Chapter 25
Alexander frowned and pulled his phone away from his ear to check his recent call log, only to realize that his call to Charlie hadn't gone through.
That Lila. She had him so angry he was all mixed up.
Alexander knew he had wrongly blamed Charlie, so his tone softened a bit. "Go to the parking lot and bring the car to the entrance of the Sinclair Group."
Charlie acknowledged the order. "Yes, Mr. Sinclair, I'll go right away."
He responded with his usual air of superiority and hung up.
Alexander put his phone in his suit pants pocket, his eyes casually glancing at Lila beside him.
Lila had stopped crying, but her eyes were still red and she didn't look too well.
He'd only said one thing to her. Was it really worth being this upset over?
On the way to the restaurant, Alexander drove while Lila and Gaia sat in the back seat.
Alexander didn't really know what he was thinking, but he glanced at Lila through the rearview mirror and saw her head down, playing with her phone, seemingly texting someone.
Alexander started a conversation on his own. "Why aren't you two talking?"
Gaia pretended to be surprised. "What? Alexander, did I hear that right? You like listening to people talk? Aren't you the one who loves peace and quiet the most? When did you change your personality?"
"I just thought you might be bored."
"Come on, if you really cared about me, I would've been holding my great-grandson by now. Would I have had to wait until now to get a granddaughter-in-law?"
Alexander couldn't respond to that.
Alexander looked at Lila again.
She was still looking at her phone, endlessly.
"Is this really the granddaughter-in-law you wanted. Someone too busy on her phone to pay attention to you? Well, choosing Miss Grace was definitely the right choice!"
"Stop trying to stir up trouble. Just looking at Lila fills my heart with joy."
As she spoke, Gaia contentedly turned her gaze to Lila.
Lila naturally heard their conversation and explained to Gaia somewhat embarrassedly. "Grandma, my classmate texted asking if I'm okay. I was just replying to him."
"It's fine, you do your thing."
"Next time you practice driving, don't look for that Ethan anymore."
Alexander suddenly spoke up.
Lila glanced at him. "If not him, then who? You? Would you be willing to teach me to drive?"
"Don't have unrealistic dreams."
Lila was speechless.
She really didn't know what to do with Alexander, but she didn't dare speak loudly, so she just muttered. "Then just leave me alone."
"Have Grandma find someone to teach you. She has a wide network and knows a lot."
"Grandma?"
Lila couldn't help but look at Gaia.
Gaia smiled. "I do have someone to recommend, and his driving skills are unmatched in Oceancrest City."
A hint of suspicion appeared in Alexander's eyes. "Who?"
Gaia answered while looking at Lila. "John Lucas, Mrs. Lucas's grandson. He's an F1 race car driver with top-notch skills and rich experience. Teaching you would be more than easy for him."
"But won't he be very busy?"
"No, he has plenty of free time."
Lila nodded as if she understood.
In the driver's seat up front, Alexander immediately frowned when he heard John's name.
Who was John?
A friend he'd grown up with, and also Oceancrest City's most famous playboy. He lived for entertainment, hitting on women everywhere. His eyes were like Cupid's arrows, whoever he aimed at was in trouble.
If someone as innocent as Lila spent time with him, wouldn't that be like a lamb walking into a tiger's den?
Of all people, why John?
Alexander's face showed clear displeasure. "Why look for John? Lila doesn't even know him."
"Lila knows you. Are you willing to teach her?"
"My time isn't that cheap."
Gaia rolled her eyes at him. "Then shut up. I'll decide who to find."
