Chapter 40
After saying that, Lila pushed the plate of food toward Alexander. "Want to try my pan-fried fish?"
Alexander glanced at her, looking reluctant, but tried the fish anyway.
"How does it taste?" Lila asked him.
The moment Alexander looked up, his expression suddenly turned cold, and his tone was completely different from before. "Why do you talk so much? Don't you know you're not supposed to talk while eating?"
Lila felt confused.
Did Alexander's moods have to swing so wildly?
He was fine just a moment ago.
Lila angrily lowered her head to eat and stopped paying attention to him.
After dinner, Lila cleared the table.
When she returned to the living room, she saw Alexander still sitting on the sofa, not reading a magazine, not looking at his phone, just sitting there.
Although she was a bit curious about why he was just sitting there instead of going to sleep, remembering how he'd suddenly turned on her during dinner made Lila reject the idea of talking to him first.
She pretended not to see him and walked straight toward the stairs, ready to go back to her room to sleep.
Entering her room meant her time with Alexander today was completely over.
It also meant that of her 365-day marriage, only 363 days remained. Thinking about it this way, the future suddenly seemed bright.
However, just as she stepped onto the first stair, Alexander's voice came from behind her. "Where are you planning to practice driving with John tomorrow?"
There were only the two of them in the house.
Lila naturally knew he was asking her. She turned to look at the sofa. "Haven't decided yet. Tomorrow I'll go wherever Mr. Lucas says. After all, he's the one teaching me, so I'll listen to him."
Hearing her say she would listen to John made Alexander feel particularly annoyed. "Who is he to you that you have to listen to him?"
"I'm the student. I can't expect him to listen to me, can I?"
"Grandma is an elder. When an elder asks a younger person to do something, it's a favor to them. Wherever you tell him to teach you, that's where he should go. Even just for Grandma's sake, John should obediently listen."
Lila was speechless.
Well, aren't you high and mighty?
But she couldn't do that.
Lila didn't like communicating with people from such a superior position. For some things, when you're clearly asking someone for a favor, how could you have the nerve to demand too much?
Wherever John was willing to go, she would just go along with it.
Lila didn't plan to continue discussing this with Alexander. "I'm going upstairs to rest. Do you need anything else?"
Alexander asked unhappily, "Didn't you hear what I just said?"
"I heard you, but where exactly to practice driving, I'll talk about it with Mr. Lucas tomorrow."
Alexander responded with a sound.
She thought the conversation was over and was about to turn and go upstairs.
But Alexander, thinking who knows what, suddenly asked again, "What do you think of John?"
Lila answered honestly. "He's great. Very handsome, I'm sure lots of girls like him. Plus, Mr. Lucas has a very outgoing personality and is really good at compliments. Today, he made Grandma so happy with his compliments. People who are sweet-talkers are liked everywhere they go."
Hearing her praise him in every sentence, Alexander's expression grew darker and darker, and his tone became heavier. "A shallow, frivolous person. Is that really so good in your eyes?"
"Isn't he your friend?" Lila found it strange and asked suspiciously, "Is it right for you to talk badly about your friend behind his back?"
Alexander's expression was bland as he confidently dropped four words, "Objective assessment."
Lila seemed to suddenly understand something and smiled. "I think Mr. Lucas is a pretty good person. At least he's kind to people, funny, and humorous. At least he's better than those people who always act like the whole world owes them money."
