Chapter 14

“Leila's point of view”

“What?!" I asked sitting up on the bed. My phone to my ear.

My eyes caught Alex walking out of the bathroom with a towel tied around his waist. His chiseled chest was glistening, I blinked looking away.

“She's dead, Matahye is dead" mum said from the other line, her voice broke.

" What? She was okay just a few days ago, she was in my wedding" I muttered. The word 'wedding’ drew Alex's attention.

His brows furrowed as he hung the towel he'd used for his hair around his neck.

We'd taken a trip for our honeymoon to make it look real. Since we arrived two days ago, we spent time exploring the city of Casablanca.

It was a weird decision Alex took. He'd said in Casablanca we'd be able to make our plans.

“Mum… calm down please” I muttered standing from the bed. My eyes met with Alex's and he raised a brow inquiring.

I looked away, I would discuss with him later on, right now, I need to hear from mum.

“She'd called me and her voice sounded —urgent”

“Where had she been?” I asked. I could hear her sniffing in the background.

“She was on her way to see me, she said she needed to tell me something about Ben”

Ben. The name echoed in my head and I froze, staring at Alex with wide eyes.

He got impatient, taking my phone away from me and putting it on speaker before placing it on the bed.

He stood behind me while I stood motionless.

“Leila, Leila? Are you there?" Mum asked and Alex nudged me lightly.

I cleared my throat.

“Yeah, mum, I'm here" I muttered. Did… did Ben kill Aunt Matahye? My knees trembled lightly.

Ben…

Alex wrapped an arm around my mid section holding me against himself, I was grateful for the support.

“I have no idea what she found about Ben, that she thinks I need to know” my mum continued and Alex's arm around me tightened.

“Mum? Was she stabbed?" I managed to ask.

" No, it looked like she fell. There was no one to help her and before we got a call, it was already too late” Mum said and my breath hitched.

Ben killed her. Just the same way he'd killed me. He killed her!

“I would call you later, the police is here" mum said before ending the call.

Minutes after the call ended, we still stood at that same spot, silent.

In as much as, the news was devastating, I was ravishing the feel of Alex's warm chest against my back.

“Someone died?" He asked after a while and I nodded, not bothering to turn around and face him.

“My Aunt, Ben killed her" I said and he left me. My body mourned the lost of his warmth.

He instead stood in front of me, brows raised.

“How do you know that?” He asked and I lowered my eyes, staring at the floor.

Would I look insane if I tell him, I was once killed too, by Ben?

Of course, no one would believe such story.

“I know," I muttered looking up at him and into his blue eyes.

“She had something to say to my mum about Ben and few hours later, she's dead? He has a hand in her death” I said before walking away from him and pushing my hands into my hair.

She didn't have to be a victim of his cruelty. She'd still be alive, he ended her.

I was so damn sure he was the one, he'd make it look like an accident and no one would be able to track him.

Hell, he'd have done same to me too, but luckily, I was giving a second chance at life.

“You can't make such conclusion. I know you seek revenge on him, but this is too — abrasive” Alex said and I stared at him over my shoulders.

" Abrasive? I'm being abrasive?" I asked turning around.

Was he kidding me right now?

He raised his hands in a silent surrender motion, my eyes trailed down his body and I looked away with a sigh.

I can't want him. This, was fake. I needed to keep that in mind, even if he was my husband on papers, he wasn't mine.

“We need to think this through" he muttered but I said nothing.

There was nothing he could say to assure me, I knew it deep down and my instincts were right. Ben killed Aunt Matahye.

“There's nothing to think about, he's walking about scotfree, perpetrating evil” I said staring at Alex.

Can't he see?

He walked to his bag with his back to me, I watched him.

He had a strong body, beautifully built and there was a bounce in his steps and that ass —oh God.

I looked out of the window when he started wearing his briefs. He didn't even give a warning.

Rubbing my arms, I stared down at the city of Casablanca, with it's lights giving the city a beautiful look at night.

I was ready for bed before Mum's call came in, now I can't find the will to sleep anymore.

“I understand your concerns, Leila" Alex said and I turned around surprised to see him behind me, staring at the city.

His eyes met mine and I didn't bother looking away, I turned around so I was pressed against the window but looking at him.

“He killed my Aunt" I whispered, he nodded reaching for my hand and bringing it to his lips.

Goosebumps rose on my skin, his lips lingered on my skin and when he finally pulled away, I felt cold.

“If you want, we can return" he muttered, still holding my hand stroking the inside with his thumb.

I nodded, I couldn't think straight with what he was doing. He was —seducing me.

Swallowing nothing, I tried to look unaffected with what he was doing.

“Return? Uh, that'd make my parents suspicious" I said biting my inner cheek. He smiled lightly, pulling me to him in a hug.

I took a deep breath, basking in his masculine scent. My head resting against his chest, his arms around me.

“You lost your Aunt, it'd only be deemed appropriate if you're there, by your mum” he said and I hummed.

It was a nice idea.

" In that way, we'd be able to monitor Ben —properly" he added.

I peered up at him, giving a little smile. He was right, so right.

I tiptoed, placing a light kiss on his lips before walking out of his hold.

“That's a good idea, tomorrow we're leaving” I said looking at him from over my shoulders.

He looked lost for a moment, before nodding.

Tomorrow.
