Chapter 25

“Leila's point of view"

I was pulled out of the darkness. My eyelids fluttered and I opened my eyes.

I managed to look around. Where's Alex? I opened my mouth to speak but my throat was parched. It hurts.

Spotting Alex by the wardrobe slipping his clothes on, I forced my throat open.

“Wa…water” I said. My voice was hoarse.

He stiffened before turning around slowly. His eyes met mine and I could see the surprise in there.

“Water" I requested again, my voice wasn't doing better and I felt embarrassed blushing lightly.

He grabbed a bottle of water on the nightstand, uncapping it before settling next to me.

He helped me up, before giving the water.

I gulped it down, wetting my throat. There, I felt much better.

“Okay?" He asked me and I nodded.

I stared up at him, fast enough to see the relief swimming in his blue eyes.

Dropping the bottle back on the stand, he drew me to his chest in a hug kissing my hair repeatedly.

I savored the smell of him, my senses filled.

“I'm glad you're back, I'm glad you're here” he whispered, rubbing my back.

I tightened my arms around him. I'd have lost him, one or both of us would have been dead if we'd eaten from that food. To

“How are you feeling?" He asked, still holding me to himself. I was immensely grateful for that.

I wanted to keep him to myself.

" Much better" I said, there was a light growl in my voice much better from earlier.

“God" he whispered, burying his nose in my hair, he took a deep whiff and I flushed.

Don't I smell bad?

“Should I take you to the hospital?" He asked and I shook my head.

" I'm good Alex, I mean it" I whispered, my lips grazing his neck. He smelled so good.

“I'm happy you are" he muttered before pulling back to stare at my face. I blushed lightly.

Staring into his deep eyes, I felt the emotion trying to overwhelm me.

If I had not obeyed my instincts, I'd have died like that woman. If I had just watched Alex eat the food instead, then he'd have been dead.

Oh God, my feelings for him were scaring the life out of me.

I framed his face with my hands, he leaned in touching his forehead to mine.

“I'm glad, I get to see you" I muttered, my lips brushing his in a feathery kiss.

In that moment, I realised I was in love with Alex.

I'd fallen for him, it was way different from what I'd felt for Ben. Maybe this was true love then.

Without thinking, I opened my mouth and the words slipped out.

“God, I love you Alex"

We both froze, his eyes bored into mine. I was sure I wasn't breathing, scared my breathing was too loud.

We said nothing, there was nothing to say.

I'd momentarily forgotten that this thing we were doing wasn't real. I'd stupidly gone ahead and proclaim my love to him.

I was so damn stupid. I pulled away from him shifting backwards.

I raised my knees to my chest, probably trying to shield myself from his eyes.

His throat bobbed but he said nothing to me, not even a word.

I looked away, clearing my throat.

“That's a…”

" Say it again” he muttered and I turned my eyes to him. His eyes looked conflicted but soft, urging me to go on.

Staring down at my hands, I said it again. Even if it left my lips as a whisper, I was so sure of what I felt.

He lunged at me, kissing so deeply that all the air left my lungs in a woosh.

Pulling back, he patted my hair.

“Okay" he whispered. Disappointment slammed into me.

Okay? That was all he had to say? I'd just told him, I love him and all he gives was okay.

I nodded looking away. Trying to mask the disappointment on my face.

I'd been so wrong to think there was something between the both of us. An attraction. I'd been so damn wrong and all I felt now was stupidity.

Plain stupidity. If I had kept my feelings to myself then…

“Who would have tried to poison you?" Alex muttered, his hold around me loosened and he eventually let go.

Stupid.

“I.. maybe Ben?" I asked, trying to sound normal —okay. But I was far from the both of them.

“Ben. He was my first thought too" he said turning his eyes to me. I shrugged, faking a smile at him.

I climbed off the bed, his eyes followed me.

“I want to use the bathroom" I muttered, walking away sure of his eyes on me. I told him, I love him. He'd said a mere okay and then switched the topic, like what I'd said doesn't matter.

That hurts. It did.

I washed my hands staring at the mirror after locking the bathroom door. I just needed time away from Alex to savor his rejection and will myself to get used to it as there was nothing much I could do.

Looking into the mirror, I tried finding reasons of why Ben would want to have me poisoned but wasn't coming up with any.

What if, there was someone else, aside from Ben.

I closed my eyes leaning against the counter. I needed a clue.

Allison.

It dropped it my head, but I shook it off. She hadn't been there in my wedding and wasn't capable of Killing anyone.

I scoffed, exactly what I'd tell myself until they killed me.

My big enemy now was Ben but if Allison decides to interfere, then of course, I'd show her my wrath.

As of now, I just need to confirm if she was the one that tried poisoning me. But how would I get that information, when the maid herself was dead?

This was going to be harder than I thought it would.
