Chapter 90

Chapter 90

Hours earlier
“We need to talk; there is something important I need to tell you,” he states, sincerity shining in his eyes.
Could I really trust him?
“I know it seems like I betrayed you, but I didn't. That wasn't me at all. You would know if it was.” he adds, looking deep into my eyes.
He is not wrong; I would know if he was in the room before he came near me.
“Who was that?” I ask instead, refusing to acknowledge the fact that I think he is right.
“That's not what I want to talk about first,” he says, stepping forward.
My breath hitches as I remember the last time we spoke, the last words he said to me.
My eyes shut down as I try to rein in the hurt I feel.
“I am so sorry for not being considerate of if you wanted to tag along and for not telling you about it in the first place.
But I remember Elpida, and I am nothing like the old me. I would go on a killing spree in the morning all because my other self wanted to wake me.
I wouldn’t take innocent lives all because they inconvenience me at that moment.
I am not like that.” I growl, roughly wiping the tears streaming down my cheeks with the back of my palm.
“I know, and I am so sorry for saying that to the baby.
I didn’t mean it. I was just hurt and angry because most of the time you make important decisions without telling me.
And it hurts a lot. I just wish you would tell me what’s going on with you.
I can always feel you struggling with yourself, feel the emotions that you feel.
I feel it all, and I can never say why you feel like that, not because I didn’t care, but because you refuse to let me know.
It really hurts.” He says, moving towards the bed more.
I feel really terrible; I didn't know he was feeling this way.
So I tell him everything that has been happening with me from the beginning to the end.
I tell him all about Hugo, but because I don’t want people eavesdropping, I say everything into the mind link.
“I just feel so confused; I don’t know how to handle this situation. Neither do I know who he is.” I finish.
“Don't worry; we will find out together.” He says back into the link.
“So who disguised as you to try and kill me?” I speak again into our link.
“Don’t freak out, but your dad, the king, called me some days back and asked me to kill you.” He drops the bomb.
My eyes widen as my jaw drops open. I move towards him, feeling like the link needed us to be close so I can hear him clearly because I clearly didn’t hear well just now.
“What!!!” I blurt out, momentarily forgetting that we are supposed to be talking in the link. ”
“Yes,” he confirms in the link.
“Your dad called me aside and told me that he had a way to break the curse.
At first I thought he was trying to help; he said I should bring you to him and that he would use your blood to break the curse.
Then I got suspicious when he said you must be unconscious, so he gave me a drop of liquid to put in your mouth, and that by the time you wake, your curse would be lifted,” he explains in the link.
I scoff out loud.
“How did he not see that you would pick that up?” I snort into the link, earning a mock glare from Bion.
“I was desperate, very desperate. I didn’t want to have to kill you, Melanie. I love you,” he says out loud.
“I love you too, baby, but if it comes to that, please you have to do it. You have to kill me.” I whisper the last part.
“No!” He barks, his voice firm and rigid.
“Bio-”
“Drop it. I. Am. Not. Killing. You,” he snaps, drawing it out dangerously.
“So what do we do about my dad?” I question, changing the topic.
His body visibly relax before tensing again.
“I started watching him. One of our friends works for him; that’s how he knows our ins and outs.
He, according to my creeping, I heard them saying something about sacrificing under the full moon brings the power.
And guess when the next full moon is?” he asks, his lips splitting into a devilish smile.
“Next week?”
He shakes his head before speaking, “Today, which is very convenient for them considering that you were stabbed with poison.”
“So, what do we do?” I ask, turning to look at him.
“We can’t tell our friends since there is another spy, so we do one thing.
We set a trap.” He smirks, eyes glinting with mischief.

Back to the present
My blade lodges into his throat, sticking firmly.
I press further as thick red liquid spurts out of his neck.
Eyes wide, he staggers back, his fingers lacing around the dagger buried in his throat.
Indeed, Bion was right; my own blood father wanted to kill me.
A snarl leaves my throat as I sit up; Bion pushes the cloak of his body as he stands upright.
The king pulls out the dagger, clutching his neck like a wounded tiger.
His lips curve into a small smile as he stares at me wide-eyed.
My own father wants to kill me all because of what? Power?
Unbelievable.
After a moment, his hand falls to his side, showing the blooded but already healed neck.
I hadn’t planned on killing him, at least not yet.
“So, what do you think you can do, huh?” He chuckles, his eyes going dark.
“Were you the one who put that bounty on me?” I had been thinking about it since I found out he wants me dead.
“Yes, I was. But I knew they couldn't get the job done.” He says, shrugging like he just said there wasn’t going to be pasta for breakfast.
“So why did you do it?” I ask, my body shaking.
My hands tremble as tears sting my eyes.
He is my father, for crying out loud; he is the one who is supposed to have my back.
I knew he didn’t like Zara, but I never did anything wrong. For all I know, he was the one who brought the curse upon me in the first place.
A stubborn tear fell down my eyes, causing me to furiously wipe it away with the back of my palm.
“You are the reason I am cursed; you did this to me. You!!!” I scream, my emotion spiralling everywhere.
My hands tremble as my brain rakes to keep the ache I feel at bay.
I shouldn't be angry; I am cursed. Yet it burns that the person who birthed me could want to kill me.
“THAT’S MY PROBLEM!!! YOU THINK IT’S A CURSE, BUT IT’S NOT. IT’S A BLESSING. I AM NOT DOING IT TO BREAK THE STUPID SO-CALLED CURSE.
I WANT THOSE POWERS, AND ONCE I DRINK YOUR BLOOD, I WILL BE UNSTOPPABLE.” He yells, eyes widening the size of a saucepan.
I step back in shock; he wanted to kill me so he could have the powers instead.
Bion steps forward, a growl emitting from his throat. His eyes glow red, his wolf close to the surface.
I see a shadow move in my rear view, heading towards the king, “YOU ARE NOT TOUCHING MY DAUGHTER!!!” A familiar voice screams out.
The queen, my mother, comes into view, plunging a sharp sword into the king.
He stumbles forward, eyes wide as he glances down to see blood dropping down.
“Get away from my lover,” someone says; in a swift motion, I see a sharp movement.
I lunge forward, trying to stop it myself, but it’s too late; the person already plunges the sword into my mother.
At that moment her cloak falls off her face, making my steps falter.
“Callist
o?” I shriek.
Her lover. My dad.
I look at her with my jaw almost falling off.
Her lips curve into a smirk as her eyes glint with mischief.
Oh my God!!!!!
