Chapter 89
A hint of sadness flickered across Lila's face.
Ten minutes later, the car stopped at Island Mansion, and they both got out and headed home.
Lila walked into the living room with her head down, then silently headed upstairs, her steps quick as she subconsciously tried to get away from Alexander as fast as possible.
But just as she climbed the last step and was about to enter her room, Alexander's voice came from behind her.
"Stop!"
Though she really wanted to ignore Alexander, reason reminded her that she couldn't.
Lila eventually stopped in her tracks.
She didn't turn around, only tilted her head slightly, glancing at Alexander who was about to reach the top of the stairs, and asked coolly, "What is it?"
Alexander came upstairs and stood directly in front of her before speaking unhurriedly, "How much money do you want?"
Lila frowned, not understanding why he would suddenly ask such a question.
He seemed to read her expression, "What? Flattered?"
Lila chuckled lightly, then countered his previous statement, "You'll give me however much I ask for?"
Alexander was a full head taller than her, and when they stood face to face, he looked down at her.
When he spoke, Alexander's words carried a sense of superiority, "You are Mrs. Sinclair, that's undeniable. Even though I don't like you and was forced to marry you, you're still the woman under my name. Money is just a number to me. Since you like it so much, giving you some isn't out of the question."
Lila looked up to meet his gaze, smiled slightly, and actually named a figure, "Then I want two hundred thousand."
Alexander followed up, "Why that amount?"
Lila actually gave him a reason, "You gave Julie a hundred thousand. I want double. Is that not okay?"
"Fine, I'll give it to you tomorrow."
"Thank you, darling."
With that, she smiled, "If there's nothing else, I'm going to bed?"
"Suit yourself."
"Okay."
Lila lifted her foot and brushed past him.
Entering her room, the moment she closed the door, the smile on her face disappeared.
Whether it was a hundred thousand or two hundred thousand—
She didn't actually like money that much.
At least for now, she had everything she needed, and she could afford the things she wanted. Money wasn't nearly as important to her as Alexander imagined.
She named a figure only because Alexander always said she loved money. She couldn't just let him say that for nothing, so she might as well confirm it. Taking the two hundred thousand—if it could actually be useful someday, that wouldn't be a bad thing.
At ten fifty in the evening, Lila came out of the bathroom after showering, her hair dried, wearing pajamas.
She was about to get into bed when someone knocked on the door.
Lila walked over suspiciously and opened it.
Alexander's tall figure came into view.
At this moment, he had taken off his suit jacket and loosened his tie. He was now wearing only a white shirt with two buttons undone at the collar, revealing his wheat-colored skin, looking healthy and full of masculine appeal.
Lila thought Alexander was really good-looking.
Not only was he tall and well-built, but his face was perfect from every angle.
She didn't allow herself to get lost in Alexander's good looks, forcibly pulling her reason back, staring at him and asking with feigned coldness, "It's so late, what do you want?"
"To settle accounts."
Lila immediately became guarded, "Settle what accounts? What did I do wrong now?"
Alexander snorted coldly and took a step closer to her.
She instinctively stepped back, "Just stand there and talk, I can hear you."
Lila was wearing pajamas now, with nothing underneath, and already felt insecure.
With him taking a step forward, she instantly felt even more unsafe.
