words, her face pale with shock. “Please, you have to believe me,” she whispered, her voice shaking. “I would never lie about something like this.”
I shook my head, not willing to give her the joy of seeing me doubt Leila. “Save it, I should have seen this from a mile ago, the Tammy Ford, was being nice.” I scoffed.
“I am done with you,” I said. “You are nothing but trouble and the last thing I need right now in my life is more troubles.”
“Please ...” Tammy cried.
My anger was boiling over. “What? So you an keep lying to me? No thanks. I am done hearing whatever your lies your brain can think of. I am through with you and your lies.”
“Fine,” Tammy said, her voice shaky. “If that is how you want it, then I will go. But I will never forget how you treated me and my unborn child.”
She turned to leave, but as she reached the door, she suddenly stumbled forward landing on the floor.
I froze, watching her for a moment before rushing to her side. “What is wrong?” I asked, panic rising in my chest. “Are you Alright?”
Tammy did not answer, her eyes fluttering close was her head lolled to the side. I lifted her into my arms, carrying her to the couch and laying her down gently.
“Stay with me, stay with me Tammy,” I urged, taking her hand and placing kisses on it. “I will get you help, please hang in there.”
I reached for my phone, dialing emergency services and requesting an ambulance.
As I waited, my mind raced with questions. What was wrong with Tammy? Why was she passing out like this?
The ambulance arrived quickly, and the paramedics rushed inside to assess the situation. I watched as they checked her vitals, took her blood pressure and murmured to each other in hushed tones.
One of them looked at me, her expression grave. “Sir we need to get her to the hospital right away. She is in distress and we need to find out what is causing it.”
I nodded, my heart pounding in my chest. “Okay,” I replied, my voice laced with concern. “What is wrong with her?”
The paramedic did not answer right away, her attention focused on Tammy. Finally after a few minutes, she turned to face me. “We can not say for sure yet , sir,” she said, her voice calm and measured. “She needs to be checked and evaluated at the hospital. But her symptoms could indicate a serious illness.”
I felt like the ground was shifting beneath my feet. “What kind of illness?” I asked, my voice trembling.
The paramedic met my gaze, her expression grave. “We suspect she may have leukemia, but we will not know for sure until we run some tests.” She said.
I felt a knot in my stomach, and my stomach churned. “Leukemia?”I repeated, in a low voice that almost came out as a whisper. “But...but..that’s..how?”
The paramedic nodded, her expression sympathetic. “I know sir, it is a serious diagnosis. But we will do everything we can to help her.”
“Let’s get her to the hospital,” I mumbled.
The ambulance ride to the hospital was the slowest ride I have ever had. I say beside Tammy’s bedside, my hand gripping hers and I watched as the doctor’s and nurses worked hard to stabilize her.
When I was finally allowed to see her, I could barely recognize the woman I used to love, this woman was was not the same woman I had argued with an hour ago. Tammy’s skin was now pale and her eyes showed she was going through pain. But she managed a weak smile.
I felt like a monster, all along she had been going through pain and I did not care about it. I even accused her of faking her pregnancy.
“I am sorry Tammy, I did not mean for it to end up like this...” I mumbled, my gaze fixed on her face.
“It’s okay Alexander... I should have told your earlier.”
“What’s that?”
