Chapter 16
Lila bit her lower lip, standing helplessly outside the car window. She looked just like a stray cat without an owner—pitiful.
Alexander calmly looked away, his thin lips parting slightly. "Aren't you tired of standing there?"
"No... not tired."
"You're not tired, but I'm tired of looking at you. Get in the car."
With that, Alexander prepared to raise the window.
Lila quickly stopped it with her hand, leaning against the window. "But boss, I crashed the car, what... what should I do?"
"Didn't you already call Charlie to handle it? Get in and wait."
"Okay."
After responding, Lila turned to the other driver. "My boss has already asked someone to contact the insurance company. Sir, please wait here for a moment."
"Fine, fine." The driver was clearly annoyed.
As the rear window rolled up, the other driver couldn't help but complain. "What kind of person is this? Crashes into someone and gets others to handle it. If you didn't know better, you'd think he was some big CEO or something."
Lila fell silent.
He actually is a very big CEO. You just don't know him.
Lila let out a breath. Since she wasn't sure how long they'd have to wait, she opened the driver's door and got in to wait like Alexander.
After getting in, Lila sneaked a glance at Alexander, then opened her phone to search.
How much does a Rolls-Royce cost?
How much does it cost to repair a Rolls-Royce?
How much does Rolls-Royce insurance cost per year?
Every number in the answers made her eyes widen.
Alexander's car insurance alone cost nearly fifty thousand dollars a year!
And Lila had just crashed his car.
What should she do?!
Lila felt extremely anxious.
Alexander began his judgment. "First day on the job as a driver and you've already crashed my car. Miss Grace, you're quite something."
Lila apologized sincerely. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to."
"You think saying 'I didn't mean to' clears you of responsibility?" Alexander's tone was contemptuous, full of disdain.
Lila quickly explained. "That's not what I meant."
Alexander asked again. "Do you know how much it costs to repair my car? Even with insurance, do you know how much my premium will increase next year? You're a driver making five thousand dollars a month. Can you afford it?"
"I'm really sorry." After apologizing again, Lila glanced at Alexander in the back seat, who had kept his eyes closed while mocking her, and honestly confessed. "Actually... actually, even though I have a license, I've never driven a car since getting it..."
Hearing this, Alexander's eyes snapped open. He looked at her in disbelief, his voice cold as ice. "What did you say?"
"Before... I was going to tell you before, but you didn't give me a chance. I'm really sorry. It's my fault for crashing your car. I feel terrible about it. If it doesn't work out, just fire me. I'll tell Gaia myself that I'm not suited for this driver job. I definitely won't let her blame you. And also, you said five thousand dollars a month—that's too much. I don't deserve it."
His expression changed several times. In the end, not knowing what to say, he only let out an extremely contemptuous, sarcastic laugh from his throat.
Lila knew—Alexander was angry!
Lila was pretty annoyed with herself too. Why did she pretend she could do it?
Even if she was afraid of Alexander and worried about him, she shouldn't have forced herself to do it.
Could you just drive a car like that? Especially a luxury car!
Luckily, today it was just a rear-end collision. If she had hit someone, wouldn't she be regretting it enough to jump off a building?
Suddenly there was a knocking sound on the window.
Outside, the other driver had run out of patience and knocked on the driver's door.
Lila rolled down the window. "What's wrong?"
The driver bent down to talk to her, but his eyes accidentally met those cold, fierce eyes in the back seat. He immediately felt intimidated and smiled awkwardly at Lila. "Nothing, my hand cramped up."
